Fox News Channel

Fox News Channel (FNC), also known as Fox News, is an American basic cable and satellite news television channel that is owned by the Fox Entertainment Group subsidiary of 21st Century Fox. As of February 2015, approximately 94,700,000 American households (81.4% of cable, satellite & telco customers) receive the Fox News Channel. The channel broadcasts primarily from studios at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, New York City, New York. .

The channel was created by Australian-American media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who hired former Republican Party media consultant and NBC executive Roger Ailes as its founding CEO. It launched on October 7, 1996, to 17 million cable subscribers. It grew during the late 1990s and 2000s to become the dominant cable news network in the United States.

Fox News Channel has been accused of biased reporting and promoting the Republican Party. The channel has also been cited as detrimental to the integrity of news overall. Fox News Channel employees have responded that news reporting operates independently of its opinion and entertainment, and have denied bias in news reporting.

Sister Sledge

Sister Sledge is an American musical group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Formed in 1971, the group was originally composed of sisters Debbie, Joni, Kathy and Kim Sledge. With Kathy leaving in 1989 the group have since operated as a trio (with Kathy occasionally re-joining for one-off performances and several releases in the 1990s). Having enjoyed marginal success in Europe during the middle of the decade, mainstream success was achieved when breakthrough album We Are Family was released in 1979.

Symbolizing strong family values, the siblings became global superstars at the height of the disco era. The group is mostly known for the anthem, "We Are Family" and hit songs "He's the Greatest Dancer", "Lost in Music", their version of "My Guy", and "Frankie". Still performing energetic stage shows and producing music today, Sister Sledge performed for Pope Francis in Philadelphia, PA IN September 2015. The group have performed in six of the world's seven continents.

Background

Daughters of Broadway tap dancer Edwin Sledge (who died in Houston, Texas on July 1, 1996 at age 73) and actress Florez Sledge (who died of a stroke in Phoenix, Arizona on May 17, 2007 at age 79), Debbie, Joni, Kathy and Kim were given vocal training by their grandmother Viola Williams, a former lyric soprano opera singer and protégé of civil rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune. Under Viola’s guidance they regularly sang at their family church, Williams Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) until forming a band and performing at charity and political events throughout Philadelphia, aptly named ‘Mrs Williams’ Grandchildren’.

Gregory Alan Isakov

Gregory Alan Isakov is a singer-songwriter. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, he immigrated to the United States as a child, and was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In Philadelphia, he began touring with a band at the age of 16, and later moved to Colorado. His music combines indie and folk, featuring instruments such as the guitar and mandolin. Some of his most popular songs include "The Stable Song," "Big Black Car," and "Raising Cain".

Isakov has spent his entire life traveling, and as a result, his travels have impacted his songwriting; his songs tell stories of miles and landscapes and the search for a sense of place. Music has been a constant force in his life, as he says, "I've always had this sense about music and writing, that I sort of have to do it. Like I'll implode without it. I probably wouldn't do it if I felt any other way."

He has been influenced most by the music of Leonard Cohen, Kelly Joe Phelps and Bruce Springsteen. Gregory has played at many music festivals held across the United States, Canada and Europe. Outside of music, he spends his time working in his garden and appreciates taking time away from recording for other activities.
