Bhombal is young who lives in a small village near Khusthia and he is known as the Sardar because his natural abilities of courage and strength of mind have made him a leader among his friends. To the world of adults Bhombal is a very naughty boy, full of mischief, full of adventure, full of life. School closes for Puja holidays and Bhombal and his friends discover the magic of motion pictures through a toy projector. The pictures they see are of a naval battle and an inspired Bhombal and his henchmen take to be boats of the neighborhood fisherman to stage a mock battle Chased away by the fishermen. Bhombal's indomitable desire for adventure remains unsatisfied. While his friends go home Bhombal is taken away by his own wonderlust. His destination Tatanagar. A hungry Bhombal tries to steal a citrus fruit from the garden of a potter in a nearby village. He is given a chase when discovered, but he eludes them all. And the adventures of Bhombal continue from one village in Bengal to the next, finally he finds shelter in the home of a lonely woman who wishes to keep him forever, but he is not to be tied down. Once again Bhombal takes to the road and on the first day of the Durga Puja he is back again at the village .... A happy ending to the story of an adventurous youth.

Bablu 12 years old of barrister saradindu sanyal is kidnapped by aging of four crooks. While making their getaway the crooks car meet with an accident. Two of the crooks are killed. The other two- Shyamlal and Raghu –run away leaving an unconscious bablu behibd.Bablu recover next morning and find he has lost his memory.Harun,a juggler,takes sympathy to the helpless boy (who now calls himself Phatikchand ), and find him a job in a tea stall is Bentinck street,Harun himself live in a slum in Entally and performs on Sunday in the maidan.
The crooks Shyamlal and Raghu who are back in Calcutta turn up in Bablu’s tea shop and realize that their prey is once within their reach.
Meanwhile, Bablu’s father mr Sanyal decides to put an advertisement in the papers offerin a reward of Rs 5000/- for information about his son.
Sunday while harun performs in the maidan with bablu serving as assistant. Shyamlal and Raghu turn up.Harun overpowers then and run away with bablu in taxi.
In the taxi, bablu’s memory come back. He tells harun about it. Harun takes the boy back to his father next morning unware that the advertisement offering the reward has come out that very morning.
Learning the bablu has been workinh in a tea shopSanyal file into a large Instead of giving harun the money he reprimand him. Harun goes away.
Later sanyal has qualms for having deprived harunof his dues. He gives bablu the cheque and ask him to take it to harun. Bablu rushes to harun’s place.ony to find that he has gone to the howrah station to catch the train to madras where he hopes to join a circus.
Bablu manages to catch harun in the stationat the last moment but harun refuses to take the money. “How can I take money for handling over someone who has beenlike my own brother?” The gaurds blow his whistle. I”ll be back!” shouts harun, waving from the tarin.”Wait for the Great Diamond Circus!”

Synopsis :
Sitesh lived with his elder brother Nitish and sister-in-law. One day he got a job in a jute mill, which was seventy miles away from his home. The whole incident totally made his sister-in-law very upset. Later Sitesh shifted to the jute mill. Within few days, he became mad with the marriage proposals. Everyone including his office colleagues tried to impress him and wanted to make him son-in-law. Nitish tried to help Sitesh to overcome such situation, but everything was flop. A girl who lived opposite to Sitesh building fell in love with him. Unfortunately, the father of that girl was totally against the relation. Later Nitish and his wife came to Sitesh flat and rescued him from all odds. After a huge drama, Sitesh confessed his relationship and everything solved with a happy note.

Satyajit Ray
Satyajit Ray (
listen ; 2 May 1921 – 23 April 1992) was an Indian filmmaker, widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. Ray was born in the city of Calcutta into a Bengali family prominent in the world of arts and literature. Starting his career as a commercial artist, Ray was drawn into independent filmmaking after meeting French filmmaker Jean Renoir and viewing Vittorio De Sica's Italian neorealist film Bicycle Thieves (1948) during a visit to London.
Ray directed 36 films, including feature films, documentaries and shorts. He was also a fiction writer, publisher, illustrator, calligrapher, music composer, graphic designer and film critic. He authored several short stories and novels, primarily aimed at children and adolescents. Feluda, the sleuth, and Professor Shonku, the scientist in his science fiction stories, are popular fictional characters created by him. He was awarded an honorary degree by Oxford University.
Ray's first film, Pather Panchali (1955), won eleven international prizes, including the inaugural Best Human Document award at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival. This film, along with Aparajito (1956), and Apur Sansar (The World of Apu) (1959) form The Apu Trilogy. Ray did the scripting, casting, scoring, and editing, and designed his own credit titles and publicity material. Ray received many major awards in his career, including 32 Indian National Film Awards, a number of awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies, and an Academy Honorary Award in 1992. The Government of India honored him with the Bharat Ratna in 1992.

Sonar Kella (Bengali: সোনার কেল্লা), also Shonar Kella, released in the United States as The Golden Fortress, is a 1971 mystery novel and a 1974 film by Bengali writer and director Satyajit Ray.
The film is an adaptation of the novel with minor plot changes and features the actors Soumitra Chatterjee, Santosh Dutta, Siddartha Chatterjee and Kushal Chakraborty among others.
Plot
The film begins where Mukul Dhar (played by Kushal Chakraborty), a kid who is said to be able to remember events of his previous life, stays up late into the night and draws sketches about peacocks, forts and of battles that he claims to be the battles he had seen, and soon receives the media attention. This finally ended up his father narrating the following incidents to Prodosh Mitter, at his residence about how he met Dr. Hemanga Hajra (Sailen Mukherjee), a parapsychologist, in his book store who in turn enthusiastically offers for help believing it might also help him in his research. After listening to Mukul's descriptions of deserts and peacocks, Dr. Hajra guesses that the place he describes might be in the deserts of Rajasthan. Mukul also mentions that he lived in the Golden Fortress [Sonar Kella] and that their house had lots of gems. Dr. Hajra decides to take Mukul on a trip to Rajasthan hoping this may shed deeper light into such parapsychological phenomenon, as well as help cure the boy.

The cinema of West Bengal (Bengali: টলিউড) refers to the Indian Bengali language film industry based in the Tollygunge region of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The origins of the nickname Tollywood, a portmanteau of the words Tollygunge and Hollywood, dates back to 1932. Although the industry's Gross Box-office is smaller, when compared to large market driven industries of the country such as bollywood, Telugu cinema, and Tamil cinema, the Bengali film industry is known for producing many of Indian cinema's most critically acclaimed global Parallel Cinema and art films, with several of its filmmakers gaining international acclaim, and prominence at the Indian National Film Awards. Modern Bengali cinema is known for re-inventing the cinematic norms from the poetically theoretical to the in-your-face physical and romantic fantasies, that which is evident in the western world.
Ever since Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali (1955) was awarded Best Human Document at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival, Bengali films frequently appeared in international fora and film festivals for the next several decades. This allowed Bengali filmmakers to reach a global audience. The most influential among them was Satyajit Ray, whose films became successful among European, American and Asian audiences. His work subsequently had a worldwide impact, with filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese,James Ivory,Abbas Kiarostami, Elia Kazan, François Truffaut,Carlos Saura,Isao Takahata,Wes Anderson and Danny Boyle being influenced by his cinematic style, and many others such as Akira Kurosawa praising his work.

Uttam Kumar
Uttam Kumar (3 September 1926 – 24 July 1980) (born as Arun Kumar Chatterjee) was an Indian film actor, director, producer, singer and music composer, playback singer who predominantly worked in Indian Cinema. He is widely regarded as the greatest actor of Bengali cinema, and also among the greatest actors ever in India. Through his career he earned commercial as well as critical success, and he remains as an Indian cultural icon,"Raj Kapoor said Uttam is "Smart Modern Hero of India". "Vyjayanthimala said "Uttam lip-synced perfectly" from other hero's".
Considered as the most popular film star of Bengali cinema, Kumar managed to have a huge fan following, that mainly concentrated in the regions of West Bengal, India. He was a recipient of many awards over his lifetime, including National Film Award for Best Actor. A Metro Station in Kolkata was renamed in his honour.
Early life and family
Uttam Kumar was born in Kolkata at the home of his maternal uncle at Ahiritola, while his ancestral house is on Girish Mukherjee Road, Bhowanipore. After his schooling in South Suburban School (Main), he went for higher studies in Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration, a college affiliated to the University of Calcutta. He could not complete his studies and started working at the Kolkata Port trust as a clerk. During this period, he acted in amateur theatre groups. His prodigious joint family had its own theatre group, the Suhrid Samaj, which staged many amateur shows.

Sunday while harun performs in the maidan with bablu serving as assistant. Shyamlal and Raghu turn up.Harun overpowers then and run away with bablu in taxi. In the taxi, bablu’s memory come back. He tells harun about it. Harun takes the boy back to his father next morning unware that the advertisement offering the reward has come out that very morning. Learning the bablu has been workinh in a tea shopSanyal file into a large Instead of giving harun the money he reprimand him. Harun goes away. Later sanyal has qualms for having deprived harunof his dues. He gives bablu the cheque and ask him to take it to harun. Bablu rushes to harun’s place.ony to find that he has gone to the howrah station to catch the train to madras where he hopes to join a circus. Bablu manages to catch harun in the stationat the last moment but harun refuses to take the money. “How can I take money for handling over someone who has beenlike my own brother?” The gaurds blow his whistle. Bhombal is young who lives in a small village near Khusthia and he is known as the Sardar because his natural abilities of courage and strength of mind have made him a leader among his friends. To the world of adults Bhombal is a very naughty boy, full of mischief, full of adventure, full of life. School closes for Puja holidays and Bhombal and his friends discover the magic of motion pictures through a toy projector. The pictures they see are of a naval battle and an inspired Bhombal and his henchmen take to be boats of the neighborhood fisherman to stage a mock battle Chased away by the fishermen. Bhombal's indomitable desire for adventure remains unsatisfied. While his friends go home Bhombal is taken away by his own wonderlust. His destination Tatanagar. A hungry Bhombal tries to steal a citrus fruit from the garden of a potter in a nearby village. He is given a chase when discovered, but he eludes them all. And the adventures of Bhombal continue from one village in Bengal to the next, finally he finds shelter in the home of a lonely woman who wishes to keep him forever, but he is not to be tied down. Once again Bhombal takes to the road and on the first day of the Durga Puja he is back again at the village .... A happy ending to the story of an adventurous youth.

To the world of adults Bhombal is a very naughty boy, full of mischief, full of adventure, full of life. School closes for Puja holidays and Bhombal and his friends discover the magic of motion pictures through a toy projector. The pictures they see are of a naval battle and an inspired Bhombal and his henchmen take to be boats of the neighborhood fisherman to stage a mock battle Chased away by the fishermen. Bhombal's indomitable desire for adventure remains unsatisfied. While his friends go home Bhombal is taken away by his own wonderlust. His destination Tatanagar. A hungry Bhombal tries to steal a citrus fruit from the garden of a potter in a nearby village. He is given a chase when discovered, but he eludes them all. And the adventures of Bhombal continue from one village in Bengal to the next, finally he finds shelter in the home of a lonely woman who wishes to keep him forever, but he is not to be tied down. Once again Bhombal takes to the road and on the first day of the Durga Puja he is back again at the village .... A happy ending to the story of an adventurous youth.

Bablu 12 years old of barrister saradindu sanyal is kidnapped by aging of four crooks. While making their getaway the crooks car meet with an accident. Two of the crooks are killed. The other two- Shyamlal and Raghu –run away leaving an unconscious bablu behibd.Bablu recover next morning and find he has lost his memory.Harun,a juggler,takes sympathy to the helpless boy (who now calls himself Phatikchand ), and find him a job in a tea stall is Bentinck street,Harun himself live in a slum in Entally and performs on Sunday in the maidan.
The crooks Shyamlal and Raghu who are back in Calcutta turn up in Bablu’s tea shop and realize that their prey is once within their reach.
Meanwhile, Bablu’s father mr Sanyal decides to put an advertisement in the papers offerin a reward of Rs 5000/- for information about his son.
Sunday while harun performs in the maidan with bablu serving as assistant. Shyamlal and Raghu turn up.Harun overpowers then and run away with bablu in taxi.
In the taxi, bablu’s memory come back. He tells harun about it. Harun takes the boy back to his father next morning unware that the advertisement offering the reward has come out that very morning.
Learning the bablu has been workinh in a tea shopSanyal file into a large Instead of giving harun the money he reprimand him. Harun goes away.
Later sanyal has qualms for having deprived harunof his dues. He gives bablu the cheque and ask him to take it to harun. Bablu rushes to harun’s place.ony to find that he has gone to the howrah station to catch the train to madras where he hopes to join a circus.
Bablu manages to catch harun in the stationat the last moment but harun refuses to take the money. “How can I take money for handling over someone who has beenlike my own brother?” The gaurds blow his whistle. I”ll be back!” shouts harun, waving from the tarin.”Wait for the Great Diamond Circus!”

Synopsis :
Sitesh lived with his elder brother Nitish and sister-in-law. One day he got a job in a jute mill, which was seventy miles away from his home. The whole incident totally made his sister-in-law very upset. Later Sitesh shifted to the jute mill. Within few days, he became mad with the marriage proposals. Everyone including his office colleagues tried to impress him and wanted to make him son-in-law. Nitish tried to help Sitesh to overcome such situation, but everything was flop. A girl who lived opposite to Sitesh building fell in love with him. Unfortunately, the father of that girl was totally against the relation. Later Nitish and his wife came to Sitesh flat and rescued him from all odds. After a huge drama, Sitesh confessed his relationship and everything solved with a happy note.

Objects in the Mirror Are as They Appear is a film about the Clive House in Kolkata, one of the city’s earliest examples of colonial architecture, where the descendants of a number of refugee families that previously occupied the house have nowadays been driven out in favour of a project to revamp the house into a museum. The families still live on the property, and the film offers a glimpse into their everyday life. It is not, however, the artist’s gaze that we follow, as Gullaksen hired a local, all-female crew to shoot the film. He applies this strategy in order to avoid an exoticising male gaze on the women being filmed and to provide unique access to their lives. Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story.

Khilona (English: Toy) is a 1970 Indian film directed by Chander Vohra and recipient of the Film fare Best Movie Award. Mumtaz won the Film fare Best Actress Award.The film became a box office hit.The film stars Sanjeev Kumar,Mumtaz and Jeetendra.The music is by Laxmikant Pyarelal and lyrics is by Anand Bakshi.

Sanjeev Kumar (9 July 1938 - 6 November 1985) was one of the most prominent Indian actors in Bollywood.Sanjeev Kumar was born as Harihar Jariwala in Bihar, Gujarat to a Gujarati family based in Mumbai. A stint in the film school took him to Bollywood, where he eventually became a famous movie star. He remained a bachelor all his life and died in 1985.
Sanjeev Kumar made his debut in the film Hum Hindustani in 1960. Sanjeev's first film as a hero was the 1965 Nishan. In 1968, he played opposite the famous actor Dilip Kumar in Sangharsh. In 1970, Khilona made him a star. He went on to star in the hits Seeta Aur Geeta (1972) and Manchali (1973).
He started working with the well-known director Gulzar in the early 1970s. He did nine films with Gulzar, including Aandhi (1975), Mausam (1975), Angoor (1981) and Namkeen (1982). Many of his fans believe that these are some of the best films that he did. He was always ready to take unconventional roles that challenged him as an actor. He played Mirza, a chess-obsessed Lucknow (citizen of Lucknow), in Satyajit Ray's classic Shatranj Ke Khiladi (1977). Perhaps his best-remembered roles were in the blockbuster films
Sholay (1975) and Trishul (1978).
During the early 1980s Sanjeev Kumar did more supporting roles than playing the lead. In 1980 he starred in a Punjabi movie Fauji Chacha. In 1985, when he was 47 years old, he died of a heart ailment. He never married. He was however involved with actress Sulakshana Pandit, whom he did not marry, having been turned down by actress Hema Malini whom he was in love with at the time. Hema Malini went on to marry her frequent co-star Dharmendra. Ironically for an actor who played many elderly roles, he did not live to the age of 50. Ten of his already completed films were released after his death, with his final film Professor Ki Padosan being released in 1993. At the time of his death only three-fourths of this film was complete, and it was decided to alter the story in the second half of the film to explain the absence of Sanjeev Kumar's character.
One of his other notable releases after his death was K. Asif's much-delayed Love and God, which was over 20 years in the making.
After director K. Asif died in 1971, production came to a halt and the film was finally released in incomplete form in 1986, one year after its actor Sanjeev Kumar had also died.

"The tide rolls in." - A cast of three and a crew of five - we had planned to shoot this movie in one day. The exterior location was going to be a live location because despite hopes for grey clouds, we were graced by glorious sunshine and the knowledge that on arriving at the beach we were going to find it busy. My first concerns for the day, as we left unit base for the location two hours away, were along the lines of the visibility of a ferry and if so would it be big enough to be seen on screen. Sunshine had already ruined any back up of using the sound effect of a ferry foghorn. Arriving on location, sun in the sky and pebbles big and small covered the length and breadth of the beach. the nightmare that sound was going to be was all too apparent. Actors changed. The 1st A.C. prepped the camera. Mateusz the DoP fixated on a ferry sighting while pondering his own movements along the pebbles. Would new blocking be required? We went up and down the beach and it slowly dawned upon us that the tide was rolling in and this tide planned to start rolling out around 9pm. Damn! Working out a plan B we got into the car and began driving to different parts along the coastline while everyone else waited at the original location - no joy! We were back to plan A and were going to have to re-block and use a small sliver of beach to play out the action. Starting at midday, it was at 6pm that we began to capture good takes as the tide began to roll out and afford us the backdrop of the sea and the contrasts to allow us to make a good movie.

Nella performance gli strumenti alla base dell’interaction design e del digital entertainment vengono sottratti alla bulimia di stimolanti virtuali della generazione “second life” e inseriti all’interno di una visione estetica tradizionale che attribuisce loro significati assolutamente nuovi e unificanti. Tecnicamente la performance ha previsto l’utilizzo di una webcam collegata ad un software che registra in tempo reale i miei movimenti associandoli a dei suoni e trasformando il mio corpo in un sintetizzatore. Il concept alla base della performance è il desiderio di creare una sorta di cortocircuito che contamina tra loro i due linguaggi apparentemente più lontani del mondo, Shakespeare e un videogame.
"To be, or not to be" The question is made by remixing the words of Sir Laurence Olivier in his Hamlet.
The question is always the same, eternal, but here gains new meaning. Being or not being here means to decide to exist in the real or virtual.
In the performance the most vulgar tools at the base of interaction design and digital entertainment are incorporated within a traditional aesthetic vision that gives them absolutely new and unifying meaning.
Technically the performance was designed to use a webcam connected to a real-time software that tracks my movements by associating them with sounds and turning my body into a synthesizer. At the same time my image, projected live on screen behind me, interacts with 3D graphics in order to obtain a kind of augmented reality. The concept behind the performance is the desire of melting togheter two very distant languages: Shakespeare and a video game. So, the onanism of playstation becomes public spectacle, while the aesthetics of ritual theater decomposes in the psychedelia of a videogame.

Nel virtuale si esiste solo "uccidendo" la propria esistenza reale, soffocandola fino a trasformarla in un mero apparato che trasporta i sogni e le fantasie del proprio avatar. Si acquista una strana forma di vita eterna, di potenza sconfinata e minuscola allo stesso tempo. "Se io fossi piccolo come il grande Oceano....", recita Carmelo Bene. E l'amletico teschio diventa un pacchetto di informazioni digitali.
Nella performance gli strumenti più volgari alla base dell'interaction design e del digital entertainment vengono sottratti alla bulimia di stimolanti virtuali della generazione di second life e inseriti all'interno di una visione estetica tradizionale che attribuisce loro significati assolutamente nuovi.
Tecnicamente la performance ha previsto l'utilizzo di una webcam collegata ad un software che registra in tempo reale i miei movimenti associandoli a dei suoni e trasformando il mio corpo in un sintetizzatore. Nello stesso tempo la mia immagine, proiettata dal vivo sullo schermo alle mie spalle, interagisce con elementi grafici 3d in modo da ottenere una sorta di realtà aumentata. Il concept alla base della performance è il desiderio di creare una sorta di cortocircuito che contamina e morpha tra loro i due linguaggi apparentemente più lontani del mondo, Shakespeare e un videogame. Così l'onanismo autoreferenziale della playstation diventa spettacolo pubblico, mentre l'estetica rituale del teatro si decompone nella psichedelia del videogame.

The families still live on the property, and the film offers a glimpse into their everyday life. It is not, however, the artist’s gaze that we follow, as Gullaksen hired a local, all-female crew to shoot the film. He applies this strategy in order to avoid an exoticising male gaze on the women being filmed and to provide unique access to their lives. The collaboration creates a technique for ‘imploding’ cultural differences related to geography, gender and modern versus traditional outloooks. In the beginning the film resembles conventional ethnographic moviemaking, as we follow the residents over the course of one day. The next morning, however, we are introduced to the film’s lone voice, a physician who has chosen to adopt these people as his new family. For him, the area is a retreat where he can hide from what he calls the middle class’s mediocre and judgmental gaze. Referring to both western and Indian art, as well as the Bengali film director Satyajit Ray, the physician recounts his relationship to Clive House and the community around it.

In his films, Satyajit Ray demonstrated excellent command over film music. Besides working with maestros like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Vilayat Khan and Ali Akbar Khan, he himself took up writing lyrics, composing songs and music for many of his films, starting as early as the 60s. He is best known for his collaborations with Oscar-winning film director Satyajit Ray,with whom he worked in fourteen films, and his constant comparison with the Bengali cinema screen idol Uttam Kumar, his contemporary leading man of the 1960s and 1970s. Soumitra Chatterjee is also the first Indian film personality to be conferred with the Commandeur de l’ Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, France's highest award for artists. He is also the winner of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award which is India's highest award for cinema.
Satyajit Ray was an Indian Bengali filmmaker, widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. Ray was born in the city of Calcutta into a Bengali family prominent in the world of arts and literature. Starting his career as a commercial artist, Ray was drawn into independent filmmaking after meeting French filmmaker Jean Renoir and viewing Vittorio De Sica's Italian neorealist film Bicycle Thieves (1948) during a visit to London.
Ray directed 36 films, including feature films, documentaries and shorts. He was also a fiction writer, publisher, illustrator, calligrapher, music composer, graphic designer and film critic. He authored several short stories and novels, primarily aimed at children and adolescents. Feluda, the sleuth, and Professor Shonku, the scientist in his science fiction stories, are popular fictional characters created by him. He was awarded an honorary degree by Oxford University.
Ray's first film, Pather Panchali (1955), won eleven international prizes, including the inaugural Best Human Document award at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival. This film, along with Aparajito (1956), and Apur Sansar (The World of Apu) (1959) form The Apu Trilogy. Ray did the scripting, casting, scoring, and editing, and designed his own credit titles and publicity material. Ray received many major awards in his career, including 32 Indian National Film Awards, a Golden Lion, a Golden Bear, 2 Silver Bears, a number of additional awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies, and an Academy Honorary Award in 1992. The Government of India honored him with the Bharat Ratna, its highest civilian award, in 1992.

The movie is deceptively simple modern fable about a mysterious old man (Utpal Dutt), who comes to stay with a middle-class Calcutta family, claiming to be the wife's long-lost uncle, Manmohan Mitra. Anila (Mamata Shankar), the wife, wants to believe him, but her husband, Sudhindra (Deepankar De), has his doubts. The couple's young son, Satyaki (Bikram Bhattacharya), is enthralled by Manmohan's exotic tales of his magical adventures, which have taken him from New York to the jungles of the Amazon, and pretty much regards the whole thing as a game. As the family and their friends try to figure out who exactly he is, his very presence forces them to reflect on their own lives and identities. At the 1992 Indian National Film Awards, Agantuk won the awards for Best Feature Film and Best Directing, and the Special Jury Award went to Mamata Shankar for her portrayal of Anila.

Summary
The documentary details the life and work of the celebrated Bengali writer Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941). He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 "because of his profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse, by which, with consummate skill, he has made his poetic thought, expressed in his own English words, a part of the literature of the West." Rabindranath Tagore was the youngest son of Debendranath Tagore, born in Calcutta. He was educated at home. At seventeen he was sent to England for formal schooling, which he did not complete. Tagore was knighted by the ruling British Government in 1915, but within a few years he resigned the honor as a protest against British policies in India.
The documentary was made to celebrate Tagore's birth centenary in May 1961. Ray was conscious that he was making an official portrait of India's celebrated poet and hence the film does not include any controversial aspects of Tagore's life. However, it is far from being a propaganda film.
The film comprises dramatized episodes from the poet's life and archived images and documents.
Comments
The dramatized sequences of boy Rabi (Rabindranath Tagore) and young Tagore in his twenties are moving and lyrical. Ray has been reported to have said, "Ten or twelve minutes of it are among the most moving and powerful things that I have produced".

In his films, Satyajit Ray demonstrated excellent command over film music. Besides working with maestros like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Vilayat Khan and Ali Akbar Khan, he himself took up writing lyrics, composing songs and music for many of his films, starting as early as the 60s.
"Ray's music is imaginative, not melodramatic, balanced, not exuberant, functional, not decorative. It is music that grows from the film itself", says Utpalendu Chakraborty in his documentary The Music of Satyajit Ray (1984).
Based on interviews with Ray himself, and packed with clips from his films, rare-to-come-by footage of his music composing and recording sessions, the documentary by Utpalendu Chakrabarty follows Satyajit Ray's journey and philosophy as music director and music composer of his own films.
Utpalendu Chakrabarty was born in Calcutta in 1948. During his studies at the University of Calcutta he was active in communist student politics. After he graduated with a Masters in Modern History (1967), he worked as a teacher living with the tribal population in West Bengal, Bihar and Orissa for a few years. His first film was the 16-mm documentary Mukti Chai (1977), with which he campaigned for the release of political prisoners during the emergency period. His political films Chokh (1980) and the NFDC-produced Debshishu (1982) - are regarded among his best. Besides Satyajit Ray, he also made a documentary on the Bengali singer Debabrata Biswas - Gaan Amar Pore Paoa Dhan (1983). In the 1980s he was often working for the Indian television.

This is a video from my private collection that I had released on FaceBook 7 years ago!!! Pardon my bragging but I had to move heaven and earth to get it (and it is a long story for another day) and even the TV station where the interview took place circa 1977 did not have a copy and could not be bothered to look. Ray is interviewed here by Los Angeles movie critic Kevin Thomas who does come up with some good questions even though he doesn't seem especially familiar with Ray's milieu. For my international friends I would like to point out that Ray was as far a cry from "Bollywood" as could be imagined. First 2 minutes are a bit unstable but after that it is OK. Bengali film actor Soumitra Chaterjee speaks about Bengali film director Satyajit Ray at the sets of Apur Sansar. He says " Very first day the sequence happen to be in the labelling and bottling shop where Apu goes in search of a job. I was rather tensed I must confess because I never faced a camera before except for a purpose of camera test which Mr Ray took of me but then the shooting went of very smoothly and in fact there wasn't one NG at all. But before the first day shooting, I would like to say that Mr. ray really prepared me for that because I am very sure that he must have assess my potential before he selected me for a role."
Soumitra Chatterjee or Soumitra Chattopadhyay (Shoumitro Chôttopaddhae; born 19 January 1935) is an Indian Bengali film and stage actor and poet. He is best known for his collaborations with Oscar-winning film director Satyajit Ray,with whom he worked in fourteen films, and his constant comparison with the Bengali cinema screen idol Uttam Kumar, his contemporary leading man of the 1960s and 1970s. Soumitra Chatterjee is also the first Indian film personality to be conferred with the Commandeur de l’ Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, France's highest award for artists. He is also the winner of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award which is India's highest award for cinema.
Satyajit Ray was an Indian Bengali filmmaker, widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. Ray was born in the city of Calcutta into a Bengali family prominent in the world of arts and literature. Starting his career as a commercial artist, Ray was drawn into independent filmmaking after meeting French filmmaker Jean Renoir and viewing Vittorio De Sica's Italian neorealist film Bicycle Thieves (1948) during a visit to London.
Ray directed 36 films, including feature films, documentaries and shorts. He was also a fiction writer, publisher, illustrator, calligrapher, music composer, graphic designer and film critic. He authored several short stories and novels, primarily aimed at children and adolescents. Feluda, the sleuth, and Professor Shonku, the scientist in his science fiction stories, are popular fictional characters created by him. He was awarded an honorary degree by Oxford University.
Ray's first film, Pather Panchali (1955), won eleven international prizes, including the inaugural Best Human Document award at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival. This film, along with Aparajito (1956), and Apur Sansar (The World of Apu) (1959) form The Apu Trilogy. Ray did the scripting, casting, scoring, and editing, and designed his own credit titles and publicity material. Ray received many major awards in his career, including 32 Indian National Film Awards, a Golden Lion, a Golden Bear, 2 Silver Bears, a number of additional awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies, and an Academy Honorary Award in 1992. The Government of India honored him with the Bharat Ratna, its highest civilian award, in 1992.
