Where are they now? The faces of the January 6 US Capitol riot
A year after Donald Trump urged thousands of his supporters to “fight like hell” just hours before the US Capitol building was overrun on January 6, 2021, authorities in the United States are still prosecuting accused rioters.
More than 700 people have been arrested over the incident, which Democrats often describe as an insurrection that aimed to violently prevent the certification of President Joe Biden’s election victory.
While Trump appears to have escaped legal repercussions for the Capitol riot so far, many of his supporters have not.

How the Capitol Coup Unfolded Minute by Minute
Wednesday’s assault on the U.S. Capitol by mobs of rioters incited by President Trump unfolded quickly and chaotically. At 12:53 p.m., the first Trump supporters reached the barricades in front of the capitol, demanding to be let through. The inexplicably small number of cops on the scene held the line at first, but were quickly overwhelmed. By 1:15 p.m., thousands of Trump extremists filled the steps and balconies of the Capitol. Videos filmed by documentarian Alexandra Pelosi, daughter of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, showed Democrats making frantic calls, practically begging federal officials for help, while former President Donald Trump watched the violence unfold on television, according to video of witnesses who testified before the panel earlier this year.
"I'm going to call the effin secretary of DOD," Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said on Jan. 6, 2021, as he poked numbers on a phone to dial acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller. Congressional leaders also called acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen and governors in Maryland and Virginia.
