Capri (/kəˈpriː/; Italian pronunciation: [ˈkaːpri]) is an island located in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the south side of the Gulf of Naples in the Campania region of Italy. The main town Capri that is located on the island shares the name. It has been a resort since the time of the Roman Republic.
Some of the main features of the island include the following: the Marina Piccola (the little harbour), the Belvedere of Tragara (a high panoramic promenade lined with villas), the limestone crags called sea stacks that project above the sea (the Faraglioni), the town of Anacapri, the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), and the ruins of the Imperial Roman villas.
Capri is part of the region of Campania, Province of Naples. The town of Capri is the island's main population centre. The island has two harbours, Marina Piccola and Marina Grande (the main port of the island). The separate comune of Anacapri is located high on the hills to the west.
The etymology of the name Capri is unclear; it might either be traced back to the Ancient Greeks (Ancient Greek κάπρος kapros meaning "wild boar"), the first recorded colonists to populate the island. But it could also derive from Latin capreae (goats). Fossils of wild boars have been discovered, lending credence to the "kapros" etymology; on the other hand, the Romans called Capri "goat island". Finally, there is also the possibility that the name derives from an Etruscan word for "rocky", though any historical Etruscan rule of the island is disputed.

We share with you our travel tips when we travelled to Positano Italy & Capri on the beautiful Amalfi Coast, in October 2016. One of my favourite places and only 2 hours flight from London! October was a perfect time to travel to Positano & Capri due to minimal tourists and great weather. We recommend getting a taxi to Positano. Alternatives are a ferry or 3 buses! We stayed at Casa Cosenza ( which had views to feed your imagination) There are two beaches in Positano. Grande spiaggia or Fornillo beach (latter is less busier) Recommend a day trip to Capri and Anacapri for postcard views & best gelato in town. I loved Garden Augustus.
When traveling to southern Italy, one must see is the Island of Capri, a simple 40 minute boat ride from Naples Italy, or Napoli. We hope to show you a quick look at what to expect during your travels. 1. Fly to Naples Italy 2. Take a taxi to the "Porto", but negotiate the rate first or make sure the cab driver doesn't hide the meter, Say "turn on the meter". 3. Once at the port purchase a ticket from "SNAV" to Capri. It can be hard to find but look for "Capri" on the ticket window then the word SNAV. 4. Once in Capri, give your bags to the "Porter" and tell them what hotel you are at. 5. We recommend "La Minerva" hotel, small, quite and ridiculously good customer service from Antonia, Luigi, and Marco. 6. Then Go the the arch that says "Funiculare"... that's the cable car up to the "Squar...
http://www.woltersworld.com The Isle of Capri off of the Amalfi Coast near Naples, Italy is an awe inspiring place. With the world famous Blue Grotto (you can see inside in our www.youtube.com/woltersdestinations site), taking the chair lift up to Monte Solaro for amazing views, the ruins of Villa Jovis and the cliff where emperors' no longer liked subjects were tossed from, to the small towns, Capri and Anacapri, the island has a lot for you to see and enjoy. It is pricey to get there. Look to spend about 100 Euros just getting from Sorrento to the Isle of Capri and then seeing the Blue Grotto. That is just for transport, no food or drink included here. But it is a great place to check out. Filmed in Anacapri on the Isle of Capri, Italy.
