Dan 7:1-18
"The Dream of the
Four Beasts"
This begins the second section of the book.
Chapters 1-6 we have the historic section
Chapters 7-12 will deal with the prophetic visions of Daniel himself.
1. Daniel’s
Dream takes us back Chronologically.
Vs. 1
Verse one tells us that we have now gone back in time chronologically
.
In the first year of
Belshazzar king of
Babylon, (
NIV)
2. Daniel’s Dream Consisted of four beasts.
Vs. 2-3
2a.
The Beast comes out of
The Great Sea
(
Rev. 17:15;
Isa. 17:12).
2b. The Beast represent four kingdoms.
Some of the same features exist in this dream and the dream of
Nebuchadnezzar.
Here is where they differ;
We are introduced to the "little horn".
This is the 'anti christ, the man of sin, the coming world leader, the coming prince."
3. Daniel’s Dream begins with a
Beast that
Changed dramatically.
Vs. 4
3a. The Beast was like a lion with the wings of eagles.
This is a reference to the nation of Babylon. Jer 4:7-8
3b. The Beast is changed like a man and given the heart of a man.
This may be in reference to Nebuchadnezzar and the change in his life and therefore his
kingdom.
4. Daniel’s Dream Continues with a Beast like a bear and a Beast like a
Leopard.
Vs. 5-6
4a. The second kingdom was like a
Bear.
This bear can be seen as the
Medo-Persian Empire.
4b. The third kingdom was like a leopard.
This is
Greece which is the next empire historically.
5. Daniel’s Dream reveals a Beast that was Contrasted to the others.
Vs. 7-8
The fourth beast was terrifying.
This is a fitting description of the
Roman Empire.
And this is exactly what it did to those that it conquered.
But the description of 10 horns on this beast tells us that it represents
a kingdom of 10 kings or leaders.
This beast relates to the ten toes of the dream in chapter 2.
This last kingdom then is a confederacy of 10 nations, empires, or rulers.
Daniel tells us that this kingdom is unlike any other kingdom or power that has
ruled the earth.
Dan 7:23-25
Rev 13:1-8
Here we have a clear reference to Daniel 7.
In verse 12 Daniel said that aspects of those kingdoms will be around when the
anti-Christ is destroyed.
John sees those influences here in this imagery.
One of its heads received a deadly wound and was brought back to life.
We believe the sixth head is the one that received the fatal blow.
It came back to life as a ten-nation (ten horns) confederacy, making it the seventh
head, out of which will come a world dictator.
The final beast, the anti-Christ in symbolic imagery takes us back to Daniel
7. Rev 17:7-14
7 heads-
Egypt,
Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persian, Greece and
Rome
There is one more to come.
The last world
Empire is a revived Roman Empire.
It was, it was not and it will come again.
It received what seemed was a fatal blow but is revived.
It will have 10 kings over it but 1 will overtake them all.
He is the eight
King or last ruler before Christ returns.
He is the anti-Christ and his kingdom is the fourth beast of Daniel 7.
6. Daniel’s Dream Concluded with a
Judgment scene in heaven.
Vs. 9-14
6a. The judgment scenes focuses on the
Ancient of Days.
This is the sovereign God (cf. Isa. 43:13; 57:15a) who exercises control over men and
nations.
6b. The judgment scene reveals the worship of the
Son of Man.
The Son of Man will establish an
everlasting dominion or kingdom (cf. Dan. 4:34; 7:27).
7. Daniel’s Dream Confirms that
God’s Kingdom will last forever.
Vs. 15-18
7a. The fourth
Kingdom is judged before
God’s kingdom comes.
(Dan. 9:27; Rev. 11:15; 19:15)
7b. God’s Kingdom will be established forever.
7c. God’s Kingdom is given to the
Saints.
