Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is the lead ship of her class of United States Navy supercarriers. It is currently a pre-commissioning unit (PCU) expected to be commissioned into the Navy in 2016. The ship is named after the 38th President of the United States Gerald R. Ford, whose World War II naval service included combat duty aboard the light aircraft carrier Monterey in the Pacific Theater.
The keel of Gerald R. Ford was laid down on 13 November 2009. Construction began on 11 August 2005, when Northrop Grumman held a ceremonial steel cut for a 15-ton plate that forms part of a side shell unit of the carrier. She was christened on 9 November 2013.[2] The schedule called for the ship to join the U.S. Navy's fleet in March 2016 with the first deployment in 2019.Gerald R. Ford will enter the fleet replacing the inactive USS Enterprise (CVN-65), which ended her 51 years of active service in December 2012.

The Largest Aircraft Carrier in The World | Full Documentary 2015
Nimitz Class, with a full load displacement of 97,000t, is the world's largest aircraft carrier. The first carrier in the class was deployed in May 1975, while the tenth and last ship, USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), was commissioned in January 2009. Each carrier of the Nimitz Class is designed to operate for about 50 years, requiring just one mid-life overhaul.
The 332.8m-long supercarrier features a 4.5-acre flight deck capable of carrying more than 60 aircraft. Each ship towers 20 stories above the water and can accommodate 3,000 to 3,200 ship's company, 1,500 air wing and 500 other crew.
Nimitz Class is powered by two nuclear reactors providing a maximum speed of more than 30kt. The Sea Sparrow missiles, Phalanx close-in weapon system (CIWS) and Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAMs) mounted aboard the vessel defend against potential threats. The ships in Nimitz Class will be replaced by the Gerald R. Ford Class (CVN 78) next generation aircraft carriers from 2015.

NIMITZ vs FORD class: TOP 5 IMPROVEMENTS
AUTOMATION & AIR CONDITIONING:
Ford-class has beed designed keeping in mind the cost of an individual sailor. The ship is more automated than any before it, which gives it increased capability with reduced crew.
Automation has been implemented wherever possible, which has reduced crew size ,which in turns lower operating cost.
Ford-class carriers total of only 2,600 sailors, about 700 fewer than a Nimitz-class.
Considering the 50 years life span of the carrier, this will translate to billions of dollars in saving.
The carrier has fully air conditioned crew compartments , drastically improving the living condition of the crews and help in getting more out of each crew.
ELECTROMAGNETIC AIRCRAFT LAUNCH SYSTEM:
Nimitz-class carriers got planes moving for takeoff using steam-actuated catapults. The system required a lot of steam piping, a large condensate return, and tons of fresh water. They also have a lot of maintenance issues.
Plus, with steam-actuation, the majority of the force is being transferred to the airplane at the beginning of the stroke—in a jolt. This puts stress on an airframe, and thus reduces lifespan of the multi-million dollar planes.
Ford class uses Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS). The system uses linear induction motor with an electric current to generate a magnetic field. That field then propels a carriage down a track. Since the power delivery is linear, it negates the deficiencies of steam catapult.
MORE POWER & BETTER EFFICIENCY:
The heart of any aircraft carriers are the nuclear reactors which provide the required power.
Ford class has newly designed reactors.
2 Bechtel A1B nuclear reactors are installed on each Ford-class carrier.
Each one these are capable of producing 300 MW of electricity, triple the 100 MW of each Nimitz-class.
The huge power supply provides for the leg room, required for future expansions like inducting Laser Guns
Also, compared to the Nimitz-class reactor, the Ford reactor have about half as many valves, piping, major pumps, condensers, and generators which reduced maintenance cost and lower space requirements.
IMPROVED RADAR:
Ford class has an integrated Active electronically scanned array search and tracking radar system. The dual-band radar (DBR) utilizes a multi tier, dual-band tracker, which consists of a local X band tracker, a local S band tracker, and a central tracker. The central tracker merges the two signals to provide a comprehensive situational awareness.
The X band tracker is optimized for low latency to support its mission of providing defense against fast, low-flying missiles, while the S band tracker is optimized for large area coverage.
This new system has no moving parts, therefore minimizes maintenance & manning requirements.
Also, the island is kept smaller by replacing 6 to10 radar antennas with a single six-faced radar.
BETTER DECK WITH SMALLER INLAND:
The Ford class has a newly designed deck. It has 3 aircraft elevators instead of 4 in Nimitz.
Eliminating 1 of the elevators further increased the ship's capabilities by leaving room for other things like having dedicated helicopter landing pad.
The island is also smaller and farther aft than the Nimitz‐class, this way, space for flight deck operations and aircraft maintenance is increased.
The result is impressive,Ford class is capable of generating 30 % more sorties (flight missions) per day than Nimitz‐class. This is huge gain since the offensive as well as defensive capabilities of the carrier gets a major lift.
The increased open spaces also provide for great transformational potential like ability to install directed energy weapons & deployment of unmanned aircrafts in future.

Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr. (born Leslie Lynch King Jr.; July 14, 1913 – December 26, 2006) was an American politician who served as the 38th President of the United States from 1974 to 1977. Prior to this he was the 40th Vice President of the United States, serving from 1973 until President Richard Nixon's resignation in 1974. He was the first person appointed to the vice presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment, following the resignation of Vice President Spiro Agnew on October 10, 1973. Becoming president upon Richard Nixon's departure on August 9, 1974, he claimed the distinction as the first and to date the only person to have served as both Vice President and President of the United States without being elected to either office. Before ascending to the vice presidency, Ford served 13 terms as Representative from Michigan's 5th congressional district, eight of them as the House Minority Leader.
As President, Ford signed the Helsinki Accords, marking a move toward détente in the Cold War. With the conquest of South Vietnam by North Vietnam nine months into his presidency, U.S. involvement in Vietnam essentially ended. Domestically, Ford presided over the worst economy in the four decades since the Great Depression, with growing inflation and a recession during his tenure. One of his more controversial acts was to grant a presidential pardon to President Richard Nixon for his role in the Watergate scandal. During Ford's presidency, foreign policy was characterized in procedural terms by the increased role Congress began to play, and by the corresponding curb on the powers of the President. In the GOP presidential primary campaign of 1976, Ford defeated former California Governor Ronald Reagan for the Republican nomination. He narrowly lost the presidential election to the Democratic challenger, former Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter, on November 2.

The first carrier in the class was deployed in May 1975, while the tenth and last ship, USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), was commissioned in January 2009. Each carrier of the Nimitz Class is designed to operate for about 50 years, requiring just one mid-life overhaul. The ship is more automated than any before it, which gives it increased capability with reduced crew. Automation has been implemented wherever possible, which has reduced crew size ,which in turns lower operating cost. Nimitz Class, with a full load displacement of 97,000t, is the world's largest aircraft carrier. The first carrier in the class was deployed in May 1975, while the tenth and last ship, USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), was commissioned in January 2009. Each carrier of the Nimitz Class is designed to operate for about 50 years, requiring just one mid-life overhaul.
The 332.8m-long supercarrier features a 4.5-acre flight deck capable of carrying more than 60 aircraft. Each ship towers 20 stories above the water and can accommodate 3,000 to 3,200 ship's company, 1,500 air wing and 500 other crew.

Ford-class has beed designed keeping in mind the cost of an individual sailor. The ship is more automated than any before it, which gives it increased capability with reduced crew.
Automation has been implemented wherever possible, which has reduced crew size ,which in turns lower operating cost.
Ford-class carriers total of only 2,600 sailors, about 700 fewer than a Nimitz-class.
Considering the 50 years life span of the carrier, this will translate to billions of dollars in saving.
The carrier has fully air conditioned crew compartments , drastically improving the living condition of the crews and help in getting more out of each crew.
ELECTROMAGNETIC AIRCRAFT LAUNCH SYSTEM:
Nimitz-class carriers got planes moving for takeoff using steam-actuated catapults. The system required a lot of steam piping, a large condensate return, and tons of fresh water. They also have a lot of maintenance issues.
Plus, with steam-actuation, the majority of the force is being transferred to the airplane at the beginning of the stroke—in a jolt. This puts stress on an airframe, and thus reduces lifespan of the multi-million dollar planes.
Ford class uses Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS). The system uses linear induction motor with an electric current to generate a magnetic field. That field then propels a carriage down a track. Since the power delivery is linear, it negates the deficiencies of steam catapult.
MORE POWER & BETTER EFFICIENCY:
The heart of any aircraft carriers are the nuclear reactors which provide the required power.
Ford class has newly designed reactors.
2 Bechtel A1B nuclear reactors are installed on each Ford-class carrier.
Each one these are capable of producing 300 MW of electricity, triple the 100 MW of each Nimitz-class.
The huge power supply provides for the leg room, required for future expansions like inducting Laser Guns
Also, compared to the Nimitz-class reactor, the Ford reactor have about half as many valves, piping, major pumps, condensers, and generators which reduced maintenance cost and lower space requirements.
IMPROVED RADAR:
Ford class has an integrated Active electronically scanned array search and tracking radar system. The dual-band radar (DBR) utilizes a multi tier, dual-band tracker, which consists of a local X band tracker, a local S band tracker, and a central tracker. The central tracker merges the two signals to provide a comprehensive situational awareness.
The X band tracker is optimized for low latency to support its mission of providing defense against fast, low-flying missiles, while the S band tracker is optimized for large area coverage.
This new system has no moving parts, therefore minimizes maintenance & manning requirements.
Also, the island is kept smaller by replacing 6 to10 radar antennas with a single six-faced radar.
BETTER DECK WITH SMALLER INLAND:
The Ford class has a newly designed deck. It has 3 aircraft elevators instead of 4 in Nimitz.
Eliminating 1 of the elevators further increased the ship's capabilities by leaving room for other things like having dedicated helicopter landing pad.
The island is also smaller and farther aft than the Nimitz‐class, this way, space for flight deck operations and aircraft maintenance is increased.
The result is impressive,Ford class is capable of generating 30 % more sorties (flight missions) per day than Nimitz‐class. This is huge gain since the offensive as well as defensive capabilities of the carrier gets a major lift.

Saat itu sebuah kapal induk tercanggih milik Amerika, USS Gerald R Ford sedang melakukan perjalanan dari Australia. Ketika melintas dari Pulau Christmas menuju Celah Timor mendekati Zona Ekonomi Ekslusif Indonesia, komandan armada angkatan laut Amerika melihat sebuah kapal selam Indonesia sedang melaju di permukaan.
Armada Amerika sadar bahwa mereka hampir melanggar wilayah sebuah negara berdaulat, mereka segera mengirimkan sinyal ijin melintas dan segera meninggalkan area tersebut dan menjauh. Semua awak armada angkatan laut Amerika melihat sebuah kapal selam Indonesia dengan gagahnya melaju terus tanpa memperdulikan kapal Induk USS Gerald R Ford beserta Frigate US yang mengiringi.
Kapal Selam Indonesia melaju di permukaan sangat dekat dengan rombongan Angkatan Laut Amerika itu bahkan nyaris menabraknya. Mengetahui kehadirannya tidak diinginkan, kapal Induk USS Gerald R Ford beserta Frigate US segera bergegas menjauh dari wilayah Indonesia.
Beberapa hari kemudian dalam konfrensi pers angkatan laut Amerika, secara resmi memuji keberanian armada laut Indonesia yang menjaga perairan Indonesia dengan nyawanya, sehingga tidak takut menghadapi kapal induk beserta Frigate US hanya dengan satu buah kapal selam tua.
Dari keterangan komandan kapal selam armada laut Indonesia yang bertugas saat itu mengatakan, padahal sebenarnya saat itu awak kapal selam Indonesia sedang sibuk memperbaiki kapal selam mereka yang tidak mau ‘nyelem-nyelem’ karena lifting ship pada kapal itu rusak yang menyebabkan kapal terus mengapung.
Jadi bukan karena berani, tapi saat itu kapal selam memang tidak mau ‘nyelem’ dan terus melaju tak terkendali. Bahkan seluruh awak sudah berdoa untuk terakhir kali karena mereka yakin kapal induk bertenaga nuklir Amerika, USS Gerald R Ford beserta Frigate US akan membuat kapal selam Indonesia menjadi butiran besi di dasar laut.

hey Jag, just wanted to give you a heads up on something I found. Near the front of the ship after doing the 7 sets of 2's if you look on the left side that you normally build it goes straight from the 7th 2 to a row of 8, but if you look on the right there are actually only 6 rows of 2 and a row of 3 at the end before the last row which is actually only 7 on the right side. Just thought Id point that out because in the tutorial you say that both sides are the same, in case someone else ran into that problem, because I got to roughly 1:00:04 or so and when i saw the last row of 3 i had to go back and check it.
►Garai Péter NOTICED THIS: At 4:59:30 the video goes dark with audio only for about 40 seconds. This layer is on the tower and there is enough on that layer that does show video to finish that layer easily. That layer just overhangs the layer underneath :-)
