Melbourne Airport (IATA: MEL, ICAO: YMML), also known as Tullamarine Airport, is the primary airport serving the city of Melbourne, and the second busiest airport in Australia. It was opened in 1970 to replace the nearby Essendon Airport. Melbourne Airport is the sole international airport of the four airports serving the Melbourne metropolitan area.
The airport is 23 km (14 mi) from the city centre. The airport has its own postcode—Melbourne Airport, Victoria (postcode 3045). This is adjacent to the suburb of Tullamarine.
The Melbourne–Sydney air route is the third most-travelled passenger air route in the world and the third busiest in the Asia Pacific region. The airport features direct flights to 33 domestic destinations of Australia in addition to destinations in the Pacific, London, Asia and North America. Melbourne Airport is the number one arrival/departure point for the airports of four of Australia's seven other capital cities. Melbourne serves as a major hub for Qantas and Virgin Australia, while Jetstar Airways and Tiger Airways Australia utilise the airport as home base. Despite the number of passengers, staff, and visitors of such a busy airport there remains no rail link from the airport to the city centre or into the V/Line network, unlike most first world airports, the only public transport option is a regular coach service. Melbourne is the busiest airport for international export freight as of August 2011, while second busiest for import freight. Domestically, Melbourne serves as headquarters for Australian air Express and Toll Priority and handles more domestic freight than any other airport in the nation.
Melbourne (/ˈmɛlbərn/, AU i/ˈmɛlbən/) is the capital and most populous city in the Australian state of Victoria, and the second most populous city in Australia and Oceania. The name "Melbourne" refers to the area of urban agglomeration (as well as a census statistical division) spanning 9,900 km2 (3,800 sq mi) which comprises the broader metropolitan area, as well as being the common name for its city centre. The metropolis is located on the large natural bay of Port Phillip and expands into the hinterlands towards the Dandenong and Macedon mountain ranges, Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley. Melbourne consists of 31 municipalities. It has a population of 4,347,955 as of 2013, and its inhabitants are called Melburnians.
Founded by free settlers from the British Crown colony of Van Diemen's Land on 30 August 1835, in what was then the colony of New South Wales, it was incorporated as a Crown settlement in 1837. It was named "Melbourne" by the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Richard Bourke, in honour of the British Prime Minister of the day, William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne. It was officially declared a city by Queen Victoria in 1847, after which it became the capital of the newly founded colony of Victoria in 1851. During the Victorian gold rush of the 1850s, it was transformed into one of the world's largest and wealthiest cities. After the federation of Australia in 1901, it served as the nation's interim seat of government until 1927.

English - Victoria Auatralia experienced some very strong winds on the 9th of October 2016. Melbourne Airport registed wind speeds of over 100 km per hour. All planes used the runway 34 approach and it's the skill of the pilots that allowed the planes to land safely in pretty bad conditions. In this vision you will see some of the Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A320-200 along with a Dash 8 Q400 and the weather the pilots experienced as they approached Melbourne Airport. Filmed September 10th 2016 from Level 5 of the T4 terminal car park. Featuring - A320s, A330s, A350s, A380s, B747s, B767s, B777s, BD700s & A C-130! The biggest highlight of spring was at the very end, Beijing Capital Airlines' new route between Shenyang, Qingdao and Melbourne. After confirming flights earlier this year, the wait began before we'd start seeing them on aussie soil. Although their livery has a few mixed opinions, I think it's a stunner!! The Inaugural arrival seen here - 02:09 Solomon Airlines' quick and out of the blue charter flight down here was a pleasant surprise and fantastic movement for the month. Lacking variety from the usual Tigerair and Jetstar A320s, having something a little different was fantastic! Solomon Airlines arrival seen here - 07:21 The RAAF always like to pay YMML a quick visit every so often, fortunately their quic...

Including - B747s, B777s, A330s, A350s, A380s and an AN124! August has been a fantastic month with 2 huge highlights! With the final month of winter down, bring on those longer days and much better weather! The biggest highlight for this month was really hard to decide, however I went with the AN124. After half a decade of an Antonov drought, finally another came around, picking up a jet engine to delivery to a broken down Jetstar in Guam. The Antonov at Melbourne has always been a rare occasion so having the privilege to go out and catch one was fantastic! Seen here - 07:25 The next huge highlight of the month was somewhat unexpected until August had actually started - Singapore's A350s! Originally meant to start in September, SQ pushed the starting date up to early August. Although...
English - 100 km per hour winds at Melbourne Airport greeted all arrival approaches on runway 34 on the 9th of October 2016. Most planes made it on the first attemp while a few had to go around again. Here is Qantas Link Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 (VH-QOT) missing it's first approach from Canberra. Another month down in 2016, bringing a few special flights and 1 particular up-gauge I'm really pleased about with it. April has been a fantastic month all together. Some of the key highlights to this month were: Qantas's up-gauge on the Melbourne - Hong Kong route. They have now begun sending Melbourne 3x weekly 747s to replace a few of the usual A330's. I couldn't be happier to see the Qantas 747 become a lot more common. (00:00) is the inaugural 747 service in some gorgeous morning lighting. Another highlight was the Royal New Zealand Air Force 757, popping over to Melbourne one afternoon for ANZAC day. 757s in Australia are a very rare sight, so grab then when you can! A highlight for me was catching the Skytrader's A319. It's always seemed to dodge my efforts in catching it. Alth...

Here it is, our pilot episode! Why am I doing this? I travel a lot. Too much. And recently I find myself rocking up in a city that I've never been to before and know very little about. On any level. Culture, language, transport, money, food, etc. But most travel shows are an hour-long, US-centric, full of bad information, and almost exclusively aimed at tourists. So I wanted to create something different. Something aimed at the frequent traveller, something portable and short-form. Something...useful. In our pilot episode we get you in, out, and around the wonderful city of London, England. We tell you the best way to get from the airport into the city, the best way to get around, how much things cost, and why you should ALWAYS stand on the right. In follow up episodes we'll be adding ...

Featuring - B717, B737, B747, B748, B767, B777, B787, A320, A330, A380 and IL-76! Our first month of winter is down, leaving 2 left. We've had a pretty savage start to winter so far with a few days of sunny weather in-between the rainy, miserable days. June brought some incredible movements and up-gauges with it, making it one of my all time favourite months this year! Our biggest change to happen this month occurred right at the start. Etihad's up-gauge to daily A380 flights. For us, this is pretty huge. Seeing Etihad's dedication to Melbourne is really amazing. Although their A380 arrives at night at this stage, in a few months time, she'll be arriving in some outstanding sunsets! Secondly, the visit of the il-76 was unexpected but amazing! Last seen at Melbourne in 2012 and has pa...

For Melbourne, July has been constantly faced with miserable, rainy days that are horrible for spotting, being one of our worst winters in a long, long time. However, it did bring us a few special highlights. The biggest highlight this month was no other then Air Force 2s special visit and their back-up C-32. Flying the US Vice President over to Melbourne for a couple of days. His departure sure brought a crowd of spotters to grab a photo or gilmps of the insanely rare flight. Melbourne Airport (MEL/YMML) is our home when it comes to plane spotting. This is a compilation of our BEST work from the year that has passed, 2015. Thrown into the mix is a number of clips that haven't been uploaded this year, being saved until now for this very video. You will notice that each video is roughly in schedule order; beginning with the sunrise arrival rush, into the frantic mid-morning departure run, flowing through to the awesome afternoon heavies, concluding with sunset departures and arrivals. We are blessed to have such a wonderful airport, closely knit spotting community and most of all, the awesome aircraft movements that visit us day in, day out. ~~~~TIMING LIST~~~~ 00:37 – N26952 – United 787-9 Landing 01:04 – A6-ETK – Etihad 777-300ER Landing 01:41 – VH-XZB – Qa...
Plane Spotting at Melbourne Airport throughout the month of September put into a 30 Minute Compilation. Featuring the A380, 747, A330, 777, A320, 787, 737 & More, September certainly passed quickly and provided Melbourne with lots of special visits. September was the month that the Thai A350-900 was supposed to start services to Melbourne. Originally being scheduled for September 15th Thai pushed it back another week just days before it was meant to start. However it wasn’t all negative. This meant Thai sent their 777-300ER as a replacement for just one week. I caught HS-TKX. This can be seen at 25:41. Much to the displeasure of spotters at Melbourne Thai for what seemed to be the hundredth time pushed their A350 service all the way back to the end of October. Now already 4 months later...
January to February of 2016 provided many highlights at Melbourne Airport, the visit of an Emirates SkyCargo 747-400F, a FedEx MD-11F, Fiji Airways 737-8KJ Daylight arrival and many special liveries. 2 months in the making today I bring you a 28 minute MEGA Planespotting compilation to reflect on the past two months at Melbourne Airport. Plane Spotting throughout the month of June compiled into a 30 Minute Compilation. Featuring the A380, 747, 787, A330, 777, A320, 737 & More, June certainly flew by and provided us with some excellent rare visits. To Start off the month we welcomed the Etihad Airbus A380-861 seen at 18:26 on it's Inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi. The Airbus A380 replaced the Boeing 777 on one of the 2 daily flights that Etihad operate. Unforntunately the conditions weren't the best and my footage didn't turn out too flash. 9M-XXU an Air Asia Airbus A330-343 was given the job of promoting the new 'X-Men' movie. Decals were put on this plane and instantly became a hit amongst the Aviation community. Seen at 03:25. B-LAK and B-LAL also payed visits, these two aircraft are registered with Cathay Pacific and ...
