Released in April of 2006 at the San Francisco film festival, this 94-minute documentary by Eric Steels paints a very real, and haunting portrait of the planet's most famous suspension bridge. Specifically dealing with it's mysteriously romantic appeal to suicide jumpers, who often take their final breaths atop the brightly colored Golden Gate Bridge overlooking the city by the bay. More people commit suicide at this beautiful landmark than at any other site in the world, leaping 245 feet to the icy water below. Although never graphic, the voyeuristic images of actual people, desperate individuals falling to their untimely death is extremely uncomfortable to watch, to say the very least. But to that end, suicide, and by extension, depression and mental illness are very real, and serious issues that can affect anyone: to ignore this afflictions merely because they're uncomfortable would be cowardly and irresponsible. And it's for this reason Steel's film unfortunately falters: as he never truly provides an answer or reason to any of the questions raised during his captivating movie. Having filmed almost 10,000 hours of footage, this controversial R-rated documentary features 23 separate, real-life suicides, and shares the account of one guy lucky enough to have survived: who realized mid-free-fall he still wanted to live. That individual, Kevin Hines, is thankfully interviewed for the picture, and shares some truly remarkable insight for such a young, troubled person. Although gripping, the interviews (mostly from the families of the deceased) compromise 100% of all spoken sound in the picture, and are filmed in drab, uninteresting locations with boring camera angles. A striking contrast to the majestic cinematography Steel uses to film the bridge itself... towering and daunting from nearly any angle. Whether or not you've ever struggled with your own demons, this is a mesmerizing picture that adeptly forces a good deal of personal reflection. For better or worse though, this unique internal discovery within us all in the only narration the picture offers: as there's no narrator, on-screen text, numbers, or facts to go along with emotional family interviews. Surprisingly well-paced and edited, even the melodic piano score from Alex Heffes sets the mood perfectly. I visited this film's namesake once on November 23, 2008, when I was in town for YouTube Live: and when doing follow-up research for this picture, I was extremely discouraged to learn someone had fallen to their death that very same afternoon. The picture offers no lessons, morals, or grand conclusions: but somehow remains hopeful and optimistic: through brief glimpses and portraits of the troubled individuals who ended their life below the beautiful landmark. The Bridge is a 2006 documentary film by Eric Steel that consists of the results of one year's filming of the Golden Gate Bridge in 2004, which captured a number of suicides, and additional filming of family and friends of some of the identified people who had thrown themselves from the bridge. The film was inspired by an article titled "Jumpers", written by Tad Friend, that appeared in The New Yorker magazine in 2003.
Steel interviewed relatives and friends of the suicide victims, not informing them that he had footage of their loved ones' deaths. He claimed that "All the family members now, at this point, have seen the film, [and are] glad that they had participated in it."
The project was kept a secret in order to avoid a situation where someone would "get it into his or her head to go to the bridge and immortalize him or herself on film". During the filming, one person jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge every 15 days on average.
The documentary caused significant controversy when bridge officials charged Steel with misleading them about his intentions. He secured a permit to film the bridge for months and captured 23 of 24 known suicides that took place during the filming phase of the project. In his permit application to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, a government agency that does not have any jurisdiction over the bridge but that does manage nearby park areas, Steel said he intended "to capture the powerful, spectacular intersection of monument and nature that takes place every day at the Golden Gate Bridge".

The Bridge
Demián Bichir stars in the role of "Marco Ruiz," a homicide investigator for the state of Chihuahua, Mexico living in Ciudad Juárez. A family man, Marco is one of the last good men in a corrupt and apathetic police force that is out-gunned by the powerful drug cartels. He's sharp, charming, and observant and painfully aware that his city is in a state of chaos. When a body is dumped on the bridge that spans the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez border, Ruiz is forced to work with his American counterpart, "Detective Sonya North."

Released in April of 2006 at the San Francisco film festival, this 94-minute documentary by Eric Steels paints a very real, and haunting portrait of the planet's most famous suspension bridge. Specifically dealing with it's mysteriously romantic appeal to suicide jumpers, who often take their final breaths atop the brightly colored Golden Gate Bridge overlooking the city by the bay. More people commit suicide at this beautiful landmark than at any other site in the world, leaping 245 feet to the icy water below. Although never graphic, the voyeuristic images of actual people, desperate individuals falling to their untimely death is extremely uncomfortable to watch, to say the very least. But to that end, suicide, and by extension, depression and mental illness are very real, and serious issues that can affect anyone: to ignore this afflictions merely because they're uncomfortable would be cowardly and irresponsible. And it's for this reason Steel's film unfortunately falters: as he never truly provides an answer or reason to any of the questions raised during his captivating movie. Having filmed almost 10,000 hours of footage, this controversial R-rated documentary features 23 separate, real-life suicides, and shares the account of one guy lucky enough to have survived: who realized mid-free-fall he still wanted to live. That individual, Kevin Hines, is thankfully interviewed for the picture, and shares some truly remarkable insight for such a young, troubled person. Although gripping, the interviews (mostly from the families of the deceased) compromise 100% of all spoken sound in the picture, and are filmed in drab, uninteresting locations with boring camera angles. A striking contrast to the majestic cinematography Steel uses to film the bridge itself... towering and daunting from nearly any angle. Whether or not you've ever struggled with your own demons, this is a mesmerizing picture that adeptly forces a good deal of personal reflection. For better or worse though, this unique internal discovery within us all in the only narration the picture offers: as there's no narrator, on-screen text, numbers, or facts to go along with emotional family interviews. Surprisingly well-paced and edited, even the melodic piano score from Alex Heffes sets the mood perfectly. I visited this film's namesake once on November 23, 2008, when I was in town for YouTube Live: and when doing follow-up research for this picture, I was extremely discouraged to learn someone had fallen to their death that very same afternoon. The picture offers no lessons, morals, or grand conclusions: but somehow remains hopeful and optimistic: through brief glimpses and portraits of the troubled individuals who ended their life below the beautiful landmark. "The Bridge", "Powerful and unsettling, but necessary."

FILM DESCRIPTION:
The explosive X-Men motion picture trilogy officially draws to a close with this release that finds Rush Hour director Brett Ratner stepping in for Bryan Singer to tell the tale of a newly discovered mutant "cure," and the polarizing effect it has on mutant/man relations. With the pressure on mutants to give up their powers and pledge alliance with the human race reaching a critical turning point, Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) urges tolerance and understanding as his nemesis Magneto (Ian McKellen) gathers a powerful resistance in preparation for the ultimate war against humankind. Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, and James Marsden return to reprise the roles they played in the previous two X-Men films, with Kelsey Grammer and Vinnie Jones joining the cast as Beast and Juggernaut respectively.

A dark strange tale set in the victorian era, which tells the story of the events leading up to the building of the transporter bridge. One posh outsider falls saleep on the eve of its birthday and the ghosts of that time re inhabit the town. It is a story of power, drugs, sex, money and politics, as the ghosts of that time re inhabbit the town on the eve of the anniversary and events are replayed. This controversial film was commissioned by Discover Middlesbrough and Middlesbrough Council and had its Premiere on Sept 19th 2011 in Middlesbrough at the Constantine Cinema. A centenary concert, organised by Middlesbrough Erimus Rotary Club, celebrating 100 years continual service by the Transporter Bridge. The Artists were The Teesside Fettlers, Flossie Malavialle and Ironopolis - with Graeme Miles. All monies made from the event went to local charities. Written by Adrian Beadnell, a long time member of the Teesside Fettlers, and recorded at The University of Teesside in 2010 with a view to both celebrating the centenary of the superb Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge in 2011 and raising a little cash for local charities.
Each singer takes a verse of the song, Bob Skingle, Stewart McFarlane, Pete Betts and Vin Garbutt, and each verse reflects key aspects of the life of a tradesman working on the river, from apprenticeship to retirement.

I shot this time lapse video from the balcony of our cabin on the Anthem Of The Seas cruise ship as she sailed out of Bayonne, New Jersey, and out to sea. Because it's a time-lapse, there is no audio track. It was fun to sail under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, and to get a look at Brooklyn, at the start of our 12-day Caribbean cruise. This time-lapse video was created with a Canon EOS 80D digital SLR camera. The built-in time lapse function is a new feature that Canon added to their newest DSLR. -

In the region of the Ivory Coast there are still ancient jungles, such as the Tai jungle, and leafy forests which are home to different ethnic branches of the Mande group. The most characteristic of these are the Dan, who are related to the Guere.
They are real institutions, which order, legislate and codify the social life of the different ethnic groups that live in this region in the west of the Ivory Coast.
Each one belongs to a different family. Some are very old and only appear on special occasions. There are masks that only come out every five years, ten years, or even fifty years.
They are the representation of the protective spirits revealed in dreams. Their importance can be seen from the way in which they are decorated, and the cortege of the initiated that accompanies them, to lead them and take care of them.
Before coming out, they must perform complex ceremonies, at which they sacrifice animals in offering. The people both respect and fear them. From them they gain strength and spiritual peace, but they avoid any accidental physical contact. If the mask does not give permission, no one, apart from the initiated, may touch them.
