[dt.] Die Stadt Salzburg liegt beiderseits der Salzach, flankiert von unbebauten Bergen..
Heute genießt die Stadt das Flair der Mozartstadt, seines berühmtesten Bürgers, der hier geboren wurde und einen guten Teils seines Lebens verbracht hat.
Den besten Rundblick über die Stadt Salzburg und Festung Hohensalzburg hat man vom Mönchsberg aus. Berühmt ist die älteste Einkaufstrasse der Stadt, die Getreidegasse. In dieser schon durch die vielen Zunftzeichen mittelalterlich wirkenden Gasse befindet sich Mozarts Geburtshaus.
Am Rupertitag sind alle Plätze rund um den Dom und die Residenz mit Buden und Fahrgeschäften übersät. Nur das mächtige Geläut der Glocken des Doms vermag das Treiben zu übertönen. Vor der Fassade des Doms, wo die Pferdekutschen warten, wird jedes Jahr der „Jedermann" aufgeführt. Die Residenz neben dem Dom, einstiger Wohnkomplex für die Fürsterzbischöfe, kann besichtigt werden.
Eng an den Berg geschmiegt liegen das Stift St. Peter und sein sehenswerter Friedhof, auf dem viele Honoratioren Salzburgs ihre letzte Ruhe fanden. In den Fels sind Katakomben gehauen, die vermutlich aus dem 3. Jahrhundert stammen.
Auf dem Rückweg passieren wir die Felsenreitschule und die Festspielhäuser, die früher als Ställe dienten. Dazu gehörte auch die Pferdeschwemme. Die Schauwand stammt von Fischer von Erlach, die Skulptur mit dem Pferdebändiger von Bernhard Michael Mandl und die Fresken von Franz Anton Ebner. Den Abschluss des Rundgangs bildet das Schloss Mirabell, auf der anderen Seite der Salzach. Salzburg gehört zum Weltkulturerbe der UNESCO.

Today the city enjoys the atmosphere of the Mozart city, its most famous citizen who was born and raised here.
One has the best panorama over the city of Salzburg and Hohensalzburg Castle from the Moenchsberg. The Getreidegasse - also known as Grain Lane -- is the famous shopping street in the historic center. In the Getreidegasse you see a lot of medieval guild signs. The house No 9 was the birthplace of the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
On the day of Saint Rupert you find stalls and fairground rides on all places around the Salzburg Cathedral and the Residence Palace. Only the powerful peal of the cathedral bells is able to drown the hustle and bustle. The "Jedermann" is performed every year before the facade of the Salzburg Cathedral, where the horse-drawn carriages are waiting for new customers. Hugo von Hofmannsthal adapted the 15th century English morality play "Everyman" as "Jedermann" in 1912.
The Residence Palace next to the Salzburg Cathedral was the former Prince-Archbishop's residence and can be visited.
Nestled to the mountain is the St. Peter's Abbey with the worth seeing cemetery where dignitaries of Salzburg found their final resting place. The Catacombs carved out of the rock presumably date back to the 3rd century.
On the way back we pass the "Felsenreitschule" - Rock Riding School - and the Great Festival Hall of the Salzburg Festival, which used to serve as stables. The display wall of the subsequent horse pond is a creation of Fischer von Erlach, the sculpture with the horse tamer was made Bernhard Michael Mandl and the frescos were created by Franz Anton Ebner.
The Palace of Mirabell on the other side of the Salzach River completes our Salzburg tour.
In 1997 Salzburg became part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Austrian city of Salzburg is a city of bishops as well as being the birthplace of world famous classical composer, Amadeus Mozart.
The cathedral is located in the heart of the city, a Baroque building situated on the same site as the city's first church and now surrounded by several squares. Even today, the cultural picture of the city on the Salzach is dominated by more than 100 churches, castles and palaces.
Hohensalzburg Castle is the largest fully-preserved medieval fortress in Middle Europe. It is located 119 metres above the city and covers over 30,000 square metres. It is like a small medieval town within itself with several buildings, courtyards and squares. Bastions with mighty towers were built at strategic points and together with powerful gates, they make the fortress near impregnable.
It is believed that during a siege ,the famous Salzburg Bull tricked the city's attackers into believing that the population had a good stock of food!
Medieval Salzburg became a 'German Rome', an Italian looking city of Early Baroque design. The Getreidegasse is the main street in the centre of the city and in former times was called, Trabengasse, a name that demonstrates the fact that the people there were always in a hurry!
The city is a work of art within itself, an historic treasure chest of timeless beauty, full of southern flair and joie de vivre. Salzburg is most definitely a Baroque gem located in the very heart of Europe.

The capital city of the State of Salzburg (Land Salzburg), the city has three universities and a large population of students.
Salzburg is on the banks of the Salzach River, at the northern boundary of the Alps. The mountains to Salzburg's south contrast with the rolling plains to the north. The closest alpine peak—the 1972 m Untersberg—is only a few kilometres from the city centre. The Altstadt, or "old town", is dominated by its baroque towers and churches and the massive Festung Hohensalzburg. This area is surrounded by two smaller mountains, the Mönchsberg and Kapuzinerberg, which act as the green lungs of the city. Heute genießt die Stadt das Flair der Mozartstadt, seines berühmtesten Bürgers, der hier geboren wurde und einen guten Teils seines Lebens verbracht hat.
Den besten Rundblick über die Stadt Salzburg und Festung Hohensalzburg hat man vom Mönchsberg aus. Berühmt ist die älteste Einkaufstrasse der Stadt, die Getreidegasse. In dieser schon durch die vielen Zunftzeichen mittelalterlich wirkenden Gasse befindet sich Mozarts Geburtshaus.
Am Rupertitag sind alle Plätze rund um den Dom und die Residenz mit Buden und Fahrgeschäften übersät. Nur das mächtige Geläut der Glocken des Doms vermag das Treiben zu übertönen. Vor der Fassade des Doms, wo die Pferdekutschen warten, wird jedes Jahr der „Jedermann" aufgeführt. Die Residenz neben dem Dom, einstiger Wohnkomplex für die Fürsterzbischöfe, kann besichtigt werden.
Eng an den Berg geschmiegt liegen das Stift St. Peter und sein sehenswerter Friedhof, auf dem viele Honoratioren Salzburgs ihre letzte Ruhe fanden. In den Fels sind Katakomben gehauen, die vermutlich aus dem 3. Jahrhundert stammen.
Auf dem Rückweg passieren wir die Felsenreitschule und die Festspielhäuser, die früher als Ställe dienten. Dazu gehörte auch die Pferdeschwemme. Die Schauwand stammt von Fischer von Erlach, die Skulptur mit dem Pferdebändiger von Bernhard Michael Mandl und die Fresken von Franz Anton Ebner. Den Abschluss des Rundgangs bildet das Schloss Mirabell, auf der anderen Seite der Salzach. Salzburg gehört zum Weltkulturerbe der UNESCO.

Today the city enjoys the atmosphere of the Mozart city, its most famous citizen who was born and raised here.
One has the best panorama over the city of Salzburg and Hohensalzburg Castle from the Moenchsberg. The Getreidegasse - also known as Grain Lane -- is the famous shopping street in the historic center. In the Getreidegasse you see a lot of medieval guild signs. The house No 9 was the birthplace of the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
On the day of Saint Rupert you find stalls and fairground rides on all places around the Salzburg Cathedral and the Residence Palace. Only the powerful peal of the cathedral bells is able to drown the hustle and bustle. The "Jedermann" is performed every year before the facade of the Salzburg Cathedral, where the horse-drawn carriages are waiting for new customers. Hugo von Hofmannsthal adapted the 15th century English morality play "Everyman" as "Jedermann" in 1912.
The Residence Palace next to the Salzburg Cathedral was the former Prince-Archbishop's residence and can be visited.
Nestled to the mountain is the St. Peter's Abbey with the worth seeing cemetery where dignitaries of Salzburg found their final resting place. The Catacombs carved out of the rock presumably date back to the 3rd century.
On the way back we pass the "Felsenreitschule" - Rock Riding School - and the Great Festival Hall of the Salzburg Festival, which used to serve as stables. The display wall of the subsequent horse pond is a creation of Fischer von Erlach, the sculpture with the horse tamer was made Bernhard Michael Mandl and the frescos were created by Franz Anton Ebner.
The Palace of Mirabell on the other side of the Salzach River completes our Salzburg tour.
In 1997 Salzburg became part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The cathedral is located in the heart of the city, a Baroque building situated on the same site as the city's first church and now surrounded by several squares. Even today, the cultural picture of the city on the Salzach is dominated by more than 100 churches, castles and palaces.
Hohensalzburg Castle is the largest fully-preserved medieval fortress in Middle Europe. It is located 119 metres above the city and covers over 30,000 square metres. It is like a small medieval town within itself with several buildings, courtyards and squares. Bastions with mighty towers were built at strategic points and together with powerful gates, they make the fortress near impregnable.
It is believed that during a siege ,the famous Salzburg Bull tricked the city's attackers into believing that the population had a good stock of food!
Medieval Salzburg became a 'German Rome', an Italian looking city of Early Baroque design. The Getreidegasse is the main street in the centre of the city and in former times was called, Trabengasse, a name that demonstrates the fact that the people there were always in a hurry!
The city is a work of art within itself, an historic treasure chest of timeless beauty, full of southern flair and joie de vivre. Salzburg is most definitely a Baroque gem located in the very heart of Europe.

It is located on the river Salzach and is a beautiful city, especially during winter holidays when covered with snow, which wasn´t the case this year, unfortunately. But you can find a lot of stock footage about Salzburg during winter.

I don't know if you can tell, but I look a lot like my dad and we both love architecture so we couldn't miss Salzburg. Salzburg is crazy idyllic, most of the houses are blush colours so in a sense it comes of as a pretty feminine city, which I don't mind at all:)
We saw a fortress, shoppingstreets, cafe's and Mozart's birthplace. We saw so much in one day that I had to split the video up in 2 parts, so the rest of Salzburg will be up next week:)

NASA’s Dawn space probe has captured new images of bright craters on Ceres, the dwarf planet that lies between Jupiter and Mars, according to a published report Tuesday.The images were taken 240 miles from Ceres, the closest the spacecraft has come to the celestial body. At its lowest altitude yet, the probe has captured photos of the dwarf planet's strange bright spots....
