Paula Elizabeth Yates (24 April 1959 – 17 September 2000) was a Welsh television presenter and writer, best known for her work on two television programmes, The Tube and The Big Breakfast.
Born in Colwyn Bay, Wales, Yates was brought up in a show business family. Her mother was Elaine Smith, a former showgirl, actress and writer of erotic novels, who used the stage name Heller Toren. Until late in her life, Yates believed her biological father to be Jess Yates, who hosted the ITV religious programme Stars on Sunday. Jess Yates and Elaine Smith were married from 1958 to 1975. Jess Yates was sixteen years older than his wife, and their marriage was unconventional.
In an unsettled childhood, Paula attended school at Rowen Primary School, Penrhos College, Ysgol Aberconwy. The Yates family ran the Deganwy Castle Hotel for a time, before moving to a large house in Rowen, Conwy. After the break-up of her parents' marriage in 1975, Paula lived mostly with her mother, including periods in Malta and Mallorca where she was a pupil at Bellver International College, before returning to Britain.
Michael Kelland John Hutchence (22 January 1960 – 22 November 1997) was an Australian musician and actor. He was a founding member, lead singer and lyricist of rock band INXS from 1977 until his death in 1997. He was a member of short-lived pop rock group Max Q and recorded solo material which was released posthumously. He acted in feature films, including Dogs in Space (1986), Frankenstein Unbound (1990) and Limp (1997). According to rock music historian, Ian McFarlane, "Hutchence was the archetypal rock showman. He exuded an overtly sexual, macho cool with his flowing locks, and lithe and exuberant stage movements". Hutchence won the 'Best International Artist' at the 1991 BRIT Awards with INXS winning the related group award.
His private life was often reported in the Australian and international press, with a string of love affairs with prominent actresses, models and singers. Hutchence's relationship with UK television presenter Paula Yates began while she was married to musician and Live Aid organiser Bob Geldof. They divorced in 1996. During July of the same year, Hutchence and Yates had a daughter, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily.
Robert Frederick Zenon "Bob" Geldof, KBE (born 5 October 1951) is an Irish singer, songwriter, author, occasional actor, and political activist. He rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Irish rock band The Boomtown Rats in the late 1970s and early 1980s alongside the punk rock movement. The band had hits with his compositions "Rat Trap" and "I Don't Like Mondays". He co-wrote "Do They Know It's Christmas?", one of the best-selling singles of all time, and starred in Pink Floyd's 1982 film Pink Floyd – The Wall as "Pink".
Geldof is widely recognised for his activism, especially anti-poverty efforts concerning Africa. In 1984 he and Midge Ure founded the charity supergroup Band Aid to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. They went on to organise the charity super-concert Live Aid the following year and the Live 8 concerts in 2005. Geldof currently serves as an adviser to the ONE Campaign, founded by fellow Irishman Bono. A single father, Geldof has also been outspoken for the fathers' rights movement.

The Big Breakfast is a British light entertainment television show shown on Channel 4 and S4C each weekday morning from 28 September 1992 until 29 March 2002 during which period 2,482 shows were produced. The Big Breakfast was produced by Planet 24, the production company co-owned by former Boomtown Rats singer and Live Aid organiser Bob Geldof.
The programme was distinctive for broadcasting live from a former lockkeepers' cottages commonly referred to as "The Big Breakfast House", or more simply, "The House", located on Fish Island, in Bow in east London.
The show was a mix of news, weather, interviews, audience phone-ins and general features, with a light tone which was in competition with the more serious GMTV and even more serious BBC Breakfast programmes.
The Big Breakfast was launched at the end of September 1992 to replace The Channel Four Daily, which was Channel 4's unsuccessful first dip into the breakfast television market between 1989 and 1992. The Daily, launched at huge expense, had possessed an analytical style, focusing largely on current affairs, news bulletins and cerebral quiz shows; however, this format had failed to earn enough viewing figures, and consequently Channel 4 opted to change direction and work towards a lighter style concentrating mainly on entertainment and humour.
Actors: Robert Cooper (producer), Ian Hart (actor), Paul Rhys (actor), John Gleeson (miscellaneous crew), John Gleeson (miscellaneous crew), Antonia Campbell-Hughes (actress), Domhnall Gleeson (actor), Michael Buerk (actor), Michael Swan (miscellaneous crew), Owen Roe (actor), Conor Mullen (actor), Ingrid Craigie (actress), Tony Cranstoun (editor), Chris Roufs (miscellaneous crew), Mark Huberman (actor),
Plot: In October 1984, rock musician Bob Geldof is appalled by the misery of starving Ethiopians as seen on television and persuades his pop musician friends to record the million-selling charity single 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'. Bob goes to Ethiopia and, horrified at the scale of the famine, plans a global rock concert to be staged simultaneously in England and America the next summer. He brings in hard-headed rock promoter Harvey Goldsmith who provides a realistic anchor to Bob's idealistic wish-list of performers. Preparations are fraught with arguments, and Bob is especially disappointed not to secure Bruce Springsteen, in anticipation of whose services he postponed the event. After addressing his old school, where he was less than academically bright but hopes to inspire the students, and with five days before the big event, Bob gets involved with the complicated matter of financial logistics and organizing international broadcasts but gets Prince Charles and Princess Diana to attend simply by asking them. Finally the day of the concerts arrives and, as Paul McCartney sings 'Let it Be', Harvey and Bob know that they have triumphed. The show over, the two men sit alone to reflect on matters.

You'll know Bob Geldof as the rockstar behind LIVE AID and, perhaps, as one third of that tragic and very public love triangle involving him, his wife Paula Yates, and INXS frontman Michael Hutchence.

This was reshown in the revamped The Best of The Tube introduced by Paula Yates and Jools Holland. INXS performed Listen Like Thieves on The Tube and afterwards Michael was interviewed by Paula. She's wearing the worst of the 80s fashion. Please remember that Paula is Tiger's mum, you might not like her, but don't dis her.
very cute + funny interview. I always liked Paula, and I really like her interviewing Brett. I thought others would like to see it. I find it rather disheartening to read comments from people saying they like Brett but then go and say something horrible about Paula.

This the first ever edition of Channel 4's 'The Big Breakfast' presented by Chris Evans and Gaby Roslin. Reading the news is Peter Smith. Paula Yates's first 'On the Bed' interview is with Joanna Lumley. Broadcast on Monday 28 September 1992. The first half-hour exists elsewhere on YouTube but this is the full show. However I've had to make a couple of edits for copyright reasons: I've deleted the 'Dennis' cartoon and due to a problem on an earlier upload of this programme I've muted the opening theme tune. I hope this doesn't spoil your enjoyment too much.

This video summarizes World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day (W-BAD) 2016 – the inaugural year in review. Music: We would like to thank The Little River Band for expressing their support via e-mails for this global initiative. W-BAD aims to raise awareness about these drugs that impact so gravely on the music / entertainment industry; having been involved in the deaths of Prince, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Brittany Murphy, Amy Winehouse, Elvis Presley, Paula Yates and many more… (and of course millions of innocent people and their families worldwide). Despite The Little River Band’s expression of support, and Warner Music’s offer to discount the original quote, W-BAD works completely on a volunteer basis with absolutely no funding, and together with the organizer’s dire circumstances,...

starquant They flogged his music to death in Australia, in fact they still do. Over exposed to the max. I'm interested in the person but can't stand the music. It's been played to death, over and over.. It's like Chinese water torture. INXS don't have rock anthems as such, they were a five minute wonder with quirky pop tunes and like the lead singer of Nirvana, the fascination lies in the early death of the lead singer. Eileen D It's sad AF that that arrogant prick Geldof adopted his daughter. He'd do anything for spite and publicity. I'm unimpressed with his biological family that they didn't seek custody. Betty Mermaid Yes so sad, Peaches Geldof died of an overdose about 2 years ago. Just like her mother Paula. She had a young baby. Paula was brought up to believe that a Rev.Jes...
We are the boys who can turn on the heat
we are the boys and you're under our feet
We've got nothing but the clothes that we wear
We've got that attitude - And we don't care
[chorus:]
Hey! we are the boys
And we make the noise
We call the shots
'Cos hey! we are the boys
We are the boys of another class
We drink the beer while you hold the glass
We take what we can and what we can use
We are the boys and we've got nothing to loose
[chorus]
We are the boys, we like bending the rules
we are the boys and you are the fools
You don't have to pose to mean what you feel
We are the boys and we mean it for real
