my 2 year old daughter at rest in bed with Croup - presenting with barking cough, stridor and distressed breathing and depressions in the chest.
These all together at rest are indications for you to seek medical attention for your child.
My daughter was under prescription inhalers and we had a nurse monitoring her during the filming of this video. Never be afraid to call for help. Croup can turn into an emergency very quickly. You must closely monitor the child and look out for signs of breathing distress.
Croup (laryngotracheobronchitis) is an inflammation of the windpipe (trachea) and voice box (larynx) typically caused by a contagious viral infection that causes cough, a loud squeaking noise (stridor), and sometimes difficulty with breathing in (inspiration).
Croup is caused by viruses.
Symptoms include fever, runny nose, and a typical bark-like cough.
The diagnosis is based on symptoms.
Most children recover at home, but those who require hospitalization receive fluids, oxygen, and drugs.

As a personal message to some viewers. This was my daughter's 5th episode of croup. I had a nurse present in the room with me while I made this video and my daughter is perfectly happy and healthy today. Being a single mother at home alone and dealing with croup was one of the most terrifying experiences for me and google and YouTube information and videos helped me a lot to understand what was happening. I hope I have helped others in the same way. As I said above if your child's croup is similar to this you may need to go to the hospital. I had inhalers in the house on prescription but they don't always get your child to a comfortable breathing state. Hospital may be needed. Never be afraid to call for help. I was lucky to have a nurse living next door who sat with us for many hours and helped me monitor my daughter.
To those of you in the medical field, I am also in the medical field and understand how helpful it can be to see a real scenario, good luck in your studies.

If you ever wonder what croup sounds like, here you go. Here is our boy, 20-months with Croup. His cough sounds like a seal's bark. His breathing is weezy. He had a fever. Croup typically strikes between 6 months and 5 years old in the late fall months.
We used a humidifier nightly and after a week, his croup cough and symptoms finally cleared. Our biggest fear was our infant getting croup - thankfully we were able to keep them separated.

Croup:
• Croup affects children between 1 to 3 years of age
• It's a viral infection
Symptoms to look for:
• Difficulty breathing
• Barking cough
• Hoarse voice
• Sore throat
• Symptoms are more severe during the night than during the
day
• Croup is a contagious condition
Natural home remedy using mustard powder and olive oil:
1. Take 3 tbsp of corn flour
2. Add 1 tsp mustard powder
3. Add 2 tbsp warm olive oil to it
4. Mix it to make a thick paste
5. Wrap this paste in a clean handkerchief
6. Ask your child hold this close to his nose for about 20-30 min
7. Repeat this 4-5 times during the day
• You may even tie this loosely around your child's neck while
sleeping.
• Remember to prepare a fresh mixture the next day.
Natural home remedy using ginger and basil:
1. Take a small piece of ginger
2. Take 2-3 cloves
3. Add to it 6-8 basil leaves
4. Crush the mixture
5. Give a pinch of this mixture to the child
6. Ask him to suck on it slowly
7. Give the remaining mixture, in small doses after every 3 hr
Natural home remedy using lemon juice and honey:
1. Take ½ glass warm water
2. Add 2 tbsp lemon juice to it
3. Add 1 tbsp honey
4. Add 1 tbsp ginger juice to it
5. Mix well
6. Give this drink to the child 2 times a day
Tips:
• Moist air is very helpful during a croup attack
• Make sure child's body stays hydrated
• Smoke may worsen the child's condition

Croup
Croup is a type of respiratory infection that is usually caused by a virus. The infection leads to swelling inside the wind pipe, which interferes with normal breathing and produces the classic symptoms of "barking" cough, stridor, and a hoarse voice. Fever and runny nose may also be present. These symptoms may be mild, moderate, or severe. Often it starts or is worse at night. It normally lasts one to two days.
Croup can be caused by a number of viruses including parainfluenza and influenza virus. Rarely it is due to a bacterial infection. Croup is typically diagnosed based on signs and symptoms after potentially more severe causes such as epiglottitis or an airway foreign body have been ruled out. Further investigations—such as blood tests, X-rays, and cultures—are usually not needed.

My daughter was under prescription inhalers and we had a nurse monitoring her during the filming of this video. Never be afraid to call for help. Croup can turn into an emergency very quickly. You must closely monitor the child and look out for signs of breathing distress.
Croup (laryngotracheobronchitis) is an inflammation of the windpipe (trachea) and voice box (larynx) typically caused by a contagious viral infection that causes cough, a loud squeaking noise (stridor), and sometimes difficulty with breathing in (inspiration).
Croup is caused by viruses.
Symptoms include fever, runny nose, and a typical bark-like cough.
The diagnosis is based on symptoms.
Most children recover at home, but those who require hospitalization receive fluids, oxygen, and drugs.

As a personal message to some viewers. This was my daughter's 5th episode of croup. I had a nurse present in the room with me while I made this video and my daughter is perfectly happy and healthy today. Being a single mother at home alone and dealing with croup was one of the most terrifying experiences for me and google and YouTube information and videos helped me a lot to understand what was happening. I hope I have helped others in the same way. As I said above if your child's croup is similar to this you may need to go to the hospital. I had inhalers in the house on prescription but they don't always get your child to a comfortable breathing state. Hospital may be needed. Never be afraid to call for help. I was lucky to have a nurse living next door who sat with us for many hours and helped me monitor my daughter.
To those of you in the medical field, I am also in the medical field and understand how helpful it can be to see a real scenario, good luck in your studies.

If you ever wonder what croup sounds like, here you go. Here is our boy, 20-months with Croup. His cough sounds like a seal's bark. His breathing is weezy. He had a fever. Croup typically strikes between 6 months and 5 years old in the late fall months.
We used a humidifier nightly and after a week, his croup cough and symptoms finally cleared. Our biggest fear was our infant getting croup - thankfully we were able to keep them separated.

Croup:
• Croup affects children between 1 to 3 years of age
• It's a viral infection
Symptoms to look for:
• Difficulty breathing
• Barking cough
• Hoarse voice
• Sore throat
• Symptoms are more severe during the night than during the
day
• Croup is a contagious condition
Natural home remedy using mustard powder and olive oil:
1. Take 3 tbsp of corn flour
2. Add 1 tsp mustard powder
3. Add 2 tbsp warm olive oil to it
4. Mix it to make a thick paste
5. Wrap this paste in a clean handkerchief
6. Ask your child hold this close to his nose for about 20-30 min
7. Repeat this 4-5 times during the day
• You may even tie this loosely around your child's neck while
sleeping.
• Remember to prepare a fresh mixture the next day.
Natural home remedy using ginger and basil:
1. Take a small piece of ginger
2. Take 2-3 cloves
3. Add to it 6-8 basil leaves
4. Crush the mixture
5. Give a pinch of this mixture to the child
6. Ask him to suck on it slowly
7. Give the remaining mixture, in small doses after every 3 hr
Natural home remedy using lemon juice and honey:
1. Take ½ glass warm water
2. Add 2 tbsp lemon juice to it
3. Add 1 tbsp honey
4. Add 1 tbsp ginger juice to it
5. Mix well
6. Give this drink to the child 2 times a day
Tips:
• Moist air is very helpful during a croup attack
• Make sure child's body stays hydrated
• Smoke may worsen the child's condition
