Hans Talhoffer (Dalhover, Talhouer, Thalhoffer, Talhofer) was a 15th-century German fencing master. His martial lineage is unknown, but his writings make it clear that he had some connection to the tradition of Johannes Liechtenauer, the grand master of the Medieval German school of fencing. Talhoffer was a well educated man who took interest in astrology, mathematics, onomastics, and the auctoritas and the ratio. He authored at least five fencing manuals during the course of his career, and appears to have made his living teaching, including training people for trial by combat.
The first known reference to Talhoffer is in 1433, when he represented Johann II von Reisberg, archbishop of Salzburg, before the Vehmic court. Shortly thereafter in 1434, Talhoffer was arrested and questioned by order of Wilhelm von Villach (a footman to Albrecht III von Wittelsbach, duke of Bavaria) in connection to the trial of a Nuremberg aristocrat named Jacob Auer, accused of murdering of his brother. Auer's trial was quite controversial and proved a major source of contention and regional strife for the subsequent two years. Talhoffer himself remained in the service of the archbishop for at least a few more years, and in 1437 is mentioned as serving as a bursary officer (Kastner) in Hohenburg.

Our interpretation of medieval wrestling techniques from the Thott 290 2º manuscript written in 1459 by Hans Talhoffer. The images in the video are presented in the same order as they appear in the book, except for the last two which have been reversed (nr. 23 and 24). The very last illustration is not from the wrestling section but from a later part of the book. Last April I was in Italy and I had the chance to see some Messer's techniques with my friend Enrico Campobello from la sala delle armi, I found some similarities between these 2 styles, in this video you will see Enrico explain me some techniques, then we will have a free exchange where I will try to adapt the AK with the Messer( which is heavier and longer than a regular filipino sword), and at the end of the video I will show him some AK techniques that can be applied with the Messer.

One of the many treasures acquired by the Worcester Art Museum as part of the Higgins Armory collection is a rare original copy of Joachim Meyer's sixteenth-century swordplay manual, The Art of Combat (Die Kunst des Fechtens). This work is one of the most important sources for modern swordfighters who are today reviving the combat arts of Medieval and Renaissance Europe. In 2015 the museum also acquired an equally rare two-hand fencing sword of the type used by Meyer, one of only three examples known to be in the Americas. The museum's Curator of Arms, Armor, and Medieval Art, Jeffrey Forgeng, published the manual in translation in 2014, and he discusses the fascinating prints it contains to illustrate the Art of Combat. This is a Reply to http://youtu.be/blDn7TY6KXo Thrand and Eldgrim Reply to Colin Richards at The Arts of Mars Academy of the Sword HEMA. Thrand and Eldgrim go over what Colin Richards said would not work with an over weighted 16 lbs.Viking Round shield. This disproves Colin Richards theory of the heavy shield not working like Roland Warzecha's interpretation from Hans Talhoffer's 1459 Fight Book and the pivoting shields. This also proves the sword does not out move the shield like stated for they use a very light sword well balanced to test this as well against an extremely heavy Viking round more so than almost any historical counter part. So sit back grab some mead wile the Large Viking round is explored and discussed and tested full speed with this intensive reply to Colin Richards from...
