Scott Hastings "Scotty" Beckett (October 4, 1929 – May 10, 1968) was an American actor. Beckett began his career as a child actor in the Our Gang shorts and later co-starred on Rocky Jones, Space Ranger.
Born in Oakland, California, Beckett got his start in show business at age 3 when the family moved to Los Angeles and a casting director heard him singing by chance. Beckett was at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital visiting his father, who was recovering from an illness, and was entertaining him by singing songs in Pig Latin. Nurses heard him singing and carried him from room to room on every visit to sing for other patients. One day, a studio casting director who happened to be nearby noticed the child and told his parents he had movie potential. Beckett auditioned, and landed a part in Gallant Lady (1933), alongside Dickie Moore. The same year, his father died. In 1934, Beckett joined Our Gang, in which Moore had appeared from 1932 to 1933.
Beckett appeared as a regular in the Our Gang short subjects series from 1934 to 1935. In the gang, Beckett played George "Spanky" McFarland's best friend and partner in mischief. His trademark look was a crooked baseball cap and an oversized sweater exposing one shoulder. His role was taken over by Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer in 1935, and Beckett left the series for features after that year. In 1939, he returned to Our Gang briefly as Alfalfa's cousin Wilbur in Cousin Wilbur and Dog Daze.

This is a little "preview trailer" for an upcoming video. I am currently collecting more of Scotty Beckett's films on DVD but I thought it would be neat to make a sneak peak clip. I don't know if I will use this particular song ("Distant Memories", composed by James Horner from the 1997 film "Titanic"), but it seem to go well with these chosen clips. The full video will be longer, possibly with two songs. Scotty Beckett was considered one ...
Viewers not familiar with Al Jolson might be wondering who Rudy Wissler was not to mention Scotty Beckett; both seen here in excerpts from the beginning of the award winning musical biography of Al Jolson's life, "The Jolson Story". Actually, Wissler was the 'uncredited' tenor voice singing the songs that actor Scotty Beckett mouthed the words to in the film, while portraying Jolson as a kid rising up in the world of show business. We also get a good glimpse of Jolson's sidekick, manager and adviser Steve Martin (played by William Demarest) in the film. Jolson devotees have always enjoyed the wonderful singing that Mr. Wissler did for the film although he in no way had a monumental career outside of this movie. Scotty Beckett, on the other hand, will be remembered for his roles in "The Li...

Shrimps for a Day is a 1934 Our Gang short comedy film directed by Gus Meins. It was the 133rd Our Gang short (45th talking episode) that was released. The gang reside at the Happy Home Orphanage, an inaptly-named organization run by the nasty and dishonest Mr. (Clarence Wilson) and Mrs. Crutch (Rosa Gore). Invited to a garden party at the home of wealthy Mr. Wade, the children enjoy a good time and are showered with gifts, though they know full well that their new clothes and toys will be appropriated and sold by the Crutches once they return to the orphanage. Meanwhile, Mr. Wade's daughter Mary (Doris McMahan) and her boyfriend Dick (Joe Young) stumble upon a magic lamp, which grants them their wish: to be children again. Dick and Mary are summarily rounded up by the Crutches and bundle...

His all too brief life became one of Hollywood's great tragedies. The circumstances surrounding his tragically early death at age 38 will probably never be fully known. What he left behind was a wonderful legacy of film and television work. I hope to have captured some of that legacy of talent here. I apologize for the poor quality of some of the clips, as some of these films and programs are quite rare and/or h...

Say good bye good - hey hey hey
we might not be fooling around today
if we go all the way - hey hey hey
all the ills after us is the songs that we play
say good bye good - hey hey hey
all we've got is rightnow if you're not going my way
my eyes are listening - hey hey hey
we might not mean anything that we'ld say
no no way, no way, we might not be fooling around today, no way, no way
trees have caught fire when your eyes lit up
the season's changed and the movie has stopped
frontlights are out, the curtains are drawn.
Now I was before our first days are gone
at the end of the song. so long.
we might not know what we've done so long - no no way
we might not be fooling around today
say good bye good - (choir) hey hey hey hey hey ...
