Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live (abbreviated as SNL) is an American late-night live television sketch comedy and variety show created by Lorne Michaels and developed by Dick Ebersol. The show premiered on NBC on October 11, 1975, under the original title NBC's Saturday Night. The show's comedy sketches, which parody contemporary culture and politics, are performed by a large and varying cast of repertory and newer cast members. Each episode is hosted by a celebrity guest (who usually delivers an opening monologue and performs in sketches with the cast) and features performances by a musical guest. An episode normally begins with a cold open sketch that ends with someone breaking character and proclaiming, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!", properly beginning the show.

In 1980, Michaels left the series to explore other opportunities. He was replaced by Jean Doumanian, who was replaced by Ebersol after a season of bad reviews. Ebersol ran the show until 1985, when Michaels returned; Michaels has remained since then. Many of SNL's cast found national stardom while appearing on the show, and achieved success in film and television, both in front of and behind the camera. Others associated with the show, such as writers, have gone on to successful careers creating, writing, or starring in TV and film.

Pete Davidson

Pete Davidson (born November 16, 1993) is an American actor and comedian. He is a featured player on Saturday Night Live, the youngest member of the current cast, and the first SNL cast member to be born in the 1990s.

Previously, Davidson had made appearances on the MTV programs Guy Code, Wild 'n Out, and Failosophy. and standup work on Adam Devine's House Party, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Comedy Underground with Dave Attell, and guest-starred in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Early life

Davidson was born November 16, 1993 in Staten Island, the son of Amy (Waters) and Scott Davidson, a New York City firefighter who died in service during the September 11 attacks.

Davidson first tried his hand at standup comedy at age 16, when he and a group of friends were in a Staten Island bowling alley. His friends, knowing of his comedy aspirations, dared him to take to the stage, which Davidson did, after smoking a marijuana joint. Following high school, he enrolled at St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, though he was there only briefly before he dropped out.

The Jungle

The Jungle is a 1906 novel written by the American journalist and novelist Upton Sinclair (1878–1968). Sinclair wrote the novel to portray the harsh conditions and exploited lives of immigrants in the United States in Chicago and similar industrialized cities. However, most readers were more concerned with his exposure of health violations and unsanitary practices in the American meatpacking industry during the early 20th century, based on an investigation he did for a socialist newspaper.

The book depicts working class poverty, the lack of social supports, harsh and unpleasant living and working conditions, and a hopelessness among many workers. These elements are contrasted with the deeply rooted corruption of people in power. A review by the writer Jack London called it, "the Uncle Tom's Cabin of wage slavery."

Sinclair was considered a muckraker, or journalist who exposed corruption in government and business. He first published the novel in serial form in 1905, in the Socialist newspaper, Appeal to Reason, between February 25, 1905 and November 4, 1905. In 1904, Sinclair had spent seven weeks gathering information while working incognito in the meatpacking plants of the Chicago stockyards for the newspaper. It was published as a book on February 26, 1906, by Doubleday and in a subscribers' edition.
