There is no question that legendary entrepreneur Marc Andreessen is a power player in Silicon Valley. Nor that Michael Ovitz, who used to be the power player in Hollywood, is one of the people who did most to disrupt the way business was done in the entertainment industry, with his bare-knuckle approach at his groundbreaking Creative Artists Agency.
So, if you put them together, as happened recently at the Sand Hill Road offices of the Andreessen Horowitz venture firm, you get what turned out to be a very interesting discussion. In fact, Andreessen actually interviewed Ovitz in front of a private audience about his life and philosophies.
BoomTown attended the event, which had been off the record until now, when a video of the talk was provided to All Things Digital.
The pair met up awhile ago, as Ovitz developed an interest in Silicon Valley after his glory days as an über-agent and his fateful stint as a top exec at Disney. Here’s the video of the full interview, in which he talks about all of that. It’s long, at one hour, but–as you’ll find–quite riveting.

-SYNOPSIS-
The blood on the streets of Hollywood reeked of power deals, stolen clients and solid-gold parachutes. Above it all stood one man: a power broker once so powerful, his fall from omnipotence left a void nearly big enough to accommodate his entire ego.
What does a man do when he faces adversity; a terrible loss; a failure of body and soul? The answer is obvious...blame everyone else. And do it publicly...in Vanity Fair magazine.
Ovitz's blame list included Bernie Weinraub (NY Times writer), former partners, Rick and Julie Yorn, Jeff Kwatinetz (Limp Bizkit manager who purchased Ovitz's failing AMG) and Michael Armstrong (AT&T; Chairman). But at the head of Ovitz's enemy list sits David Geffen, the so-called don of the so-called gay mafia. Ovitz believed that "...they wanted to kill him and take his kids...," No kidding
Ovitz once threatened to "beat the shit out of Geffen." So what results when the blame hits the fan? Just how much can Geffen and his "soldiers", Diller, Meyer and Eisner, take? Not much it seems.

Tamara Mellon, the 47-year-old co-founder of Jimmy Choo is engaged to Michael Ovitz, who is the co-founder of the prominent celebrity management group Creative Artists Agency. Michael S. Ovitz (born December 14, 1946) is an American talent agent who co-founded Creative Artists Agency (CAA) in 1975 and served as its chairman until 1995. Ovitz later served as President of the Walt Disney Company from October 1995 to January 1997.
Ovitz was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of a liquor wholesaler. Raised in Encino, California, he attended Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, a classmate of Sally Field. While a premed student at UCLA, he began his entertainment career as a part-time tour guide at Universal Studios. Upon graduation from UCLA in 1968 with a degree in theater, film, and television, he secured a job in the mail room at the William Morris Agency. Within a year he was promoted, becoming a highly successful television agent. Six years later he and four other young colleagues left William Morris to found Creative Artists Agency.
Ovitz founded Creative Artists Agency in 1975 along with fellow William Morris Agents Ron Meyer, Bill Haber, Rowland Perkins, and Mike Rosenfeld. Borrowing only $21,000 from a bank, the agents rented a small office, conducting business on card tables and rented chairs, their wives taking turns as agency receptionist.

Walter Elias "Walt" Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist, well known for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. Along with his brother Roy O. Disney, he was co-founder of Walt Disney Productions, which later became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. Jimmy Choo, OBE, born Choo Yeang Keat, (Chinese: 周仰杰; pinyin: Zhōu Yǎngjié) is a Malaysian fashion designer based in London, United Kingdom. He is best known for founding Jimmy Choo Ltd that became known for its handmade women's shoes.
Choo was born in Penang, Malaysia, into a family of shoemakers, who are of Chinese Hakka descent. His family name is Chow but was misspelled on his birth certificate as Choo. He made his first shoe when he was 11 years old. He is perhaps the most notable of students of Cordwainers Technical College in Hackney, England, from which he graduated in 1983. (The college is now part of the London College of Fashion at University of the Arts London.) Choo has divulged that he worked part time at restaurants and as a cleaner at a shoe factory to help fund his college education.
Jimmy Choo traced his beginnings back to his workshop in Hackney, North London, which he opened in 1986 by renting an old hospital building. His craftsmanship and designs were soon noticed and he came to the verge of international notability when his creations were featured in a record eight pages in a 1988 issue of Vogue. Patronage from Diana, Princess of Wales, from 1990 further boosted his image.

What does a man do when he faces adversity; a terrible loss; a failure of body and soul? The answer is obvious...blame everyone else. And do it publicly...in Vanity Fair magazine.
Ovitz's blame list included Bernie Weinraub (NY Times writer), former partners, Rick and Julie Yorn, Jeff Kwatinetz (Limp Bizkit manager who purchased Ovitz's failing AMG) and Michael Armstrong (AT&T; Chairman). But at the head of Ovitz's enemy list sits David Geffen, the so-called don of the so-called gay mafia. Ovitz believed that "...they wanted to kill him and take his kids...," No kidding
