Pedra da Gavea, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: World's scariest spot to get your photo taken

There's more to Brazil than beaches, bikini bodies and booty - and these Instagram shots prove it.

About 844 metres above Rio de Janeiro is Pedra da Gavea – one of the highest coastal mountains in the world and the location of one of the world's scariest spots to take a photo.

Hundreds of super-fit and fearless people have braved the climb through the Tijuca Forest to the top of Pedra da Gavea to take adrenaline-pumping shots on the side of the mountain.

It takes about three hours each way to hike to Pedra da Gavea. The journey includes hiking through forest and some rock climbing.

But as we're not all daredevils, we can live vicariously through these amazing Instagram shots because to get that shot, it is as scary as it looks (and those who have done it have confirmed it).

It even puts Sydney's own Wedding Cake Rock to shame, though unlike that spot, thrill-seeking tourists don't face fines for getting their photos taken on the edge of Pedra da Gavea.
