Ulama dari tanah suci Mekkah, as-Sayyid Abbas bin Alawi al-Maliki telah menghadap keharibaan Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala pada 24 Jumadil Akhir 1436 H/14 April 2015, pukul 03.00 waktu Makkah atau 07.00 WIB. Beliau merupakan saudara kandung adik seorang ulama dan muhadits as-Sayyid Muhammad Alawi al-Maliki. Sayyid (pronounced [ˈsæjjɪd], or [ˈsæjjed], Arabic: سيد‎; meaning Mister; plural Sadah Arabic: سادة‎, Sādah) is an honorific title, it denotes males accepted as descendants of the Islamic prophet Muhammad through his grandsons, Hasan ibn Ali and Husain ibn Ali, sons of the prophet's daughter Fatima Zahra and his son-in-law Ali ibn Abi Talib.

Daughters of sayyids are given the titles Sayyida, Alawiyah, Syarifah, or Sharifah. Children of a Sayyida mother but a non-Sayyid father cannot be attributed the title of Sayyid, however they may claim the title Mirza for males or Mirziya for females. Sayyids are by definition a branch of the tribe of Banu Hashim, a clan from the tribe of Quraish that traces its lineage to Adnan and thence to the Prophet Ismael.

In the Arab world, it is the equivalent of the English word "liege-lord" or "master" when referring to a descendant of Muhammad, as in Sayyid John Smith. This is the reason the word sidi (from the contracted form sayyidī, 'my liege') is used in the Moroccan dialect of Arabic.

This dua which comes to in narration is the single best Dua in asking for forgiveness. Make an effort to memorize it. Shaddad ibn Aws (radiAllahu anhu) relates that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said that the (Sayyid al-Istighfar) most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is to say (the du'a recited in the video). That "If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise." This is a fairly rare video. It is the funeral of the incredibly acclaimed and famous Muhaddith of the Haramain Shareefain (esp.in Makkatul Mukarramah), Sayyidi al-Shaykh al-'Allamah al-Sayyid Dr Muhammad bin 'Alawi al-Maliki al-Makki (rahimahullah), one of the leading Sunni Ulama of this era and the creme de la creme of the Muhaddithin of this age. Throughout generations, the family of this household have held the prestigious posts of Imams and Muhaddiths of the blessed al-Haram al-Sharif. Sayyid Alawi (Rahimahullah)'s honourable father, the gnostic, the great Imam of the Haram, Hadhrat al-Shaykh al-Sayyid al-Alawi bin Abbas al-Maliki al-Makki (Rahimahullah) used to sit opposite the al-Hajar al-Aswad and give his insightful dars of Ahadith, which is where Allamah Mufti Muhammad Mujahid Uddin Chodhury Dubagi saheb, the khalifah of Sahib Qiblah Fultali (Rahimahullah), also received the honour of listening to Ahadith from the Sayyid's blessed lips. Sayyid Muhammad al-'Alawi (Rahimahullah) used to also give Dars al-Hadith at the Haram Sharif at an appointed time every week before the Wahabis forcefully removed him from his post due to his fearless propagation of Sunni beliefs. The noble Shaykh was also exiled from the lands of the Hijaz due to the same reasons and his books were also banned. However, this law could not be upheld by the Wahabi rulers and due to the immense number of supporters of the Sayyid, they were forced into allowing him to re-enter his homeland and continue with his da'wah. This miraculous Janazah is a final announcement made by the Lord of the worlds as to who the noble Shaykh is and what his actual status is, for he is forevermore imprinted in our hearts just as he was in the hearts of the hundreds of thousands who formed an ocean of lovers at his blessed Janazah. He is another proof of the fact that Sunnis are on the right path and that the observation of the Mawlid and other Sunni 'Aqaid are not only carried out in the Indian subcontinent but also in the heart of the capital of Islam by the descendants of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu'alayhiwasallam). May Allah ('Azzawajalla) grant this great Sayyid Jannatul Firdaus as he was undoubtedly a relic of the Ulama of the al-Salaf al-Salih. His brother, Sayyid 'Abbas bin Alawi al-Maliki attended a Mawlid event at the Brick lane mosque recently too. On 26th February, in Moot Court, IIUM, IUM debate series engaged with the motion "This house believes that freedom of speech should not extend to insult of religion" in it's first ever edition. The debaters for team proposition were : Sara Abdul Rahman Hazem Talha Syed Saddiq And the debaters for team opposition were : Amshar Aziz Abdullah Fakhry Mubarrat Wassey At an instant poll conducted within the venue, 68% attendees voted in support of the motion and 32% attendees voted against. At the end of the debate we conducted a second poll and in a large shift of votes 37% voted in support of restriction while an overwhelming 63% voted against thus opposition took the debate by a significant margin. On 26th February, in Moot Court, IIUM, IUM debate series engaged with the motion "This house believes that freedom of speech should not extend to insult of religion" in it's first ever edition. The debaters for team proposition were : Sara Abdul Rahman Hazem Talha Syed Saddiq And the debaters for team opposition were : Amshar Aziz Abdullah Fakhry Mubarrat Wassey At an instant poll conducted within the venue, 68% attendees voted in support of the motion and 32% attendees voted against. At the end of the debate we conducted a second poll and in a large shift of votes 37% voted in support of restriction while an overwhelming 63% voted against thus opposition took the debate by a significant margin. IIUM debate series will keep engaging with issues concerning the society. Stay tuned for the next edition !!!

March 18th, 2010 INTERVIEW Recruiting Canadian Youth: Muslim leaders in Toronto are reacting with sadness and frustration today at the news that a young man from Toronto has been killed, apparently fighting for an extremist group linked with Al-Qaeda in Somalia. Mohammed Elmi Ibrahim was an English major at the University of Toronto until he left the city a year and a half ago, and disappeared. According to a website posting this week by the insurgency group Al-Shabab, the young man was killed in battle. There is a YouTube video, as well as a printed message. The message praises Ibrahim, and calls on other Canadian youth to follow in his footsteps. We spoke with Sayyid Ahmed Amiruddin, an Imam here in Toronto who works with Muslim youth. He formed a foundation four years ago aimed at steering young people away from extremist ideology.
