Syamsudin Noor Airport (IATA: BDJ, ICAO: WAOO) is an airport serving Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is located 10km south-west of Banjarbaru and 25km south-east of Banjarmasin, the largest city in Kalimantan. The airport has two distinctive apron. One in front of the terminal capable of hosting 4 medium sized planes and one on the terminal's left capable of serving 4 Boeing 767s. Recently, upon completion of expansion in 2004, the airport has dealt with mark up allegations. The larger tarmac was discontinued until Angkasa Pura has paid the airports' debt to the government. Historically, Boeing 767 was the first wide body aircraft to land in this airport in 2004. In 2011 Syamsudin Noor Airport handled 3.013.191 passengers.
During the hajj season, the airport serves pilgrims from the region for a direct flight to Jeddah with a short stop over at Batam. A hajj terminal was built in order to coordinate pilgrims situated across the airport.
The Banjar or Banjarese (Urang Banjar in Banjarese language; اورڠ بنجر in Jawi script) are a coastal, native ethnic group that settled in Tanah Laut and Banjarmasin in the south and in Hulu Sungai in the north of South Kalimantan, Indonesia, the second largest city on the island of Borneo. Several centuries ago, some of them had travelled to many places in the Malay archipelago. They set up pockets of settlement there, in Perak (mostly in Parit Buntar and Teluk Intan region), Selangor around (Sabak Bernam and Sungai Besar), in Johor (Batu Pahat), in Medan as well as other places. The Banjarese people are made up of the native Dayaks, other Malays from Sumatra, and Javanese from Java.
The Proto-Malay people migrated to Borneo in 2500 BC. They were the ancestors of the Dayak people (Ot Danum). In 2500 BC, the Deutero Malay migrated to Borneo. The Malay people from Sumatra brought their culture to Borneo in 400 AD. The fusion of the cultures saw the birth of the Benjar Hulu language. Later, in 520 AD, the Malays formed the Buddhist Kingdom of Tanjungpuri in the present-day region of Tanjung, Tabalong.

Passenger ships and ferries to and from Java also carry their operation here.

The city is laced with flood-prone waterways, and many houses are built on rafts or stilts over the water. Many of such waterways are also used for travel, using relatively small rowboats (only major rivers are accessible by larger speedboats, tugboats, longboats, and barges).
