Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714--1788) Wurttemberg Sonatas N1 in A minor (Wq.49/1 - H.30)
It is very well-known that Johann Sebastian Bach was the summit and the end of a period of music composing. According to Joseph Schillinger (1895-1943), the greatest composers (the "3 B's": Bach - Beethoven - Brahms, but one may add to this Wagner too) emerged at the end of one musical "cycle" (period or era) and they are not actually innovators.
In Schillinger's own terms, the preceding music hi

It is sometimes referred to as the "Great G minor symphony," to distinguish it from the "Little G minor symphony," No. 25. The two are the only minor key symphonies Mozart wrote. The 40th Symphony was completed on 25 July 1788. The composition occupied an exceptionally productive period of just a few weeks in 1788, dur

A Lesson in History: 1788-1988
The unofficial yet accurate Aboriginal Australian version by Aboriginal Education Consultative Volunteer Group of Marrickville Australia in 1987.
Created by NSW AECG staff and teachers to summarise two hundred years of hidden history - helping to explain the cultural differences and modern-day disadvantages and criminalisation of Australians of Aboriginal ancestry. Broadcast on UHF31-TV in Jan 1988 now in the Public Arena.
Thank you TAFE & AECG network for supporting community teaching and learning.
Two hundred years and a koala on the spit. Happy European Australians called a bicentennial party to celebrate the eng-Land conquest of the southern continent or "FreeLand" as they thought of it simply.
Unlike their 150 year sesqi-conquestical in 1938 - whereat a harried mob of rural blacks were trucked in to play-out their happy victim roles in a great public televisual display amounting to political puppetry - the blacks in 1988 weren't invited.
But guess who came to the invasionary bicentennial dinner party?
Anyway, this little video document offers a clear concise and precise recording of the universally accepted facts of Australia's 200 year colonial history - it was the Aboriginal Holocaust.
These fellas have done their research by telling the horrible truth in simple words in sync with appropriate storylines and historical images from deep in the archives.
A must-see film for any Aboriginal Holocaust deniers seeking the truth.
Four minutes in you'll find a never-seen dramatisation of invasion contact featuring a young Bart Willoughby and others enacting tribal ways. It's unique.
The history lines continues beyond the Massacre Era (1770-1838), through the phases of enslavement and assimilation in the Refugee Detention Era (1839-1967) into the what's-the-problem-with-you-fellas-...-can't-you-get-over-it? phase of the We'reReconciledButLivingSeparately Era of today.

Intervienen:
Ana Clara Guerrero, profesora de Historia Contemporánea de la UNED; Emilio Laparra, catedrático de Historia Contemporánea de la Universidad de Alicante; Carlos Sambricio, catedrático H. Arquitectura de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid; José Luis Sancho, Historiador del Patrimonio Nacional.

For over 200 years, migration has been intrinsic to Australia's national identity. In the first of three migration programs for upper primary viewers, the colonisation of Australia from 1788-1900 is depicted. A range of storytelling methods are used to recreate the often scary and exciting atmosphere of these early times. The final two segments look specifically at the migrant experiences of the British and Chinese, especially during the Gold Rush period. Their stories are told in an accessible and authentic way, providing audiences with a dramatic first-hand account of Australia's turbulent beginnings. This is an ideal resource which shows how, in less than a century, the country went from an outback penal colony to a nation striving for independence.

LIBERALES Y ABSOLUTISTAS 1788-1843

It is very well-known that Johann Sebastian Bach was the summit and the end of a period of music composing. According to Joseph Schillinger (1895-1943), the greatest composers (the "3 B's": Bach - Beethoven - Brahms, but one may add to this Wagner too) emerged at the end of one musical "cycle" (period or era) and they are not actually innovators.
In Schillinger's own terms, the preceding music history has reached its apex and "crystallized" with those composers.
The abounding harmonic and instrumental innovations in the music of Johann Sebastian Bach are actually the results of the current polyphonic Baroque style reaching its climax and, simultaneously its end. The same goes true for Beethoven and the classical style as well as Brahms and the romantic.
The composer sons of J. S. Bach, on the contrary, are renovators and innovators.
They did not follow on their father's tracks, but instead, they have been the precursors of the "new style": the classical style.
Joseph Haydn always referred and studied the sonatas of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.
One may be therefore sure that the tutoring of Johann Sebastian Bach did not resulted in making more or less talented clones of himself, but genuinely creative and innovative musicians who wholeheartedly adopted the new instruments (the "piano-forte") and the new musical style which they developed to a point where Haydn and Mozart will naturally grow upon.
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was born on the 8th of March 1788 in Weimar and died in Hamburg on December 14th of 1788. Fifth son of Johann Sebastian and Maria Barbara Bach he had G. P. Telemann as his godfather.
Together with serious law and general studies he had his father as his unique music teacher. Highly gifted, he would become a famous virtuoso at the keyboards.
He settled down in Berlin at 1738 where he would stay for 30 years. On 1740 he started to work for Frederic II of Prussia then at the beginning of his reign. Carl Philipp was the accompanist of the king who played the flute, and his musical adviser. He kept this position until 1768.
He resigned in 1768 and replaced Georg Philipp Telemann, who died few months earlier, as Music Director at Hamburg. He gave there many concerts, directed the "premieres" of many of the composers of his day and stayed until his death.
Sometimes called "the Bach of Berlin" or "the Bach of Hamburg" he was, among his brothers, probably the most refined and creative composer. He endorsed the "new" style of music composing and developed this into the "classical style" as we know today.
A highly educated and intellectual person, he was aware of the new ideas of his epoch and left a very large work, cataloged by the musicologist Alfred Wotquenne ("Wq").

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote his Symphony No. 40 in G minor, KV. 550, in 1788. It is sometimes referred to as the "Great G minor symphony," to distinguish it from the "Little G minor symphony," No. 25. The two are the only minor key symphonies Mozart wrote. The 40th Symphony was completed on 25 July 1788. The composition occupied an exceptionally productive period of just a few weeks in 1788, during which time he also completed the 39th and 41st symphonies (26 June and 10 August, respectively). The symphony is scored (in its revised version) for flute, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, and strings. Notably missing are trumpets and timpani.
The work is in four movements, in the usual arrangement (fast movement, slow movement, minuet, fast movement) for a classical-style symphony:
1. Molto allegro, 2/2
2. Andante, 6/8
3. Menuetto. Allegretto -- Trio, 3/4
4. Finale. Allegro assai, 2/2.
Every movement but the third is in sonata form; the minuet and trio are in the usual ternary form. This work has elicited varying interpretations from critics. Robert Schumann regarded it as possessing "Grecian lightness and grace". Donald Francis Tovey saw in it the character of opera buffa. Almost certainly, however, the most common perception today is that the symphony is tragic in tone and intensely emotional; for example, Charles Rosen (in The Classical Style) has called the symphony "a work of passion, violence, and grief."
Although interpretations differ, the symphony is unquestionably one of Mozart's most greatly admired works, and it is frequently performed and recorded. Ludwig van Beethoven knew the symphony well, copying out 29 measures from the score in one of his sketchbooks. It is thought that the opening theme of the last movement may have inspired Beethoven in composing the third movement of his Fifth Symphony.

THE PRADERA DE SAN ISIDRO, FRANCISCO DE GOYA Y LUCIENTES, (1788) BY ENRIQUE QUINTANA
On the occasion of the exhibition Captive Beauty from Fra Angelico to Fortuny, Enrique Quintana, Head of the Paintings Restoration Department at the Museo del Prado, comments on the work The Pradera de San Isidro, Francisco de Goya y Lucientes, (1788).
Goya never actually painted the cartoon for this scene, which is one of his masterpieces, and the most popular of a series intended for the bedroom of the infantas in Madrid's El Pardo Palace. The project was suspended following the death of Carlos III. Here, the painter manages to capture the sensation of life and the hustle and bustle of a crowd sitting in the meadow. The landscape opens onto the Manzanares River and the background offers a panoramic view of Madrid, where the beauty of light and color are joined by the precision of the topography, including the huge buildings of the Royal Palace and the Seminary, as well as the large dome of the church of San Francisco el Grande, and other perfectly recognizable towers.

Description by Michael Jameson [-]
Among the greatest works ever penned for the "difficult" combination of violin, viola, and cello, Mozart's sublime and masterful Divertimento for strings trio in E flat major, K. 563, dates from the miraculous summer months of 1788. Although plagued by debts (K. 563 is dedicated to Mozart's fellow freemason Michael Puchberg, who advanced a number of loans to the composer) and anxieties, and saddened by the premature death of his young daughter Theresia on June 29, Mozart produced a string of astounding works during this period, regardless of the adversity of his personal circumstances.
Although string trios were also written by Boccherini and the Haydn brothers, (and later by Schubert, Beethoven Reger, Dohnányi, and others) the genre almost invariably proves troublesome. The absence of a second violin requires that the harmonic texture be reinforced by viola and cello, placing demands upon the players who are often required to exploit extreme registers. Meanwhile, the violin parts are of virtuoso difficulty, and hence the string trio genre was not widely accepted by a musical public which had shown an insatiable appetite for Joseph Haydn's string quartets.
Mozart's Divertimento, K. 563, comprises six movements, the first of which, an Allegro in common time and regular sonata form, opens with a unison tonic descending arpeggio. The lyrical, soaring second subject theme is debated by violin and cello playing a sixth apart, but the labyrinthine fugal exchanges of the development section attain a depth and sonority that seems hardly credible given that just three players are involved. The A flat Adagio has a noble seriousness which echoes the slow movement of Mozart's Symphony No. 39, written earlier that summer. The roots of divertimento style in the popular entertainment music of Mozart's day are re-created in each of the two minuets, the second of which is remarkable for its two trios, in the form of an Austrian Ländler. These enfold a magnificent movement in variation form, an Andante in B flat, built upon a charming folk-like melody. By the time the final variation (a chorale theme played by the viola in half notes against a brilliant counterpoint between violin and cello, both playing running passages) is reached, the original theme is hardly discernible, although it returns in unmistakable form at the close of the movement. Mozart's K. 563 Divertimento ends with a brilliant Rondo in opera buffa style, which again places bravura demands upon each of the three players with its complex instrumental dialogue.
