Angela Constance (born 15 July 1970) is a Scottish politician who has been Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning since 2014 and the Scottish National Party Member of the Scottish Parliament for Almond Valley (formerly Livingston) since 2007.
Constance stood as a candidate for Depute leader of the SNP in the party's 2014 leadership contest, but lost to Stewart Hosie.
Constance was born in Blackburn, West Lothian, the daughter of Simon Constance, a coalminer, and Mary Constance (née Colquhoun). She was raised in Addiewell and West Calder. While studying at the University of Glasgow, Constance was elected President of Glasgow University Students' Representative Council, where her sabbatical vice president was Alasdair Allan, now SNP MSP for the Western Isles.
Before her election to Holyrood, Constance worked as a social worker and was a councillor for West Lothian Council where she was the SNP spokesperson for children services and lifelong learning. She also stood for the SNP in the Livingston by-election, 2005.

Governments can only create jobs in public services. 2. An apprenticeship provides at least three years training and work (providing the employing firms survive these hard times) and gives a level of security of employment and advanced training absent in the previous jobs/schemses to those who had jobs. A Scottish Government minister has appealed to the new "apostles for independence" to elect her as deputy leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP). Angela Constance has sent a message to the tens of thousands of new SNP members who joined in the wake of the referendum that she will ensure "the hope of living in an independent Scotland and everything that it can deliver is never extinguished". Scotland's Education Secretary Angela Constance has defended how much her government was spending on schools ahead of a keynote speech by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. She told the BBC's Today programme that "despite austerity" there had been a 3% rise in spending. Ms Sturgeon is due to outline plans to improve attainment levels of pupils. Scottish Labour said there needed to be "bold changes" to improve education for the poorest children.
