This is just one of them. There is no correct, better or worse way. King crab is tremendously meaty, juicy and packed full of sweet goodness. This is without doubt one of the most popular and decadent dishes on the menu, at this restaurant. There are no need for any shell crackers, just a really sharp knife. Say "goodbye" to messy fingers and a pile of unwanted shell. This particular method of deshelling makes it much easier to scoop out the crab, resulting in less time for cracking and more time for eating! Once boiled, the king crab is simply salted with sea salt and grilled. The grilling gives the crab a lovely BBQ smokey aroma and warms the crab, but still retaining all of the meaty juicy goodness. The lemon juice really compliments the sweet and saltiness of the crabmeat. The cucumber and miso beans give the dish some added texture and also acts as a palate refresher. A crab swarm at an ecological hotspot: patchiness and population density from AUV observations at a coastal, tropical seamount. Jesús Pineda et al (2016), PeerJ http://dx.doi.org/10.7717/peerj.1770 A research cruise to Hannibal Bank, a seamount and an ecological hotspot in the coastal eastern tropical Pacific Ocean off Panama, explored the zonation, biodiversity, and the ecological processes that contribute to the seamount’s elevated biomass. Here we describe the spatial structure of a benthic anomuran red crab population, using submarine video and autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) photographs. High density aggregations and a swarm of red crabs were associated with a dense turbid layer 4–10 m above the bottom. The high density aggregations were constrained to 355–385 m water depth over the Northwest flank of the seamount, although the crabs also occurred at lower densities in shallower waters (∼280 m) and in another location of the seamount. The crab aggregations occurred in hypoxic water, with oxygen levels of 0.04 ml/l. Barcoding of Hannibal red crabs, and pelagic red crabs sampled in a mass stranding event in 2015 at a beach in San Diego, California, USA, revealed that the Panamanian and the Californian crabs are likely the same species, Pleuroncodes planipes, and these findings represent an extension of the southern endrange of this species. Measurements along a 1.6 km transect revealed three high density aggregations, with the highest density up to 78 crabs/m2, and that the crabs were patchily distributed. Crab density peaked in the middle of the patch, a density structure similar to that of swarming insects.

The Christmas Island red crab, Gecarcoidea natalis, is a species of land crab that is endemic to Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands in the Indian Ocean.Although restricted to a relatively small area, it has been estimated that 43.7 million adult red crabs lived on Christmas Island alone,but the accidental introduction of the yellow crazy ant is believed to have killed about 10--15 million of these in recent years. Christmas Island red crabs eat mostly fallen leaves and flowers, but will occasionally eat other animals, including other red crabs (see cannibalism) if the opportunity arises.

Humboldt Dungeness Crab (Cooked in 14" Deep Camp Oven) Ingredients: 4 live or fresh dungeness crab 1/2 cup rock salt water Directions: Fill dutch oven with water & add rock salt. (If confined to cooking indoors, add 1 small jar of pickling spice - It will sweeten the meat and keep your kitchen free of fowl odor afterwards) Bring to a boil & submerge crab. Increase heat until water begins to boil again. Reduce heat & cook 15-17 minutes, uncovered or loosely covered. Remove crab from boiling water and rinse in cold water in separate container. Clean crab, crack meat & ENJOY!!! Humboldt Dungeness Crab Ciopinno (For 14" dutch oven) 4 or 5 crab ½ cup chopped parsley 2 stalks celery chopped 1 cup chopped swiss chard 8 cloves garlic chopped 2 medium onions diced 1 chopped small hot red chili or cayenne pepper (Optional) 2 -- 28 oz. canned crushed tomatoes 1 -- 6 oz. canned tomato paste 1 -- 16 oz. canned tomato sauce ½ cup burgundy wine (Optional, otherwise substitute with water) Saute onions and chopped garlic in oil. Add celery, chard and parsley and sauté until tender. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste and wine or water. Salt and pepper to taste. Add crab, making sure crab is submerged in ciopinno sauce, if not add more wine or water. Simmer at least 45 minutes with occasional gentle stirring to prevent sticking.
