Huahine is an island located among the Society Islands, in French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. It is part of the Leeward Islands group (Îles sous le Vent). The island has a population of about 6,300.
Huahine measures 16 km in length, with a maximum width of 13 km. It is made up of two main islands surrounded by a fringing coral reef with several islets, or motu. Huahine Nui (Big Huahine) lies to the north and Huahine Iti (Little Huahine) to the south. The two islands are separated by a few hundred yards of water and joined by a sandspit at low tide. A small bridge was built to connect Huahine Nui and Huahine Iti.
In the northwest of Huahine Nui lies a 375 ha brackish lake known as Lac Fauna Nui (Lac Maeva). This lake is all that remains of the ancient atoll lagoon. Air transportation is available via Huahine airport, located on the northern shore of Huahine Nui.
Administratively Huahine is a commune (municipality) part of the administrative subdivision of the Leeward Islands. Huahine consists of the following associated communes:
French Polynesia (i/ˈfrɛntʃ pɒlᵻˈniːʒə/; French: Polynésie française [pɔlinezi fʁɑ̃sɛz]; Tahitian: Pōrīnetia Farāni) is an overseas collectivity of the French Republic; collectivité d'outre-mer de la République française (COM), sometimes unofficially referred to as an overseas country; pays d'outre-mer (POM). It is composed of 118 geographically dispersed islands and atolls stretching over an expanse of more than 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) in the South Pacific Ocean. Its total land area is 4,167 square kilometres (1,609 sq mi).
French Polynesia is divided into 5 groups of islands: The Society Islands archipelago composed of the Windward Islands and the Leeward Islands, the Tuamotu Archipelago, the Gambier Islands, the Marquesas Islands and the Austral Islands. Among its 118 islands and atolls, 67 are inhabited. Tahiti, which is located within the Society Islands, is the most populous island and the seat of the capital of the collectivity, Pape'ete. It has more than 68% of the population of the islands in 2012. Although not an integral part of its territory, Clipperton Island was administered from French Polynesia until 2007.

Huahine is one of Polynesia’s best-kept secrets. Set in a gorgeous lagoon, Huahine is dotted with several mountain peaks in which the highest, Mount Turi, reaches some 2,200 feet high. Formally home to Polynesian royalty, Huahine has the highest concentration of pre-European marae (sacred meeting places) in all of Polynesia. I had the pleasure of visiting the island with superswell VR and Samsung to film a series of 360-degree videos. And, this week, I was feeling nostalgic for it’s warm waters, hiking, snorkeling and ancient religious sites. This video only goes to show how much fun there is to be hand on this hidden isle. If you like to travel off the beaten path and you’re considering a trip to the islands of the South Pacific, be sure to put Huahine at the top of your list. ___ ...

Stock footage available from http://videosource.com/search.html Transcript: To the Northeast of Raiatea lies the leeward island of Huahine. The bay at Fare, Huahines' principle town, reflects the tranquil pace of life here. Huahine is actually two islands connected by a bridge. They share the same barrier reef leading scientists to believe that they are actually two high points of one ancient volcano. These islanders were the last to hold onto their independence before France annexed them in 1895. The town of Fare couldn't be a more typical, sleepy South Seas village. The 4,000 islanders grow and market copra, watermelon, and cantaloupe. And, of course, so...

Bora Bora Travel Guide The small island of Bora Bora (just six miles long and 2.5 miles wide) overflows with beauty.

I gotta itchin’ shoes and a dose of the blues this
morning,
A simple story too beer and fun,
I won’t feel so bad when I'm back in the cab an' I'm
movin',
Headin’ out on the Highway Number One.
When I left my mates I was feelin' great I remember,
We were full of noise and ready for the run.
I didn't think I had too much drink so it shows ya,
Oh it must be the sleep that brings a man undone.
Heading interstate with a load of freight at sunrise,
No maps to read I got all I need in my roadmap eyes,
Oh Let the diesels roar but don’t slam the doors when
you’re leavin’,
As I find my way on the Highway Number One.
[yodel]
[Instrumental]
Hey!
I put a cartridge in, it starts to spin and it’s
playin’,
Something about a sad hangover song,
Oh my head's so sore from the night before that I'm
sayin',
Oh diesel won’t you take me gently home.
Headin’ interstate with a load of freight at sunrise,
No maps to read I got all I need, here in my roadmap
eyes,
Oh Let the diesels roar but don’t slam the doors when
you’re leavin’,
As I find my way on the Highway Number One.
