Angola: Calumbo Rain Victims Get Support From Municipal Administration

Luanda — At least two hundred and seventy-four people displaced by the latest rains along the Kwanza River in Calumbo commune, in Viana district, have begun receiving support from the local administration to minimize the difficulties they face, reported, Wednesday, the municipal administrator, Jeremias Dumbo.

According to the official, who was speaking to the press in Luanda, regarding the situation of the victims, they are being transferred from the river bank areas affected by the floods and to be resettled in safer places, also in Calumbo commune. Jeremias Dumbo said that the victims are receiving zinc sheets, blankets, mosquito nets, some food, and other basic goods. For those who are housed with relatives, and many lost their crops, the administrator said that they lack other support and, given that the rains are about to end, your needs will be definitely met afterwards. He explained that the problem of flooding in Calumbo is cyclical, but unfortunately the population, even after being transferred to safer areas, eventually return to risk areas.
