It only takes 30 minutes and brings you through the heart of Pisa in the Old Town pedestrian zone, lined with shops, cafes, restaurants and historic sights. The famous Leaning Tower isn't the only thing that makes Pisa as unique as is it beautiful.

Believe it or not the Leaning Tower of Pisa was not designed to lean. Construction began in the 1173 and it wasn't completed until 1372! That's a whopping 199 years!
Very early on the engineer realised that the tower was beginning to lean, and despite their best efforts the tower continued to tilt as the build continued. Over time the tower's tilt increased at an average rate of 1mm every year. 1mm doesn't sound by much but by the 1990 the tower was at risk of toppling over it was closed to the public.
Engineers over the years had different ideas on how to stop it falling over. One such idea did more damage than good and is commonly known as Black September. In September 1995 architects decided to attach 10 steel weights 45 meters underground and pump in liquid nitrogen to freeze the soil. The idea was good enough but during installation the tower suddenly started leaning even more. Engineers immediately piled any heavy objects they could find to stop it falling!

Pisa (
/ˈpiːzə/; Italian pronunciation: [ˈpiːsa]) is a city in Tuscany, Central Italy, on the right bank of the mouth of the River Arno on the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is the capital city of the Province of Pisa. Although Pisa is known worldwide for its leaning tower (the bell tower of the city's cathedral), the city of over 88,332 residents (around 200,000 with the metropolitan area) contains more than 20 other historic churches, several palaces and various bridges across the River Arno.
The city is also home of the University of Pisa, which has a history going back to the 12th century and also has the mythic Napoleonic Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies as the best Superior Graduate Schools in Italy.
Pisa lies at the junction of two rivers, the Arno and the Serchio, which form a laguna at the Tyrrhenian Sea. The origin of the name, Pisa, is a mystery. While the origin of the city had remained unknown for centuries, the Pelasgi, the Greeks, the Etruscans, and the Ligurians had variously been proposed as founders of the city. Archaeological remains from the 5th century BC confirmed the existence of a city at the sea, trading with Greeks and Gauls. The presence of an Etruscan necropolis, discovered during excavations in the Arena Garibaldi in 1991, confirmed its Etruscan origins.

Why does the leaning tower of Pisa lean? | Sci Guide with Jheni Osman | Head Squeeze
Believe it or not the Leaning Tower of Pisa was not designed to lean. Construction began in the 1173 and it wasn't completed until 1372! That's a whopping 199 years! Very early on the engineer realised that the tower was beginning to lean, and despite their best efforts the tower continued to tilt as the build continued. Over time the tower's tilt increased at an average rate of 1mm every year. 1mm doesn't sound by much but by the 1990 the tower was at risk of toppling over it was closed to the public. Engineers over the years had different ideas on how to stop it falling over. One such idea did more damage than good and is commonly known as Black September. In September 1995 architects decided to attach 10 steel weights 45 meters underground and pump in liquid nitrogen to freeze the ... -

Believe it or not the Leaning Tower of Pisa was not designed to lean. Construction began in the 1173 and it wasn't completed until 1372! That's a whopping 199 years!
Very early on the engineer realised that the tower was beginning to lean, and despite their best efforts the tower continued to tilt as the build continued. Over time the tower's tilt increased at an average rate of 1mm every year. 1mm doesn't sound by much but by the 1990 the tower was at risk of toppling over it was closed to the public.
Engineers over the years had different ideas on how to stop it falling over. One such idea did more damage than good and is commonly known as Black September. In September 1995 architects decided to attach 10 steel weights 45 meters underground and pump in liquid nitrogen to freeze the soil. The idea was good enough but during installation the tower suddenly started leaning even more. Engineers immediately piled any heavy objects they could find to stop it falling!

Leaning Tower of Pisa Italy | Visit Leaning Tower of Pisa documentary | Travel Videos Guide
The Leaning Tower of Pisa (Italian: Torre pendente di Pisa) or simply the Tower of Pisa (Torre di Pisa) is the campanile, or freestanding bell tower, of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa, known worldwide for its unintended tilt to one side. It is situated behind the Cathedral and is the third oldest structure in Pisa's Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo) after the Cathedral and the Baptistry. The tower's tilt began during construction, caused by an inadequate foundation on ground too soft on one side to properly support the structure's weight. The tilt increased in the decades before the structure was completed, and gradually increased until the structure was stabilized (and the tilt partially corrected) by efforts in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Florence began 59 B.C., when Julius Caesar’s former soldiers settled along the Arno River. The city, initially called Florentia, grew up around these settlements. Today, the old Roman parts of the city are long gone, but the Piazza della Repubblica features a towering monument—the Column of Abundance—where the ancient Roman main streets met.
Explore some additional history at the Centro Storico, the historic center of the city. This area features a number of medieval buildings, like the breathtaking Florence Cathedral. Centro Storico is also where you can meet Il Porcellino, a bronze boar statue that is something of a mascot for Florence. Put a coin in his mouth for good luck—it can’t hurt, right?
Continue your Florence tour by taking in some of the world’s most stunning religious art, much of it created under the Medici family in the 15th and 16th centuries. You’ll find statues in parks and fountains, as well as outside and inside buildings. Stop by the Uffizi Gallery, which spans a full city block, and view paintings by great artists such as Sandro Botticelli. You’ll also want to visit the Gallery of The Academy to see some of Michelangelo’s seminal work.
On the south side of the Arno River is Palazzo Pitti, one of the Medici family’s residences during the Renaissance. It’s now a large set of galleries, where you can view some of the Medici heirlooms and some of their prized artwork, including pieces by Raphael and Correggio.

when I first saw the "Under the tucsan Sun trailer" I knew that I need to discover Toscana or Tuscany as the Italian folk says (Travel Channel Tuscany)... today after visiting Rome, Bologna, Genova, Sardinia, Florence, Verona, Venezia, Firenze, Pisa, Siena, Livorno, Padova, Viareggio, Lucca, Volterra, Chianti Barberino val de Elsa and San Gimignano ...so I decided to create this travel guide video for you! And I'm pretty excited to guide you through one of the most beautiful countries of Europe. In this video I introduce you Tuscany in Italy-The Charmed Land and the Dolce Vita Under the Tuscan Sun.
To sum up here are 10 things you should do in Tuscany:
1: sleep in a typical Tuscan Villa or Middle age like castle in Tuscany like "Villa Pitiana"
2: visit traditional italian cities like "Barberino val de Elsa" and enjoy the dolce vita
3: enjoy the view: like me in San Gimignano, Italy's Towering Hill Town
4: breath in the culture,make a guided tour in Florence (Firenze) and explore the Galleria dell Academia, make a walk on Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio, check out the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with the Baptistery, or discover the view from thr Campanile - Bell Tower. There are so many tourist attractions in Florence...you won't believe your eyes when crossing the Ponte Vecchio bridge. It is around twenty five miles long, with many sharp curves, and often seems to hover above the sea. Amalfi is the beating heart of the coast and .today a world famous resort that is squeezed into the mouth of a valley of mills. In the Middle Ages, along with Pisa, Genoa and Venice, Amalfi was one of Italy’s most powerful maritime republics and its prosperity showed. High above the coast is Ravello that in the ninth century belonged to the League of Cities of the Amalfi Republic and served as a defence against the Normans. It boasted twelve churches plus various convents and palaces in mediaeval Moorish architecture that highlighted a glorious era of luxury and wealth. One of the most beautiful roads in the world, the Amalfitana travels along a remarkable coastline and through character–rich locations that are full of the varied architecture that only the pages of history can endow.

Pisa is a city in Tuscany, Central Italy, on the right bank of the mouth of the River Arno on the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is the capital city of the Province of Pisa. Although Pisa is known worldwide for its leaning tower (the bell tower of the city's cathedral), the city of over 88,332 residents (around 200,000 with the metropolitan area) contains more than 20 other historic churches, several palaces and various bridges across the River Arno. Much of the city's architecture was financed from its history as one of the Italian maritime republics.
The city is also home of the University of Pisa, which has a history going back to the 12th century and also has the mythic Napoleonic Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies as the best Superior Graduate Schools in Italy.
History
Ancient times
Pisa lies at the junction of two rivers, the Arno and the Serchio, which form a laguna at the Tyrrhenian Sea. The origin of the name, Pisa, is a mystery. While the origin of the city had remained unknown for centuries, the Pelasgi, the Greeks, the Etruscans, and the Ligurians had variously been proposed as founders of the city (for example, a colony of the ancient city of Pisa, Greece). Archaeological remains from the 5th century BC confirmed the existence of a city at the sea, trading with Greeks and Gauls. The presence of an Etruscan necropolis, discovered during excavations in the Arena Garibaldi in 1991, confirmed its Etruscan origins.
Ancient Roman authors referred to Pisa as an old city. Strabo referred Pisa's origins to the mythical Nestor, king of Pylos, after the fall of Troy. Virgil, in his Aeneid, states that Pisa was already a great center by the times described; the settlers from the Alpheus coast have been credited with the founding of the city in the 'Etruscan lands'. The Virgilian commentator Servius wrote that the Teuti, or Pelops, the king of the Pisaeans, founded the town thirteen centuries before the start of the common era.
The maritime role of Pisa should have been already prominent if the ancient authorities ascribed to it the invention of the naval ram. Pisa took advantage of being the only port along the western coast from Genoa (then a small village) to Ostia. Pisa served as a base for Roman naval expeditions against Ligurians, Gauls and Carthaginians. In 180 BC, it became a Roman colony under Roman law, as Portus Pisanus. In 89 BC, Portus Pisanus became a municipium. Emperor Augustus fortified the colony into an important port and changed the name in Colonia Iulia obsequens.
It is supposed that Pisa was founded on the shore. However, due to the alluvial sediments from the Arno and the Serchio, the shore moved west. Strabo states that the city was 2.5 miles (4.0 km) away from the coast. Currently, it is located 6 miles (9.7 km) from the coast. However it was a maritime city, with ships sailing up the Arno.

In the final video we continue through Tuscany to Lucca, a quick stop off in Pisa for the obligatory “holding up the Leaning Tower selfie” before visiting the rugged Italian coastline of Cinque Terre and the gorgeous beaches of Tarquinia.
So after over 850 miles in our trusty Spaceships Camper Car, 10 stops, and (many) bottles of wine, we have totally fallen in love with Italy! All the details on where we went, what we did and where we stayed are below!
