Happy Halloween everybody! Here's a reconstruction of the infamous Dracula - Sovereign of the Damned (aka The Tomb of Dracula), with video from the remastered Japanese DVD, recut to conform to Harmony Gold's 1983 English dub. This 1980 adaptation of Marvel Comics' The Tomb of Dracula series is full of unintentional comedy, and is the origin of that gif of Dracula chowing down on a hamburger.

Hear classic Marvel artist Gene Colan talk about the origins of his atmospheric style, who he based Dracula on, and a word about the creation of Blade the Vampire Hunter! Hear Gene Colan talk about his inspiration for Dracula in the classic Marvel Tomb of Dracula comic book, how he thought of actor Jack Palance as Dracula, and Jack Palance did appear as Dracula in a TV movie just a couple years later! Gene was ahead of his time, bringing the face of Jack Palance as Dracula to comics two years before Hollywood did!
And while we only hear him briefly discuss the most famous vampire hunter in Marvel Comics Tomb of Dracula, Blade The Vampire Hunter - but fear not, we have more of him talking about Blade coming in the future. We should also note the co-creator of all of this, writer Marv Wolfman, a legend in Bronze Age comic books. We even in the future will be showing clips of Gene sharing his thoughts on the Wesley Snipes Blade Vampire Hunter movie!

At The time I recorded the video I didn't know it but I've since learned that the belt with those silver blades belongs to Blade, and the skull in the back of the statue is that of Nosferatu, pretty awesome piece!!!

The Tomb of Dracula
The Tomb of Dracula is a horror comic book series published by Marvel Comics from April 1972 to August 1979. The 70-issue series featured a group of vampire hunters who fought Count Dracula and other supernatural menaces. On rare occasions, Dracula would work with these vampire hunters against a common threat or battle other supernatural threats on his own, but more often than not, he was the antagonist rather than protagonist. In addition to his supernatural battles in this series, Marvel's Dracula often served as a supervillain to other characters in the Marvel Universe, battling the likes of Blade, Spider-Man, Werewolf by Night, the X-Men, and the licensed Robert E. Howard character Solomon Kane.

Original series
In 1971, the Comics Code Authority relaxed some of its longstanding rules regarding horror comics, such as a virtual ban on vampires. Marvel had already tested the waters with a "quasi-vampire" character, Morbius, the Living Vampire, but the company was now prepared to launch a regular vampire title as part of its new line of horror books. After some discussion, it was decided to use the Dracula character, in large part because it was the most famous vampire to the general public, and also because Bram Stoker's creation and secondary characters were by that time in the public domain.

At The time I recorded the video I didn't know it but I've since learned that the belt with those silver blades belongs to Blade, and the skull in the back of the statue is that of Nosferatu, pretty awesome piece!!!

This 1980 adaptation of Marvel Comics' The Tomb of Dracula series is full of unintentional comedy, and is the origin of that gif of Dracula chowing down on a hamburger.

Hear Gene Colan talk about his inspiration for Dracula in the classic Marvel Tomb of Dracula comic book, how he thought of actor Jack Palance as Dracula, and Jack Palance did appear as Dracula in a TV movie just a couple years later! Gene was ahead of his time, bringing the face of Jack Palance as Dracula to comics two years before Hollywood did!
And while we only hear him briefly discuss the most famous vampire hunter in Marvel Comics Tomb of Dracula, Blade The Vampire Hunter - but fear not, we have more of him talking about Blade coming in the future. We should also note the co-creator of all of this, writer Marv Wolfman, a legend in Bronze Age comic books. The Tomb of Dracula
The Tomb of Dracula is a horror comic book series published by Marvel Comics from April 1972 to August 1979. The 70-issue series featured a group of vampire hunters who fought Count Dracula and other supernatural menaces. On rare occasions, Dracula would work with these vampire hunters against a common threat or battle other supernatural threats on his own, but more often than not, he was the antagonist rather than protagonist. In addition to his supernatural battles in this series, Marvel's Dracula often served as a supervillain to other characters in the Marvel Universe, battling the likes of Blade, Spider-Man, Werewolf by Night, the X-Men, and the licensed Robert E. Howard character Solomon Kane.

Original series
In 1971, the Comics Code Authority relaxed some of its longstanding rules regarding horror comics, such as a virtual ban on vampires. Marvel had already tested the waters with a "quasi-vampire" character, Morbius, the Living Vampire, but the company was now prepared to launch a regular vampire title as part of its new line of horror books. After some discussion, it was decided to use the Dracula character, in large part because it was the most famous vampire to the general public, and also because Bram Stoker's creation and secondary characters were by that time in the public domain.
