*** The ancient Greek astronomer and mathematician Ptolemy, and consider how and why his geocentric theory of the universe held sway for so many centuries. In his seminal astronomical work, the Almagest, written in the 2nd century AD, Ptolemy proposed that the Earth was at the centre of the universe and explained all the observed motions of the Sun, Moon, planets and stars with a system of uniform circular motions which he referred to as 'epicycles'. But Ptolemy was a polymath and did not confine his study of the stars to mathematical equations. The word "planet" comes from the Greek word "planetos" meaning wandering star (thus, unlike the Earth, in Ptolemy's model, the Sun and Moon were planets). Because of retrograde, for centuries unexplainable movements, the heavenly bodies in Ptolemy's model does not move by ellipses but rather by curves called epicycles.
This animation shows simplified Ptolemy's model of the Universe with Moon as a first, and Sun as a fourth planet orbiting around Earth. All planets except Moon and Sun are moving on epicycles whit their centres positioned on circles called deferent. Last sphere, after Saturn, is a sphere of Stars. In this particular figure, orbital periods are adjusted so they always draw the same path.

Alexander III (late July, 356 BC--June 10, 323 BC), commonly known as Alexander the Great, in Greek "Megas Alexandros", King of Macedon (336 BC-323 BC), was one of the most successful military commanders of the ancient world. Following the unification of the multiple city states of Ancient Greece under the rule of his father, Philip II of Macedon, Alexander conquered the Persian Empire, including Anatolia, Syria, Egypt, Bactria and Mesopotamia, and extended the boundaries of his own empire as far as India. Alexander integrated non-Greeks into his army and administration, leading some scholars to credit him with a "policy of fusion."

he Waldseemüller map, Universalis Cosmographia, is a printed wall map of the world by German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller, originally published in April 1507. It is known as the first map to use the name "America". Its main map, and his globe gores of the same date, depict the American continents in two pieces. These depictions differ from the small inset map in the top border, which shows the two American continents joined by an isthmus. The name America is placed on what is now called South America on the main map, this being the first map known to use this name. As explained in Cosmographiae Introductio, the name was bestowed in honor of the Italian Amerigo Vespucci. The map is drafted on a modification of Ptolemy's second projection, expanded to accommodate the Americas and the high latitudes.[1] A single copy of the map survives, presently housed at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The Ptolemy world map is a map of the world known to Hellenistic society in the 2nd century. It is based on the description contained in Ptolemy's book Geography, written c. 150. Based on an inscription in several of the earliest surviving manuscripts, it is traditionally credited to Agathodaemon of Alexandria. Perhaps the most significant contributions of Ptolemy's maps are the first uses of longitudinal and latitudinal lines as well as specifying terrestrial locations by celestial observations. The Geography was translated from Greek into Arabic in the 9th century and played a role in the work of al-Khwārizmī before lapsing into obscurity. The idea of a global coordinate system revolutionized European geographical thought, however, and inspired more mathematical treatment of cartography.
Ptolemy's work probably originally came with maps but none has been discovered. Instead, the present form of the map was reconstructed from Ptolemy's coördinates by Byzantine monks under the direction of Maximus Planudes shortly after 1295. It probably was not that of the original text, as it uses the less favored of the two alternate projections offered by Ptolemy.

The other famous classical theorem about cyclic quadrilaterals is due to the great Greek astronomer and mathematician, Claudius Ptolemy. Adopting a rational point of view, we need to rethink this theorem to state it in a purely algebraic way, without resort to `distances' and the corresponding infinite processes. Perhaps surprisingly, the Triple Quad Formula comes to our aid.
Once we have a rational formulation of this classical result, we can understand that it applies in considerable more generality than is usually supposed. We can interpret Ptolemy's theorem over a finite field--which we here introduce in a somewhat informal way, as well as over a relativistic planar geometry in the direction introduced by Einstein, and also Lorentz and Minkowski.
A wide new avenue of thought looms into view: that many classical results of Euclidean geometry, when formulated logically correctly without reference to the `completion of infinite processes', yield much more general and wide ranging results opening up many new areas of investigation!

These new episodes are intended to be a direct continuation of the 22-episode animated STAR TREK series produced by Filmation Associates from 1973-1974.

Claudius Ptolemy (
/ˈtɒləmi/; Greek: Κλαύδιος Πτολεμαῖος, Klaudios Ptolemaios; Latin: Claudius Ptolemaeus; c. AD 90 – c. AD 168), was a Greek-Roman citizen of Egypt who wrote in Greek. He was a mathematician, astronomer, geographer, astrologer, and poet of a single epigram in the Greek Anthology. He lived in Egypt under Roman rule, and is believed to have been born in the town of Ptolemais Hermiou in the Thebaid. This theory, proposed by Theodore Meliteniotes, could be correct, but it is late (ca. 1360) and unsupported. There is no reason to suppose that he ever lived anywhere else than Alexandria, where he died around AD 168.
Ptolemy was the author of several scientific treatises, at least three of which were of continuing importance to later Islamic and European science. The first is the astronomical treatise now known as the Almagest (in Greek, Ἡ Μεγάλη Σύνταξις, "The Great Treatise", originally Μαθηματικὴ Σύνταξις, "Mathematical Treatise"). The second is the Geography, which is a thorough discussion of the geographic knowledge of the Greco-Roman world. Richard David James (born 18 August 1971), best known under the pseudonym Aphex Twin, is a British electronic musician and composer. He founded the record label Rephlex Records in 1991 with Grant Wilson-Claridge. He was described by The Guardian as "the most inventive and influential figure in contemporary electronic music."

Alexander III of Macedon (20/21 July 356 – 10/11 June 323 BC), commonly known as Alexander the Great (Greek: Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Μέγας, Aléxandros ho Mégas from the Greek αλέξω alexo "to defend, help" + ανήρ aner "man"), was a king of Macedon, a state in northern ancient Greece. Born in Pella in 356 BC, Alexander was tutored by Aristotle until the age of 16. By the age of thirty, he had created one of the largest empires of the ancient world, stretching from the Ionian Sea to the Himalayas. He was undefeated in battle and is considered one of history's most successful commanders.
Alexander succeeded his father, Philip II of Macedon, to the throne in 336 BC after Philip was assassinated. Upon Philip's death, Alexander inherited a strong kingdom and an experienced army. He was awarded the generalship of Greece and used this authority to launch his father's military expansion plans. In 334 BC, he invaded Persian-ruled Asia Minor and began a series of campaigns that lasted ten years. Alexander broke the power of Persia in a series of decisive battles, most notably the battles of Issus and Gaugamela. He subsequently overthrew the Persian King Darius III and conquered the entirety of the Persian Empire. At that point, his empire stretched from the Adriatic Sea to the Indus River.

Plot: With the assassination of his rowdy and bawdy father King Philip in 336 BC, Alexander gathers up his Home-Boy Macedonians (30,000 or so) and crosses the Hellespont to strike Darius and the Persian Horde. The Persians, of course, torched the Acropolis three generations earlier. The Greeks (and Macedonians) never forgot. During his herculean 12-year odyssey, Alexander succeeds in creating a world empire from the Danube to the Indus. Ever the glorious conqueror, he shows not only military genius, but compassion for the conquered. Alexander's women (aside from his mother Olympias) include his life-long consort, Barsine, who takes him on erotic / chemical "trips". There is also Roxanne, the Bactrian princess / wannabe dancer, his possessive first wife and True Love. His second marriage to Stateira, Darius' clueless daughter, doesn't set well with Roxanne, which starts the tragic time-clock ticking. Roxanne opts into a regime-changing scenario-- orchestrated back in Athens by Demosthenes and Macedonian rivals.

Coincidentally, he also discovers that the lighter contains a Hippopotamus Genie who is willing to grant his wish. The Hippo of the Zippo tells him that in order to get the girl, he must enter the underworld and break the Elephant's Egg at the Sparkling Sea. So Joe and Ptolemy set off on a journey through a Dali painting to win back the girl.

Instead, the present form of the map was reconstructed from Ptolemy's coördinates by Byzantine monks under the direction of Maximus Planudes shortly after 1295. Ptolemy I Soter I (Ancient Greek: Πτολεμαῖος Σωτήρ, Ptolemaĩos Sōtḗr, i.e. Ptolemy (pronounced /ˈtɒləmi/) the Savior), also known as Ptolemy Lagides, c. 367 BC – c. 283 BC, was a Macedonian general under Alexander the Great, who became ruler of Egypt (323–283 BC) and founder of both the Ptolemaic Kingdom and the Ptolemaic Dynasty. In 305/4 BC he demanded the title of pharaoh.

The other famous classical theorem about cyclic quadrilaterals is due to the great Greek astronomer and mathematician, Claudius Ptolemy. Adopting a rational point of view, we need to rethink this theorem to state it in a purely algebraic way, without resort to `distances' and the corresponding infinite processes. Perhaps surprisingly, the Triple Quad Formula comes to our aid.
Once we have a rational formulation of this classical result, we can understand that it applies in considerable more generality than is usually supposed. We can interpret Ptolemy's theorem over a finite field--which we here introduce in a somewhat informal way, as well as over a relativistic planar geometry in the direction introduced by Einstein, and also Lorentz and Minkowski.
A wide new avenue of thought looms into view: that many classical results of Euclidean geometry, when formulated logically correctly without reference to the `completion of infinite processes', yield much more general and wide ranging results opening up many new areas of investigation!

Ptolemy’s astronomical studies were the foundation of his ideas about mapmaking.
For some forty years he made the astronomical observations which are the basis for the Syntaxis, which has since become more commonly known as the Almagest, Arabic for “The Greatest.” This book is the synthesis of Ptolemy’s scientific theories about the universe, where a spherical earth resided in the center of a spherical heaven. Ptolemy rejected the idea that the earth turned on its axis. In Brown’s words: “He admitted that it was a convenient explanation of the behavior of the heavens, but nevertheless ridiculous” (Brown, 1979, 59). We should not laugh too much. Many centuries later we still say that the sun “rises” in the morning and “sets” in the evening, just as it was thought to do in Ptolemy’s view of the universe!
Ptolemy’s studies in astronomy led to his principles for mapping on a precise framework. Identifying particular star locations as points on a grid requires the same techniques that are used in mapping the earth. The Almagest includes instructions for making a celestial globe with a system of coordinates (grid) for 1,022 stars, and the identification of 48 constellations. Further, Ptolemy proposed a system of dividing the 360 degrees of the globe further into the “minutae primae” and “minutae secundae” that became our minutes and seconds. The principles laid down in the Almagest are fundamental to mapping the earth, and it is significant that Ptolemy wrote the Geographia after he had completed the Almagest (Dilke 1987, 183).
No manuscript copy of the Almagest dating earlier than the twelfth century is known, when a Greek manuscript of it was translated into Latin by Gerard of Cremona (Dilke 1987, 177). At the time it seems to have evinced little notice by scholars.

Toronto and an expert on inversion geometry. "I can't think of any," he
said. "A rocket flight, an eclipse, a Foucault pendulum, a Coriolis
effect -- any observation we can make on the outside of the earth has an
exact duplicate version inside. There would be no way to tell which was
the truth."
Just as the geometry of space inverts, so do all the laws of
physics. Toward the center of a hollow Earth, light slows down and
everything shrinks -- atoms, astronauts, spaceships, and measuring rods.
Light travels in circular paths, producing some weird (but lawful)
optical effects. Astronauts on the moon looked back on what they
thought was a blue sphere in the distance. Actually it was the inside
of the earth's shell, throught sight lines that flared like the bell of
a trumpet, producing the *illusion* of a sphere. The optical distortion
is something like the wide angle view through a fisheye lens.
As we look to the sky and the horizons, our visual field is filled with a sphere some 4,000 miles in diameter. Celestial bodies that revolve around the earth's center appear to "rise" and "set" as they enter or leave that sphere.

For now I'm just gonna leave everything as it is but please check out my other uploads, especially the newer ones, before dismissing all of my content. Blue Murder - Ptolemy (1989)
Blue Murder were an English heavy rock -metal band, founded by ex-Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy guitarist John Sykes. The original 1988 lineup of the band, also included ex-The Firm bass player Tony Franklin and drummer Cozy Powell (although he was almost immediately replaced by Carmine Appice). Ptolemy is a great track from their first ST 1989 album that was produced by Bob Rock.

Alexander the Great is one of the most famous people in the world history. Many myths and legends surround the - allegedly buried in Alexandria - ruler. Baghdad Djillali Difallah, a French researcher, recently discovered the real grave of Alexander. However, not in Egypt but in the Kingdom of Jordan!
This is one of the biggest history sensations of the last decades. That there is a global media blackout on this discovery, despite a press conference, is food for thoughts in many ways. In the latest edition of the popular show "In the footsteps of our history" he gives the ExtremeNews-team an exclusive interview and shows photographs from the inside of the magnificent mausoleum.
According to tradition, Alexander the Great (or Alexander III of Macedonia) was born on July 20 - 356 BC in Pella and died on June 10 - 323 BC in Babylon. From 336 BC until his death, he was King of Macedonia and Hegemon of the League of Corinth.
As one can read on Wikipedia, it is presumed that Alexander’s grave had been moved from Memphis to Alexandria where a magnificent tomb had been built for him. This tomb has been replaced by King Ptolemy IV, who was like all Diadochi appealed to Alexander's model, by a new mausoleum which would serve as a tomb for the Ptolemaic royal line. So far the assumptions. Again according to the free encyclopaedia, many localization attempts have been made since the 18th century. All have failed so far.
Difallah commented as follows on this hypothesis : "The archaeologists have focused too much on Alexandria but no one found his grave in Alexandria. There are so many buildings so it could only have been by accident if they found it there. One should not forget that there were two tsunamis in Alexandria who destroyed the Pharos, counting about 50,000 deaths. It is my opinion first of all that he was never buried there and the second thing is: as the nominated bishop of Alexandria arrived, he asked the residents of Alexandria to show him where is Alexander’s grave but no one knew where it was! That would be as if someone asks in Paris for the Arc de Triomphe and nobody would know about it. And then I knew: he is not there! "
As a specialist of ancient cartography, Difallah researched for 15 years in private libraries, for example in Dusseldorf as well as in the National Library of Paris and studied Alexander the Great. Originally his research was focused on the Ark of the Covenant which is mentioned by the Bible and other religions, and is seemingly also connected to Alexander.
Difallah: "There are certain maps that are interpreted wrongly by the archaeologists. I found him thus next to Amman in Jordan. Amman is 3,000 years old and was called Rabbath-Ammon, the capital of the Decapolis. This was ignored by archaeologists..."
On July 23, 2013, Difallah presented at a press conference at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris his impressive discovery that he made already three years earlier. A discovery representing in his eyes the "greatest archaeological treasure of all time". The tomb contains besides the glorious golden sarcophagus and a stunning amount of golden statues and –vessels also diamonds and gold bars. This all will be discussed more detailed in the film, proved by photos and videos which are shown partly. In addition, there should be in the necropolis. In addition to a live-sized golden chariot, walls made of pure gold and other treasures, a library is located in the necropolis containing engraved copper plates weighing several hundred kilos.
Apparently, it is not "only" the body of Alexander which is buried in this gigantic grave. Difallah has visited two levels of the necropolis and counted 18 heads. On the first level alone - a kind of duplex - there are 12 niches. In these niches were the bodies of kings placed. He believes that the mausoleum of Ptolemy I Soter and even the entrance to the whole bloodline of Ptolemy can be found inside and possibly also the mausoleum of Cleopatra.
The exact location is not revealed by the discoverer, he leaves this to King Abdullah II of Jordan, who to date keeps this undisclosed. Difallah: "It would be awesome if they open the grave, all the other Arab countries should support the Kingdom of Jordan, in order to protect this unique heritage - it is unique - it is, after all, the grave of Alexander the Great - and that's not just anybody! !"

In the latest edition of the popular show "In the footsteps of our history" he gives the ExtremeNews-team an exclusive interview and shows photographs from the inside of the magnificent mausoleum.
According to tradition, Alexander the Great (or Alexander III of Macedonia) was born on July 20 - 356 BC in Pella and died on June 10 - 323 BC in Babylon. From 336 BC until his death, he was King of Macedonia and Hegemon of the League of Corinth.
As one can read on Wikipedia, it is presumed that Alexander’s grave had been moved from Memphis to Alexandria where a magnificent tomb had been built for him. This tomb has been replaced by King Ptolemy IV, who was like all Diadochi appealed to Alexander's model, by a new mausoleum which would serve as a tomb for the Ptolemaic royal line. So far the assumptions. Again according to the free encyclopaedia, many localization attempts have been made since the 18th century. All have failed so far.
Difallah commented as follows on this hypothesis : "The archaeologists have focused too much on Alexandria but no one found his grave in Alexandria. There are so many buildings so it could only have been by accident if they found it there. One should not forget that there were two tsunamis in Alexandria who destroyed the Pharos, counting about 50,000 deaths. It is my opinion first of all that he was never buried there and the second thing is: as the nominated bishop of Alexandria arrived, he asked the residents of Alexandria to show him where is Alexander’s grave but no one knew where it was! That would be as if someone asks in Paris for the Arc de Triomphe and nobody would know about it. And then I knew: he is not there! "
As a specialist of ancient cartography, Difallah researched for 15 years in private libraries, for example in Dusseldorf as well as in the National Library of Paris and studied Alexander the Great. Originally his research was focused on the Ark of the Covenant which is mentioned by the Bible and other religions, and is seemingly also connected to Alexander.
Difallah: "There are certain maps that are interpreted wrongly by the archaeologists. I found him thus next to Amman in Jordan. Amman is 3,000 years old and was called Rabbath-Ammon, the capital of the Decapolis. This was ignored by archaeologists..."
On July 23, 2013, Difallah presented at a press conference at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris his impressive discovery that he made already three years earlier. A discovery representing in his eyes the "greatest archaeological treasure of all time". The tomb contains besides the glorious golden sarcophagus and a stunning amount of golden statues and –vessels also diamonds and gold bars. This all will be discussed more detailed in the film, proved by photos and videos which are shown partly. In addition, there should be in the necropolis. In addition to a live-sized golden chariot, walls made of pure gold and other treasures, a library is located in the necropolis containing engraved copper plates weighing several hundred kilos.
Apparently, it is not "only" the body of Alexander which is buried in this gigantic grave. Difallah has visited two levels of the necropolis and counted 18 heads. On the first level alone - a kind of duplex - there are 12 niches. In these niches were the bodies of kings placed. He believes that the mausoleum of Ptolemy I Soter and even the entrance to the whole bloodline of Ptolemy can be found inside and possibly also the mausoleum of Cleopatra.
The exact location is not revealed by the discoverer, he leaves this to King Abdullah II of Jordan, who to date keeps this undisclosed. Difallah: "It would be awesome if they open the grave, all the other Arab countries should support the Kingdom of Jordan, in order to protect this unique heritage - it is unique - it is, after all, the grave of Alexander the Great - and that's not just anybody! !"
