Sweden (i/ˈswiːdən/ SWEE-dən; Swedish: Sverige [ˈsvæːrjə] listen ), officially the Kingdom of Sweden (Swedish: Konungariket Sverige ), is a Scandinavian country in Northern Europe. It borders Norway to the west and Finland to the east, and is connected to Denmark in the southwest by a bridge-tunnel across the Öresund. At 450,295 square kilometres (173,860 sq mi), Sweden is the third-largest country in the European Union by area, with a total population of over 9.8 million. Sweden consequently has a low population density of 21 inhabitants per square kilometre (54/sq mi), with the highest concentration in the southern half of the country. Approximately 85% of the population lives in urban areas. Southern Sweden is predominantly agricultural, while the north is heavily forested. Sweden is part of the geographical area of Fennoscandia.
Germanic peoples have inhabited Sweden since prehistoric times, emerging into history as the Geats/Götar and Swedes/Svear and constituting the sea peoples known as the Norsemen. Sweden emerged as an independent and unified country during the Middle Ages. In the 17th century, it expanded its territories to form the Swedish Empire, which became one of the great powers of Europe until the early 18th century. Swedish territories outside the Scandinavian Peninsula were gradually lost during the 18th and 19th centuries, beginning with the annexation of present-day Finland by Russia in 1809. The last war in which Sweden was directly involved was in 1814, when Norway was militarily forced into personal union.
An urban area is a location characterized by high human population density and vast human-built features in comparison to the areas surrounding it. Urban areas may be cities, towns or conurbations, but the term is not commonly extended to rural areas such as villages and hamlets.
The world's urban population in 1950 of just 746 million has soared in the decades since. In 2009, the number of people living in urban areas (3.42 billion) surpassed the number living in rural areas (3.41 billion) and since then the world has become more urban than rural. This was the first time that the majority of the world's population lived in a city. In 2014 there were 7.25 billion people living on the planet, of which the global urban population comprised 3.9 billion. The Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs at that time predicted the urban population would grow to 6.4 billion by 2050, with 37% of that growth to come from three countries: China, India and Nigeria.

In this episode i am going back to the old dairy factory in Örebro / Sweden. This old building wil soon be a parking house for all the apartments they build in this area. There was some Realy scary moments while i was in this place. the two first floors was completely pitch black so my fantasy started to spinn. while on the second floor i heard two metal bangs. there was only me there and there is no chanse that any one else could have been there. I am a amateur Urban Explorer from sweden who looks for abandoned places around my area. if anyone know any cool places just send me a PM or a mail. A great marketing video of the Swedish Air Force Saab JAS 39 Gripen the most feared military aircraft in Sweden. The Saab JAS 39 Gripen (griffin) is a lightweight single-engine multirole fighter manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab. It was designed to replace the Saab 35 Draken and 37 Viggen in the Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet). The Gripen has a delta wing and canard configuration with relaxed stability design and fly-by-wire technology. It is powered by the Volvo-Flygmotor RM12 engine, a derivative of the General Electric F404, and has a top speed of Mach 2. Later aircraft are equipped for in-flight refuelling; most of the export aircraft have been designed to be compatible with NATO interoperability standards. In 1979, the Swedish government began development studies for ...

Sweden was among the pioneers of the Modern Movement in Architecture and Town Planning of the 1950s and 60s. Several urban areas were built or redeveloped under this banner among which are the iconic Vällingby and Farsta. Despite the fact that many of the resultant modern urban areas in Sweden are still flourishing with ever increasing property values, there have been criticisms from various quarters, about the quality of the areas. As such, planning and design of recent new urban areas have tended to move away from the Modernist approach to emerging alternative urban design and planning models, among which is the New Urbanist Model. The latter borrows from the past and advocates for among others less priority to vehicular traffic; walkability; affordable housing; new classical, post-moder...
Malmö is the capital and most populous city in Skåne County, and the third largest city in Sweden. Together with Copenhagen, it constitutes the transnational Øresund Region, the most densely populated area in Scandinavia. Malmö was one of the earliest and most industrialized towns of Scandinavia, but it struggled with the adaptation to post-industrialism. Since the construction of the Øresund Bridge, Malmö has undergone a major transformation with architectural developments, and it has attracted new biotech and IT companies, and particularly students through Malmö University, founded in 1998. The city contains many historic buildings and parks, and is also a commercial centre for the western part of Scania. The total population of the urban area was 280,415 in December 2010.

Unusually clean, fresh air, dense, dark green pine forests, sparkling lakes among seemingly endless forests, bright blue sky, wide rivers, green grass in contrast with red-painted houses with white doors and window-frames… That’s Sweden. Vast free landscapes where mass of flowers bloom in May and trees glitter in unrealistic colors in September. Among the plains, the lakes and the hills ancient cities are located: the red-bricked Malmö, the port Gothenburg, the medieval Ystad, Helsingör and Helsingborg, and the university town Uppsala which is always full of life. Stockholm, built between Lake Malaren and Baltic Sea, rivals any European capital city. Near to it, there are castles which enchant the travellers, for instance Skokloster Castle or Gripsholm Castle. -------------- Watch more tr...

Travel video about destination Stockholm in Sweden. Stockholm is a city that floats on water, the 'Venice of the North' was built on 14 islands. Gamla Stan, or 'Old Town', is the name of the city's three central islands that are linked by numerous bridges. Its ambience is that of the Middle Ages and small and mysterious alleys and beautiful buildings that date back to the 7th century characterize the life of the traders who once lived there. The old town's most dominant building is the royal castle of Kungliga Slottet. Larger than London's Buckingham Palace, it contains 608 rooms. The Stadshuset is one of the city's landmarks and was designed in Medieval style eith a tower that is almost 106 metres tall. The Railway from Sweden’s Luleå northwest to Narvik in Norway runs mostly north of the Arctic Circle. While iron ore trains are usually associated with ugly mining sites, these, Europe’s heaviest, roll through endless pine forest, past towns of heritage site merit, lonely stations and through the virtually unspoilt scenery of the Abisko National Park and Norwegian Fjords. Veteran Siderod electrics operating alongside the new IORE giants under a midsummer night sun on the northern horizon further complete a perfect blend for classic railway entertainment! -------------- Watch more travel videos ► http://goo.gl/HYQdhg Join us. Travel video about destination Göta Kanal in Sweden. The Göta Canal is Sweden's construction of the millennium and connects Kattegatt on the west coast with the east coast of the Baltic Sea, and is the main waterway through Sweden, from Gothenburg to Stockholm. Gothenburg is a seaport that was founded in 1621 and on Packhus Quay, close to both the Maritime Centre and the Opera, the Wilhelm Tham on which we shall travel across Sweden, awaits us. Shortly before Trollhättan our first adventure begins as the boat ascends within a masterpiece of canal design. Over a short distance, six lock systems built in a row overcome a height difference of forty four metres. One lock after the other opens up, and the inflow of water raises the boat to the next level. Our journey leads into the Bottensjön...

Acknowledging that cities have a vital effect on the global environment, Stellan Fryxell will be discussing the need for a holistic approach to sustainable urbanism. Cities cover roughly 2% if the Earth's land but use 75% of all energy an emit 80% of all carbon dioxide. Society has to "rethink cities" through evolving resource efficiency in cities with increased focus on planning and designing attractive areas. Stellan Fryxell believes urban challenges can be turned into opportunities and he will demonstrate this through Stockholm's largest urban development project: Hammarby Sjöstad. This district has its own eco-cycle, the Hammarby Model, which outlines environmental solutions for buildings, traffic, waste, energy, water and sewage. The model is predicated on a strong Swedish tradition o...
