Before I wrote the music for "Iphigenia" I was quite involved in the preparations for the film, as Cacoyiannis had asked for some pieces of music to which he would shoot the film.
It was a difficult work, from the point of view that I had to render the atmosphere of war with hundreds of extras. I think it was the first time in the Greek cinema that there was such a convincing depiction of the Greeks of that time.
For the film I used basic symphonic instruments, in an effort to elicit the sound I wanted and which were appropriate for the film's distinctive mood.
I consider this music as one of the best pieces I have written for the cinema.

Πριν γράψω την μουσική για την Ιφιγένεια ασχολήθηκα πολύ με την προετοιμασία του έργου, δεδομένου ότι ο Κακογιάννης μου ζήτησε ορισμένες μουσικές, πάνω στις οποίες εκείνος θα έκανε τις λήψεις της εικόνας.

Antes da Guerra de Troia, quando as tropas Achaean estavam se preparando para navegar de Aulis com destino a Troy, a ausência de vento retido mil navios gregos no porto. Um adivinho revelou que Artemis, a deusa da caça, ficou furioso porque os gregos haviam matado um dos animais que ela protegidos. A única maneira de apaziguar a deusa e obter ventos favoráveis para velejar era sacrificar Ifigênia, filha de Agamemnon, que estava perdido em um conflito moral trágico.

Michalis Kakoyannis was a prominent Greek filmmaker from Cyprus, best known for his film ''Zorba the Greek'' (1964). Much of his work was rooted in classical texts, especially those of the Greek tragedian Euripides. He was nominated for an Academy Award five times, a record for any Greek Cypriot film artist. He received Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film nominations for ''Zorba the Greek'' and two nominations in the Foreign Language Film category for ''Electra'' and ''Iphigenia''.

This is the third film from the first half of "Iphigenia in Tauris", a dance theatre work presented by the Northeast Academy of Dance (NEAD) in Oscoda,MI. The idea was conceived and edited by NEAD co-director Scott Heinrich, filmed by Walter Zamorano. The film features Heinrich as Pylades, Kula Batangan as Orestes, NEAD students Ben Berenkowski, Jessica Cummings, Mackenzie Decker, Samantha Miller, Megan Pintar and local business owners from the Oscoda and Tawas area.
During the program, this film featured live narration. Here's the story n a nutshell:
Orestes is being driven to madness by the Furies. He consults with the god Apollo for help. He prescribes seeking out a statue of Diana that was stolen from the temple - and bring your strong friend Pylades (Pilates - har - har!). Together, they begin their journey but eventually hit a whirlpool that sends them to a strange new land - Michigan. After experiencing many new things (especially food) they find that this new culture might not quite be ready for them and vice-versa, so they head back. This is how they eventually end up on the shores of Tauris.

He also adds new characters who were not present, but who were mentioned, in the original play, Odysseus and Calchas, to further the plot and voice certain themes.

Iphigenia (
/ɪfɨdʒɨˈnaɪ.ə/; Ancient Greek: Ἰφιγένεια, Iphigeneia) is a daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra in Greek mythology. In Attic accounts, her name means "strong-born", "born to strength", or "she who causes the birth of strong offspring."
Artemis punished Agamemnon after he killed a deer in a sacred grove and boasted he was the better hunter. On their way to Troy to participate in the Trojan War, Agamemnon's ships were suddenly motionless, as Artemis stopped the wind in Aulis (ancient Greece). The soothsayer, Calchas, revealed an oracle that appeased Artemis, so that the Achaean fleet could sail. This much is in Homer, who does not discuss the aspect of this episode in which other writers explain that the only way to appease Artemis was to sacrifice Iphigenia to her. According to the earliest versions he did so, but other sources claim that Iphigenia was taken by Artemis to Tauris in Crimea to prepare others for sacrifice, and that the goddess left a deer or a goat (the god Pan transformed) in her place. The Hesiodic Catalogue of Women called her Iphimede (Ἰφιμέδη) and told that Artemis transformed her into the goddess Hecate.Antoninus Liberalis said that Iphigenia was transported to the island of Leuke, where she was wedded to immortalized Achilles under the name of Orsilochia.

The viewer cannot see the flickering between frames due to an effect known as persistence of vision, whereby the eye retains a visual image for a fraction of a second after the source has been removed. Viewers perceive motion due to a psychological effect called beta movement.

This is the third film from the first half of "Iphigenia in Tauris", a dance theatre work presented by the Northeast Academy of Dance (NEAD) in Oscoda,MI. The idea was conceived and edited by NEAD co-director Scott Heinrich, filmed by Walter Zamorano. The film features Heinrich as Pylades, Kula Batangan as Orestes, NEAD students Ben Berenkowski, Jessica Cummings, Mackenzie Decker, Samantha Miller, Megan Pintar and local business owners from the Oscoda and Tawas area. During the program, this film featured live narration. Here's the story n a nutshell: Orestes is being driven to madness by the Furies. He consults with the god Apollo for help. He prescribes seeking out a statue of Diana that was stolen from the temple - and bring your strong friend Pylades (Pilates - har - har!). Together, they begin their journey but eventually hit a whirlpool that sends them to a strange new land - Michigan. After experiencing many new things (especially food) they find that this new culture might not quite be ready for them and vice-versa, so they head back. This is how they eventually end up on the shores of Tauris. -

Anna-Lena Laurin's orchestral work, Iphigenia, commissioned by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, had its world premiere together with globally renowned artists: Anders Bergcrantz, Richie Beirach, and Thomas Sondergard. Iphigenia in Tauris - Pylades' Journey to Rescue Orestes
This is the first movie from the second part, of the Northeast Academy of Dance (NEAD) Production "Iphigenia in Tauris". The movie features Director Scott Heinrich as well as students from the Academy. Video clips were shot by Walter Zamorano and the editing was done by Scott Heinrich. It is my hope that Euripides would have, and viewers will have, a sense of humor about this short film.

Before I wrote the music for "Iphigenia" I was quite involved in the preparations for the film, as Cacoyiannis had asked for some pieces of music to which he would shoot the film.
It was a difficult work, from the point of view that I had to render the atmosphere of war with hundreds of extras. I think it was the first time in the Greek cinema that there was such a convincing depiction of the Greeks of that time.
For the film I used basic symphonic instruments, in an effort to elicit the sound I wanted and which were appropriate for the film's distinctive mood.
I consider this music as one of the best pieces I have written for the cinema.

Πριν γράψω την μουσική για την Ιφιγένεια ασχολήθηκα πολύ με την προετοιμασία του έργου, δεδομένου ότι ο Κακογιάννης μου ζήτησε ορισμένες μουσικές, πάνω στις οποίες εκείνος θα έκανε τις λήψεις της εικόνας.

A única maneira de apaziguar a deusa e obter ventos favoráveis para velejar era sacrificar Ifigênia, filha de Agamemnon, que estava perdido em um conflito moral trágico.

Before I wrote the music for "Iphigenia" I was quite involved in the preparations for the film, as Cacoyiannis had asked for some pieces of music to which he would shoot the film.
It was a difficult work, from the point of view that I had to render the atmosphere of war with hundreds of extras. I think it was the first time in the Greek cinema that there was such a convincing depiction of the Greeks of that time.
For the film I used basic symphonic instruments, in an effort to elicit the sound I wanted and which were appropriate for the film's distinctive mood.
I consider this music as one of the best pieces I have written for the cinema.

This is the third film from the first half of "Iphigenia in Tauris", a dance theatre work presented by the Northeast Academy of Dance (NEAD) in Oscoda,MI. The idea was conceived and edited by NEAD co-director Scott Heinrich, filmed by Walter Zamorano. The film features Heinrich as Pylades, Kula Batangan as Orestes, NEAD students Ben Berenkowski, Jessica Cummings, Mackenzie Decker, Samantha Miller, Megan Pintar and local business owners from the Oscoda and Tawas area.
During the program, this film featured live narration. Here's the story n a nutshell:
Orestes is being driven to madness by the Furies. He consults with the god Apollo for help. He prescribes seeking out a statue of Diana that was stolen from the temple - and bring your strong friend Pylades (Pilates - har - har!). Together, they begin their journey but eventually hit a whirlpool that sends them to a strange new land - Michigan. After experiencing many new things (especially food) they find that this new culture might not quite be ready for them and vice-versa, so they head back. This is how they eventually end up on the shores of Tauris.

Before I wrote the music for "Iphigenia" I was quite involved in the preparations for the film, as Cacoyiannis had asked for some pieces of music to which he would shoot the film.
It was a difficult work, from the point of view that I had to render the atmosphere of war with hundreds of extras. I think it was the first time in the Greek cinema that there was such a convincing depiction of the Greeks of that time.
For the film I used basic symphonic instruments, in an effort to elicit the sound I wanted and which were appropriate for the film's distinctive mood.
I consider this music as one of the best pieces I have written for the cinema.

The movie features Director Scott Heinrich as well as students from the Academy. Video clips were shot by Walter Zamorano and the editing was done by Scott Heinrich. It is my hope that Euripides would have, and viewers will have, a sense of humor about this short film.

A história de Krull se passa no planeta Krull (nome tema do filme), onde dois reis não muito amigos decidem unir seus dois filhos em casamento, Colwyn e Lyssa, porém, durante a cerimônia de matrimônio, o castelo em que estão é invadido pelos Assassinos (Slayers, no original), criaturas servas da Besta, que sequestram a princesa Lyssa e a levam para seu mestre, a Besta, que pretende desposá-la. The Greek fleet is waiting at Aulis, Boeotia, with its ships ready to sail for Troy, but it is unable to depart due to a strange lack of wind. After consulting the seer Calchas, the Greek leaders learn that this is no mere meteorological abnormality but rather the will of the goddess Artemis, who is withholding the winds because Agamemnon has caused her offense. Calchas informs the general that in order to appease the goddess, he must sacrifice his eldest daughter, Iphigenia. Agamemnon, in spite of his horror, must consider this seriously because his assembled troops, who have been waiting on the beach and are increasingly restless, may rebel if their bloodlust is not satisfied. He sends a message to his wife, Clytemnestra, telling her to send Iphigenia to Aulis on the pretext that the girl is to be married to the Greek warrior Achilles before he sets off to fight. Written between 408, after the Oresteia, and 406 BC, the year of Euripides' death, the play was first produced the following year in a trilogy with The Bacchae and Alcmaeon in Corinth by his son or nephew, Euripides the Younger, and won the first place at the Athenian city Dionysia. The play revolves around Agamemnon.
