10 Things to do in Granada, Spain Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Wrapping up our travels in Spain, our last city to visit was Granada. Set in Andalusia at the foot of the snow capped Sierra Nevada, this is a place where Moorish influence is palpable. From hilltop fortresses to Moroccan markets, and tranquil gardens to quaint teahouses, in this travel guide we’re going to show you some of the things you can do in Granada:
This Cathedral was as grand as you’d expect. The stark white interiors were a bit of a contrast to the ornate churches we had seen in other cities, but that just made your eyes travel towards a glowing, golden altar.
The Moroccan souk turned out to be one of our favourite spots in the city. The street was packed with tiny shops standing shoulder to shoulder, all filled with leather handbags, glass lamps, wool slippers, colourful scarves and pashminas and souvenirs.
We continued our way up the hill into Albayzín. This is one of the oldest centres of Muslim culture in Granada. The neighbourhood is a maze of narrow cobbled streets, white-houses with tiled roofs, and small courtyards sprinkled in between.
We made time to stop at one of the teterías, or teahouses. This was the perfect place to rest on a cold winter day and enjoy some afternoon treats.
You can find numerous Moroccan restaurants in this part of the city for food. One place we ate at on more than once occasion was Al-Faguara. They offered set menus for lunch featuring hummus, falafel, couscous, tajine, and of course, lots of baklava.
Let’s take a moment to talk about Granada’s main tourist attraction: the Alhambra!
The Alhambra is a massive complex of palaces, gardens and fortresses that once formed the citadel of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, which was the last Muslim dynasty to rule along the Iberian Peninsula from the years 1230 to 1492.
This is the one attraction you can’t miss when you visit Granada, and you’ll want to book your tickets well in advance as they can sell out during high season.
We spent half a day touring the grounds during which time we visited the Nasrid Palaces, the Palace of Charles the Fifth, the Alcazaba, and the Generalife.
We decided to find a cafe where we could indulge in a delicious Spanish breakfast.
Another spot we explored in Granada is Carrerra del Darro, a small lane that runs along the Darro River at the base of the Alhambra. This street is lined with arched-stone bridges and historic buildings.
We’ll leave you with a few scenes of Granada at night and one last glimpse of the Alhambra lit up against the evening sky.

Granada
Granada (/ɡrəˈnɑːdə/, Spanish: [ɡɾaˈnaða], locally: [ɡɾaˈnaː, -ˈnaða]) is a city and the capital of the province of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. Granada is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, at the confluence of four rivers, the Beiro, the Darro, the Genil and the Monachil. It sits at an average elevation of 738 metres above sea level, yet is only one hour by car from the Mediterranean coast, the Costa Tropical. Nearby is the Sierra Nevada Ski Station, where the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1996 were held.
In the 2005 national census, the population of the city of Granada proper was 236,982, and the population of the entire urban area was estimated to be 472,638, ranking as the 13th-largest urban area of Spain. About 3.3% of the population did not hold Spanish citizenship, the largest number of these people (31%; or 1% of the total population) coming from South America. Its nearest airport is Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport.

Coordinates: 37°15′N 3°15′W / 37.250°N 3.250°W / 37.250; -3.250 Granada is one of the 52 electoral districts (Spanish: circunscripciones) used for the Spanish Congress of Deputies – the lower chamber of the Spanish Parliament, the Cortes Generales. The method of election is the D'Hondt method and a closed-list proportional representation, with a minimum threshold of 3%.
It is one of eight districts which correspond to the provinces of Andalusia. The largest municipalities are Granada, with a population of over 200,000, and Motril, with a population of over 60,000.

Province of Granada
Granada is a province of southern Spain, in the eastern part of the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is bordered by the provinces of Albacete, Murcia, Almería, Jaén, Córdoba, Málaga, and the Mediterranean Sea (along the Costa Tropical). Its capital city is also called Granada.
The province covers an area of 12,635 km2 (4,878 sq mi). Its population was 876,184 as of 2006, of whom about 30% live in the capital, and its average population density is 64.82/km2 (167.9/sq mi). It contains 170 municipalities.
Geography
The tallest mountain in the Iberian Peninsula, Mulhacén, is located in Granada. It measures 3,479 m (11,414 ft). The next highest mountains in the province are Veleta (3,396 m or 11,142 ft) and Alcazaba (3,371 m or 11,060 ft).
The river Genil, which rises in Granada, is one of the main tributaries of the Guadalquivir. Other important rivers include the Fardes, Monachil, Guadalfeo, Dílar, Ízbor, Verde and Darro.
Granada shares the Sierra Nevada National Park (in the Sierra Nevada mountain range) with Almería province. Another important range is the Sierra de Baza.

10 Things to do in Granada, Spain Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Wrapping up our travels in Spain, our last city to visit was Granada. Set in Andalusia at the foot of the snow capped Sierra Nevada, this is a place where Moorish influence is palpable. From hilltop fortresses to Moroccan markets, and tranquil gardens to quaint teahouses, in this travel guide we’re going to show you some of the things you can do in Granada:
This Cathedral was as grand as you’d expect. The stark white interiors were a bit of a contrast to the ornate churches we had seen in other cities, but that just made your eyes travel towards a glowing, golden altar.
The Moroccan souk turned out to be one of our favourite spots in the city. The street was packed with tiny shops standing shoulder to shoulder, all filled with leather handbags, glass lamps, wool slippers, colourful scarves and pashminas and souvenirs.
We continued our way up the hill into Albayzín. This is one of the oldest centres of Muslim culture in Granada. The neighbourhood is a maze of narrow cobbled streets, white-houses with tiled roofs, and small courtyards sprinkled in between.
We made time to stop at one of the teterías, or teahouses. This was the perfect place to rest on a cold winter day and enjoy some afternoon treats.
You can find numerous Moroccan restaurants in this part of the city for food. One place we ate at on more than once occasion was Al-Faguara. They offered set menus for lunch featuring hummus, falafel, couscous, tajine, and of course, lots of baklava.
Let’s take a moment to talk about Granada’s main tourist attraction: the Alhambra!
The Alhambra is a massive complex of palaces, gardens and fortresses that once formed the citadel of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, which was the last Muslim dynasty to rule along the Iberian Peninsula from the years 1230 to 1492.
This is the one attraction you can’t miss when you visit Granada, and you’ll want to book your tickets well in advance as they can sell out during high season.
We spent half a day touring the grounds during which time we visited the Nasrid Palaces, the Palace of Charles the Fifth, the Alcazaba, and the Generalife.
We decided to find a cafe where we could indulge in a delicious Spanish breakfast.
Another spot we explored in Granada is Carrerra del Darro, a small lane that runs along the Darro River at the base of the Alhambra. This street is lined with arched-stone bridges and historic buildings.
We’ll leave you with a few scenes of Granada at night and one last glimpse of the Alhambra lit up against the evening sky.

The history of Venezuela reflects events in areas of the Americas colonized by Spain starting 1522; amid resistance from indigenous peoples, led by Native caciques, such as Guaicaipuro and Tamanaco. However, in the Andean region of western Venezuela, complex Andean civilization of the Timoto-Cuica people flourished before European contact. In 1811, it became one of the first Spanish-American colonies to declare independence, which was not securely established until 1821, when Venezuela was a department of the federal republic of Gran Colombia. It gained full independence as a separate country in 1830. During the 19th century, Venezuela suffered political turmoil and autocracy, remaining dominated by regional caudillos until the mid-20th century. Since 1958, the country has had a series of democratic governments. Economic shocks in the 1980s and 1990s led to several political crises, including the deadly Caracazo riots of 1989, two attempted coups in 1992, and the impeachment of President Carlos Andrés Pérez for embezzlement of public funds in 1993. A collapse in confidence in the existing parties saw the 1998 election of former coup-involved career officer Hugo Chávez and the launch of the Bolivarian Revolution, beginning with a 1999 Constituent Assembly to write a new Constitution of Venezuela. This new constitution officially changed the name of the country to República Bolivariana de Venezuela .
Pre-Columbian period in Venezuela
Archaeologists have discovered evidence of the earliest known inhabitants of the Venezuelan area in the form of leaf-shaped flake tools, together with chopping and plano-convex scraping implements exposed on the high riverine terraces of the Pedregal River in western Venezuela. Late Pleistocene hunting artifacts, including spear tips, come from a similar site in northwestern Venezuela known as El Jobo. According to radiocarbon dating, these date from 15,000 to 9,000 B.P. Taima-Taima, yellow Muaco, and El Jobo in Falcón are some of the sites that have yielded archaeological material from these times. These groups co-existed with megafauna like megateriums, glyptodonts, and toxodonts. Archaeologists identify a Meso-Indian period from about 9,000–7,000 B.P. to 1000 B.P. In this period, hunters and gatherers of megafauna started to turn to other food sources and established the first tribal structures.
Pre-Columbian Venezuela had an estimated population of one million. In addition to indigenous peoples known today, the population included historic groups such as the Kalina , Caquetio, Auaké, Mariche, and Timoto-Cuicas. The Timoto-Cuica culture was the most complex society in Pre-Columbian Venezuela; with pre-planned permanent villages, surrounded by irrigated, terraced fields and with tanks for water storage. Their houses were made primarily of stone and wood with thatched roofs. They were peaceful, for the most part, and depended on growing crops. Regional crops included potatoes and ullucos. They left behind works of art, particularly anthropomorphic ceramics, but no major monuments. They spun vegetable fibers to weave into textiles and mats for housing. They are credited with having invented the arepa, a staple of Venezuelan cuisine.

STORYLINE:
Voters in Barcelona cast their ballots on Sunday in Spain's general election as the question of Catalan independence dominated the political agenda there for many.
The local push for independence in economically and politically powerful Catalonia has divided that region and soured political ties with the rest of Spain.
Spain's 36.5 million registered voters are electing representatives to the 350-seat lower house of Parliament and to the Senate, which has less legislative power.
Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy earlier vowed to halt the independence movement, and many see it as the biggest threat to Spanish unity in recent decades.
Other parties favour negotiations to devolve more power to Catalonia.
Podemos led by candidate Pablo Iglesias is the only of the four main parties in this election that favours a binding referendum of self-determination in Catalonia.

STORYLINE:
Voters in Barcelona cast their ballots on Sunday in Spain's general election as the question of Catalan independence dominated the political agenda there for many.
The local push for independence in economically and politically powerful Catalonia has divided that region and soured political ties with the rest of Spain.
Spain's 36.5 million registered voters are electing representatives to the 350-seat lower house of Parliament and to the Senate, which has less legislative power.
Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy earlier vowed to halt the independence movement, and many see it as the biggest threat to Spanish unity in recent decades.
Other parties favour negotiations to devolve more power to Catalonia.
Podemos led by candidate Pablo Iglesias is the only of the four main parties in this election that favours a binding referendum of self-determination in Catalonia.

This is just a small sample of what I was able to capture whilst on a visit in mid April.These wild goats were on the opposite side of the baranco(gorge) so were totally unaware of our presence as they were approx.150/200 metres away.I was only able to achieve such shots through my Swarovski ATS80 HD Scope with a Panasonic G80 connected via the APO Adapter.I must also mention,these animals would not have been located if it had not been for Paco ,my nephew Sean's spanish friend taking us by 4x4 to this remote and wild location.Muchas Gracias.

An intense waterspout and hail cause floods in several towns in the province of Granada.
Montefrío has been the most affected town, falling 109 liters per square meter in just half an hour, forcing roads to be cut and firefighters having to rescue several families who have been trapped in their homes.
A strong waterspout and hail has surprised the residents of several municipalities in the west of the province of Granada this afternoon. Around six in the afternoon, and in just half an hour, 109 liters per square meter have fallen, which has overflowed the Milanos stream as it passed through the town of Montefrío. This town has been one of the most affected by rainfall, to the point that several access roads have been cut.
According to council sources, the intensity of the rainfall has been such that the force of the water and the hail has come to damage some cars and has dragged others. In addition, dozens of rural roads have been completely flooded, forcing police, firefighters and civil protection to act to prevent personal injury.
The intensity of rainfall has been such that in some areas the water has reached a meter in height. For this reason, while the damages are being evaluated, the mayor of Montefrío has asked citizens to exercise caution.

Granada is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, at the confluence of four rivers, the Darro, the Genil, the Monachil and the Beiro. The city sits at an average elevation of 738 m above sea level, yet is only one hour by car from the Mediterranean coast, the Costa Tropical. The Alhambra, an ancient Nasrid citadel and palace, is located in Granada. It is the most renowned building of the Islamic historical legacy with its many cultural attractions and architectural elements that make Granada a popular destination among the tourist cities of Spain. This is just a small sample of what I was able to capture whilst on a visit in mid April.These wild goats were on the opposite side of the baranco(gorge) so were totally unaware of our presence as they were approx.150/200 metres away.I was only able to achieve such shots through my Swarovski ATS80 HD Scope with a Panasonic G80 connected via the APO Adapter.I must also mention,these animals would not have been located if it had not been for Paco ,my nephew Sean's spanish friend taking us by 4x4 to this remote and wild location.Muchas Gracias.

10 Things to do in Granada, Spain Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Wrapping up our travels in Spain, our last city to visit was Granada. Set in Andalusia at the foot of the snow capped Sierra Nevada, this is a place where Moorish influence is palpable. From hilltop fortresses to Moroccan markets, and tranquil gardens to quaint teahouses, in this travel guide we’re going to show you some of the things you can do in Granada:
This Cathedral was as grand as you’d expect. The stark white interiors were a bit of a contrast to the ornate churches we had seen in other cities, but that just made your eyes travel towards a glowing, golden altar.
The Moroccan souk turned out to be one of our favourite spots in the city. The street was packed with tiny shops standing shoulder to shoulder, all filled with leather handbags, glass lamps, wool slippers, colourful scarves and pashminas and souvenirs.
We continued our way up the hill into Albayzín. This is one of the oldest centres of Muslim culture in Granada. The neighbourhood is a maze of narrow cobbled streets, white-houses with tiled roofs, and small courtyards sprinkled in between.
We made time to stop at one of the teterías, or teahouses. This was the perfect place to rest on a cold winter day and enjoy some afternoon treats.
You can find numerous Moroccan restaurants in this part of the city for food. One place we ate at on more than once occasion was Al-Faguara. They offered set menus for lunch featuring hummus, falafel, couscous, tajine, and of course, lots of baklava.
Let’s take a moment to talk about Granada’s main tourist attraction: the Alhambra!
The Alhambra is a massive complex of palaces, gardens and fortresses that once formed the citadel of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, which was the last Muslim dynasty to rule along the Iberian Peninsula from the years 1230 to 1492.
This is the one attraction you can’t miss when you visit Granada, and you’ll want to book your tickets well in advance as they can sell out during high season.
We spent half a day touring the grounds during which time we visited the Nasrid Palaces, the Palace of Charles the Fifth, the Alcazaba, and the Generalife.
We decided to find a cafe where we could indulge in a delicious Spanish breakfast.
Another spot we explored in Granada is Carrerra del Darro, a small lane that runs along the Darro River at the base of the Alhambra. This street is lined with arched-stone bridges and historic buildings.
We’ll leave you with a few scenes of Granada at night and one last glimpse of the Alhambra lit up against the evening sky.

Granada
Granada (/ɡrəˈnɑːdə/, Spanish: [ɡɾaˈnaða], locally: [ɡɾaˈnaː, -ˈnaða]) is a city and the capital of the province of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. Granada is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, at the confluence of four rivers, the Beiro, the Darro, the Genil and the Monachil. It sits at an average elevation of 738 metres above sea level, yet is only one hour by car from the Mediterranean coast, the Costa Tropical. Nearby is the Sierra Nevada Ski Station, where the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1996 were held.
In the 2005 national census, the population of the city of Granada proper was 236,982, and the population of the entire urban area was estimated to be 472,638, ranking as the 13th-largest urban area of Spain. About 3.3% of the population did not hold Spanish citizenship, the largest number of these people (31%; or 1% of the total population) coming from South America. Its nearest airport is Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport.

The history of Venezuela reflects events in areas of the Americas colonized by Spain starting 1522; amid resistance from indigenous peoples, led by Native caciques, such as Guaicaipuro and Tamanaco. However, in the Andean region of western Venezuela, complex Andean civilization of the Timoto-Cuica people flourished before European contact. In 1811, it became one of the first Spanish-American colonies to declare independence, which was not securely established until 1821, when Venezuela was a department of the federal republic of Gran Colombia. It gained full independence as a separate country in 1830. During the 19th century, Venezuela suffered political turmoil and autocracy, remaining dominated by regional caudillos until the mid-20th century. Since 1958, the country has had a series of democratic governments. Economic shocks in the 1980s and 1990s led to several political crises, including the deadly Caracazo riots of 1989, two attempted coups in 1992, and the impeachment of President Carlos Andrés Pérez for embezzlement of public funds in 1993. A collapse in confidence in the existing parties saw the 1998 election of former coup-involved career officer Hugo Chávez and the launch of the Bolivarian Revolution, beginning with a 1999 Constituent Assembly to write a new Constitution of Venezuela. This new constitution officially changed the name of the country to República Bolivariana de Venezuela .
Pre-Columbian period in Venezuela
Archaeologists have discovered evidence of the earliest known inhabitants of the Venezuelan area in the form of leaf-shaped flake tools, together with chopping and plano-convex scraping implements exposed on the high riverine terraces of the Pedregal River in western Venezuela. Late Pleistocene hunting artifacts, including spear tips, come from a similar site in northwestern Venezuela known as El Jobo. According to radiocarbon dating, these date from 15,000 to 9,000 B.P. Taima-Taima, yellow Muaco, and El Jobo in Falcón are some of the sites that have yielded archaeological material from these times. These groups co-existed with megafauna like megateriums, glyptodonts, and toxodonts. Archaeologists identify a Meso-Indian period from about 9,000–7,000 B.P. to 1000 B.P. In this period, hunters and gatherers of megafauna started to turn to other food sources and established the first tribal structures.
Pre-Columbian Venezuela had an estimated population of one million. In addition to indigenous peoples known today, the population included historic groups such as the Kalina , Caquetio, Auaké, Mariche, and Timoto-Cuicas. The Timoto-Cuica culture was the most complex society in Pre-Columbian Venezuela; with pre-planned permanent villages, surrounded by irrigated, terraced fields and with tanks for water storage. Their houses were made primarily of stone and wood with thatched roofs. They were peaceful, for the most part, and depended on growing crops. Regional crops included potatoes and ullucos. They left behind works of art, particularly anthropomorphic ceramics, but no major monuments. They spun vegetable fibers to weave into textiles and mats for housing. They are credited with having invented the arepa, a staple of Venezuelan cuisine.

STORYLINE:
Voters in Barcelona cast their ballots on Sunday in Spain's general election as the question of Catalan independence dominated the political agenda there for many.
The local push for independence in economically and politically powerful Catalonia has divided that region and soured political ties with the rest of Spain.
Spain's 36.5 million registered voters are electing representatives to the 350-seat lower house of Parliament and to the Senate, which has less legislative power.
Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy earlier vowed to halt the independence movement, and many see it as the biggest threat to Spanish unity in recent decades.
Other parties favour negotiations to devolve more power to Catalonia.
Podemos led by candidate Pablo Iglesias is the only of the four main parties in this election that favours a binding referendum of self-determination in Catalonia.

The village of Tozar lies in a beautiful location within the province of Granada, inland Andalucia, Spain. Tozar is just 37Km from Granada airport, 134Km to Malaga airport and the coast a 1 hour and 10 minute drive away.
The name of the town Tozar in Granada comes from the Arab era when it was called “Tusar”. There is a tower in the village called Torre de las Porquerizas. It was built by Muslims as part of the defensive buildings in Moclin area. Before the Muslim era, there was a Roman settlement in this location in Granada region.
There is a dolmen and also burial grounds from Visigoths era that were also used by the Romans. More recent in history, we can see in the village some “trincheras” (trenches) used in the Spanish Civil War.
Close to the village you have other towns and villages which you can explore like Moclín where you can visit the old castle. There are also various walking routes for you to enjoy like the “Huellos del Pasado” or “Río Velillos”. This area in general is also great for cycling and exploring.
Tozar is an ideal area for activities such as hiking or mountaineering. If you walk through the Sierra del Marques, you get a wonderful panoramic view of the town. It also is one of the places in Granada with the most history.

An intense waterspout and hail cause floods in several towns in the province of Granada.
Montefrío has been the most affected town, falling 109 liters per square meter in just half an hour, forcing roads to be cut and firefighters having to rescue several families who have been trapped in their homes.
A strong waterspout and hail has surprised the residents of several municipalities in the west of the province of Granada this afternoon. Around six in the afternoon, and in just half an hour, 109 liters per square meter have fallen, which has overflowed the Milanos stream as it passed through the town of Montefrío. This town has been one of the most affected by rainfall, to the point that several access roads have been cut.
According to council sources, the intensity of the rainfall has been such that the force of the water and the hail has come to damage some cars and has dragged others. In addition, dozens of rural roads have been completely flooded, forcing police, firefighters and civil protection to act to prevent personal injury.
The intensity of rainfall has been such that in some areas the water has reached a meter in height. For this reason, while the damages are being evaluated, the mayor of Montefrío has asked citizens to exercise caution.

In this video I am walking through the streets of Granada city in Spain, Andalucia, on a summer evening in 2021. You will see the main shopping, bar and dining streets, the famous cathedral and the beautiful Calle Caldereria Nueva. This walk ends at the viewpoint San Nicolás (Albaicin district) where you can see the Alhambra. Granada is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, at the confluence of four rivers, the Darro, the Genil, the Monachil and the Beiro. The city sits at an average elevation of 738 m above sea level, yet is only one hour by car from the Mediterranean coast, the Costa Tropical. The Alhambra, an ancient Nasrid citadel and palace, is located in Granada. It is the most renowned building of the Islamic historical legacy with its many cultural attractions and architectural elements that make Granada a popular destination among the tourist cities of Spain. This is just a small sample of what I was able to capture whilst on a visit in mid April.These wild goats were on the opposite side of the baranco(gorge) so were totally unaware of our presence as they were approx.150/200 metres away.I was only able to achieve such shots through my Swarovski ATS80 HD Scope with a Panasonic G80 connected via the APO Adapter.I must also mention,these animals would not have been located if it had not been for Paco ,my nephew Sean's spanish friend taking us by 4x4 to this remote and wild location.Muchas Gracias.
