Summer in 2015, my 13 years old fridge started to not cool enough. So I decided to fix this problem. I did not know what was the main reason for this failure, so I checked many websites as well as youtube videos. What I found was that I needed to check many possibilities for this failure. I cleaned the fridge from bottom to top, then replaced the main control board as well as ice making unit, etc... Non of those worked for me. Then further research, I suspected R-134a ( AKA Freon) thing. So I decided to recharge it. I bought 3 tools. You can buy from ebay or Amazon.

For me this was first time to recharg R-134a, so my work in the video was kind of in fear and trembling, and made many mistakes.
From my experience, you want to keep needle of the gauge at around or less 5 psi during the recharging, and keep it slow.
This video is long and boring if you do not have to fix your fridge, but useful for those who need to recharge compressor with R-134a.
Always be careful with your DIY project, and I hope you can fix your refrigerator problem too.

First you want to make sure the refrigerator is not stuck in defrost. Then you want to go ahead and check the thermostat or also called cold control.

Summer in 2015, my 13 years old fridge started to not cool enough. So I decided to fix this problem. I did not know what was the main reason for this failure, so I checked many websites as well as youtube videos. What I found was that I needed to check many possibilities for this failure. I did not know what was the main reason for this failure, so I checked many websites as well as youtube videos. What I found was that I needed to check many possibilities for this failure. I cleaned the fridge from bottom to top, then replaced the main control board as well as ice making unit, etc... Non of those worked for me. Then further research, I suspected R-134a ( AKA Freon) thing. So I decided to recharge it. I bought 3 tools. You can buy from ebay or Amazon.

For me this was first time to recharg R-134a, so my work in the video was kind of in fear and trembling, and made many mistakes.
From my experience, you want to keep needle of the gauge at around or less 5 psi during the recharging, and keep it slow.
This video is long and boring if you do not have to fix your fridge, but useful for those who need to recharge compressor with R-134a.
Always be careful with your DIY project, and I hope you can fix your refrigerator problem too.

In this video, I take an old refrigerator that was no longer cooling but the compressor still ran and make up a high pressure air system suitable for bottle popping or charging air cannons to good pressure. The compressor is removed from the fridge (I cleaned the back of the fridge before making the video) then it is tested on the bench, mounted on a wood base, and given an intake filter and manifold with pressure gauge. The finished unit is tested by using it to bring an air cannon up to 350 psi. -

As I worked on making this video, I got a few surprises and learned some things weren't quite as I expected them to be based on the repair of this problem with other refrigerators. It didn't turn out to be the authoritative "how to" video that I had hoped it would be. In any event, the repair seems to have been effective and this video is still useful. The saga of my failing, fairly new, refrigerator. Never kept ice cream very well, it's performance has been on a downward trajectory, till this summer the ice maker stopped working and the food wasn't always staying frozen.Winter, and a cooler house (I'm stingy on heating), brought me a little relief, but something had to be done and a decision had to be made. In this video, I take an old refrigerator that was no longer cooling but the compressor still ran and make up a high pressure air system suitable for bottle popping or charging air cannons to good pressure. The compressor is removed from the fridge (I cleaned the back of the fridge before making the video) then it is tested on the bench, mounted on a wood base, and given an intake filter and manifold with pressure gauge. The finished unit is tested by using it to bring an air cannon up to 350 psi.

As I worked on making this video, I got a few surprises and learned some things weren't quite as I expected them to be based on the repair of this problem with other refrigerators. It didn't turn out to be the authoritative "how to" video that I had hoped it would be. In any event, the repair seems to have been effective and this video is still useful.
This video discusses a common problem with any sort of self-defrosting refrigerator, freezer or combination appliance. After a number of years, the water drains become plugged up and unable to function. The result is water collecting where it should not.
I believe the water that ended up dripping onto the motor run capacitor was actually traveling downward in a space between the inner and outer walls of the refrigerator as a result of the overflow.
