Bear Man Of Finland Has An Unbreakable Bond With Brown Bears

MEET Sulo Karjalainen - known to many in his native Finland as the "bearman". The 73-year-old runs Kuusamo Large Carnivore Centre with his brother Jalo, which has been home to more than 20 orphaned brown bears. After working on a research project studying Finnish carnivores, Sulo was asked if he would mind taking in some cubs. And over the years a deep bond has grown up between Sulo and his furry companions. The Fin, who has lived on the same farm all his life, has become a celebrity in his homeland due to his incredible relationship with the predators - even starring in his own TV documentary. At present Sulo looks after six bears - and has no plans to retire any time soon.

One Camper's Incredible Encounter With an Alaskan Brown Bear

A stunning video filmed by an Alaskan wildlife enthusiast has captured an incredible close encounter with a brown bear.
The bear lumbers over the the brave camper's site, having a brief sit to survey the riverbed before turning back the way it came.
According to CNN, the world's largest concentration of wild brown bears gathers at the sanctuary ever year from June to August, gorging themselves on salmon.
'Ha ha... He probably just wanted to sit down and have a beer with you. Couldn't you see he was breathing hard? Come on Drew help a guy out!' joked user Brian Young.
According to the McNeil Web site, no one there has ever been killed by a bear. Still, the site notes, it's important for camper's to remember that they're in the bear's home and not the other way around

I was a kindergarten teacher for 10 years. Without a doubt, Eric Carle's book, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" was my absolute favorite for teaching kids to read. It works like a charm.
As a musician, I decided to put the text to easy music. Here I am presenting a video that includes the book art, the text, and my music.

The brown bear (Ursus arctos) is a large bear distributed across much of northern Eurasia and North America. Adult bears generally weigh between 300 and 680 kilograms (660 and 1,500 lb) and its largest subspecies, the Kodiak bear, rivals the polar bear as the largest member of the bear family and as the largest land-based predator.
There are several recognized subspecies within the brown bear species. In North America, two types are generally recognized, the coastal brown bear and the inland grizzly bear, and the two types could broadly define all brown bear subspecies. An adult grizzly living inland in Yukon may weigh as little as 300 kg (660 lb), while an adult brown bear in coastal Alaska or Russia living on a steady, nutritious diet of spawning salmon may weigh 680 kg (1,500 lb). The exact number of overall brown subspecies remains in debate.
While the brown bear's range has shrunk and it has faced local extinctions, it remains listed as a least concern species by the IUCN with a total population of approximately 200,000. However, the Californian, North African (Atlas bear), and Mexican subspecies were hunted to extinction in the 1870s, 1922, and more recently, respectively, and the not officially recognized Marsican brown bear in central Italy is believed to have a population of just 30 to 40 bears.

Plot: Fleetwing has gone east to become a doctor and the first patient that he gets is Gabby. Gabby swallowed bad water escaping from Indians and has Indian fever. But the Indian agent, Warren, wants the land for grazing and is working with Clawtooth to get the Indians to move off the land because of the bad water. Warren decides to get rid of Fleetwing who does not want the tribe to move.

I wanted to share an amazing hunt of Roy's I had filmed and edited as a sample for a TV show, Beast Mode Bowhunting, that never came to fruition. I had networks that wanted to have me part of their line up, so I submitted this as an example of what Beast Mode Bowhunting was to me. They didn't like it. They said in this sample they expected me to be playing the role of a larger-than-life hunting "super hero" training hard and do extreme hunts. I told them that I was no super hero and I wouldn't be acting like one and this hunt of Roy's was as extreme and intense as it gets and if I did the show, he would be a big part of it. MEET Sulo Karjalainen - known to many in his native Finland as the "bearman". The 73-year-old runs Kuusamo Large Carnivore Centre with his brother Jalo, which has been home to more than 20 orphaned brown bears. After working on a research project studying Finnish carnivores, Sulo was asked if he would mind taking in some cubs. And over the years a deep bond has grown up between Sulo and his furry companions. The Fin, who has lived on the same farm all his life, has become a celebrity in his homeland due to his incredible relationship with the predators - even starring in his own TV documentary. At present Sulo looks after six bears - and has no plans to retire any time soon.

The strange scenes were pictured in a forest outside of Moscow, Russia, and have gone viral in the country.

I wanted to share an amazing hunt of Roy's I had filmed and edited as a sample for a TV show, Beast Mode Bowhunting, that never came to fruition. I had networks that wanted to have me part of their line up, so I submitted this as an example of what Beast Mode Bowhunting was to me. They didn't like it. They said in this sample they expected me to be playing the role of a larger-than-life hunting "super hero" training hard and do extreme hunts. I told them that I was no super hero and I wouldn't be acting like one and this hunt of Roy's was as extreme and intense as it gets and if I did the show, he would be a big part of it. They said that isn't what they had in mind and I said, well, I guess we don't need to worry about the show then. And, that was that.
For me, I had hosted TV shows already: Eastmans' Bowhunting Journal TV, Elk Chronicles and Team Elk and been on other hunting shows a number of times. I didn't really care, and still don't care, about just doing another show, unless it was exactly what I wanted to do and what I wanted to do was a show with Roy. Anyway, since we couldn't come to an agreement on the show concept, the opportunity went away and Roy and I focused on other things. No biggie to us. Nothing could stop of from doing what we love, adventure bowhunting, TV or not. Since then this hunt has been sitting here and beings it is so good, I felt inclined to share it for free on YouTube will all my friends and followers. Hope you like it. #riproyroth #roytough
