Kawasaki 4 Stroke Engine Rebuild. Piston Ring Repair , Head Gasket Replace
We have the kawasaki 4 stroke engine put back together and on the walk behind mower. We replaced both sets of pistons rings and we also put on new head gaskets and other gaskets as needed. The exhaust valve was stuck open and we got that fixed before we started this rebuild. The engine runs good but at a high rpm. We believe it is because of the governor spring that I stretched out on accident. I

We have the kawasaki 4 stroke engine put back together and on the walk behind mower. We replaced both sets of pistons rings and we also put on new head gaskets and other gaskets as needed. The exhaust valve was stuck open and we got that fixed before we started this rebuild. The engine runs good but at a high rpm. We believe it is because of the governor spring that I stretched out on accident. I ordered a new gov spring and throttle link & spring. Hopefully this fixing that problem and the mower will be done. The inventors of the new engine, Dan Gurney and his collaborator and former competitor Chuck Palmgren, believe that despite 120 years of development, the four-stroke engine hasn’t been able to make significant advancements in addressing two fundamental problems: optimum combustion and user-friendly operation.
"I’m not anti-electric automobiles," says 84 year-old Gurney. "The fact is that there are global and US oil and gas fields available which should last for many, many decades, I want to have a go at making the internal combustion engine even more competitive with electric power for some of those decades."
His patented design stands out by incorporating a twin crankshaft configuration that we haven’t seen in the motorcycle industry for many years. Its roots reach as far back as the 1910s, to Bugatti’s airplane U-Engine. But in the motorcycling world its most notable early appearance would be in the Ariel Square Four from the 1930s, while younger generations probably remember Suzuki’s RG500 and Kawasaki’s KR250 and 350 two-stroke racers from the late 1970s and early 1980s.
For Dan Gunrey, this layout is the best way to build a motor that self-cancels vibrations, which is a structural problem in every internal combustion engine.
"Without special balancing systems, vibration and reciprocating engines go together," he explains. "My experience is that things vibrate for a while, then fatigue and fall off or fall apart."
The MC4S engine is a tandem twin – the two cylinders are positioned along the axis of the frame – with a different crankshaft for each cylinder. As the two shafts rotate in opposite directions, their moments balance each other out, thus eliminating the need for balance shafts and making for a simpler structure with fewer moving parts.
Each crankshaft is shorter and sturdier and allows the engine to be more compact. Weight-wise, the second crank more or less evens out the balancing gear that has been removed. This design should benefit the bike’s handling as the moment-cancelling nature of the engine promises a completely neutral feeling when the motorcycle tips into a corner.
But that’s not all. As we delve deeper into the patent description, things get even more interesting. Gurney ventures into the world of optimal combustion by designing the intake system with an oversquare cylinder (piston bore larger than its stroke) and a meticulously calculated relationship of the intake valve area to the bore area.
The intake port has a "double tapered" cross section, as its diameter gets thinner in the middle section, forcing the flow to accelerate, before gradually expanding to meet the exact valve seat size. Playing around with small variations in intake port diameter and inclination, as well as valve seat angles, results in what Gurney calls the "optimized taper configuration" and some astonishing output results.

Starting and running a Laser 45 (?) four stroke engine.
Bought this of ebay (where else) last week. I think it's a 45, but could be a 50 or 62. A bit smaller than the Laser 61 I have. It was rather bunged up and one ...
Bought this of ebay (where else) last week. I think it's a 45, but could be a 50 or 62. A bit smaller than the Laser 61 I have. It was rather bunged up and one of the valves was sticking, but some persistence with some oil in the push rod tubes seemed to help! The carb was solid as well but I soaked it in fuel for a week and then took it apart and gave it a good seeing to with a tooth brush and it seems to to be running very nicely now. I will pop it into my Super 60 (the Irvine 40 seems to be dying).

it does not need any lube added to fuel because of the castiron piston and cylinder the cast i used contains high amount of carbon to prevent jamming and ceasing

Having previously tested my 15 ft Fleet design using a 9.8 hp Tohatsu, I was keen to see how such a lean and efficient hull would perform at the lower end of the outboard power spectrum.
This video shows Fleet being powered by a 14 year-old Honda BF2, 2 hp four-stroke outboard. The load is an 85kg (187lb) man, two gallons of fuel, anchor, oars, bronze oarlocks, and safety gear.
Speeds (measured by GPS) achieved in the calm conditions were 7.9 knots (9.1 mph or 14.6 kph) with the gear and the one adult referred to above, and 7.1 knots (8.2 mph or 13.2 kph) with two adults plus the gear.
I designed this boat to be powered by a 4 hp motor, but as these figures demonstrate, even a 2 hp motor can supply fine performance if the hull is designed for modest speed/length ratios.
In this case, the boat is running at a S/L ratio of approximately 2.2. If she had a 4 hp motor on her transom, I'd expect about 9 knots (10.4 mph or 16.7 kph). With the 9.8 hp Tohatsu, she easily exceeds 16 knots (18.4 mph or 29.5 kph)

Today we removed the piston rings from my kawasaki FH580V. This motor is off my exmark turf tracer. The mower started running at half power and had a consistent puff of white smoke coming out of the exhaust. This is a good indication of oil burning. We started taking things apart and ended up removing and dismantling the entire engine. I learned a lot from Hunter and Zack during this process. We ordered the piston rings and will have part 2 of this installing the rings and putting the mower back together.

Find the perfect centerline of inlet cam
Write your original LCA
Move yout crackshaft untill you reach your prefered tuned LCA
Count your new distribution timing and enjoy you new engine !

Formula One currently uses 1.6 litre four-stroke turbocharged 90 degree V6 reciprocating engines.[1]
The power a Formula One engine produces is generated by operating at a very high rotational speed, up to 15,000 revolutions per minute (RPM).[2] This contrasts with road car engines of a similar size which typically operate at less than 6,000 rpm. The basic configuration of a naturally aspirated Formula One engine had not been greatly modified since the 1967 Cosworth DFV and the mean effective pressure had stayed at around 14 bar MEP.[3] Until the mid-1980s Formula One engines were limited to around 12,000 rpm due to the traditional metal valve springs used to close the valves. The speed required to operate the engine valves at a higher RPM called for ever stiffer springs, which increased the power loss to drive the camshaft and the valves to the point where the loss nearly offset the power gain through the increase in rpm. They were replaced by pneumatic valve springs introduced by Renault,[4][5] which inherently have a rising rate (progressive rate) that allowed them to have extremely high spring rate at larger valve strokes without much increasing the driving power requirements at smaller strokes, thus lowering the overall power loss. Since the 1990s, all Formula One engine manufacturers used pneumatic valve springs with the pressurised air allowing engines to reach speeds of nearly 20,000 rpm.[5]
In addition to the use of pneumatic valve springs a Formula One engine's high RPM output has been made possible due to advances in metallurgy and design allowing lighter pistons and connecting rods to withstand the accelerations necessary to attain such high speeds, also by narrowing the connecting rod ends allowing for narrower main bearings. This allows for higher RPM with less bearing-damaging heat build-up. For each stroke, the piston goes from a null speed, to almost two times the mean speed, (approximately 40 m/s) then back to zero. This will occur four times for each of the four strokes in the cycle. Maximum piston acceleration occurs at top dead center and is in the region of 95,000 m/s2, about 10,000 times standard gravity or 10,000 g.
In 1966, with sports cars capable of outrunning Formula 1 cars thanks to much larger and more powerful engines, the FIA increased engine capacity to 3.0 L atmospheric and 1.5 L compressed engines. Although a few manufacturers had been clamouring for bigger engines, the transition wasn't smooth and 1966 was a transitional year, with 2.0 L versions of the BRM and Coventry-Climax V8 engines being used by several entrants. The appearance of the standard-produced Cosworth DFV in 1967 made it possible for small manufacturers to join the series with a chassis designed in-house. Compression devices were allowed for the first time since 1960, but it wasn't until 1977 until a company actually had the finance and interest of building one, when Renault debuted their new Gordini V6 Turbo at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone that year. It was in 1980 that Renault proved that turbocharging was the way to go in order to stay competitive in Formula One (particularly at high-altitude circuits like Kyalami in South Africa and Interlagos in Brazil) ; this engine had a considerable power advantage against the Ford-Cosworth DFV, Ferrari and Alfa Romeo naturally aspirated engines. Following this, Ferrari introduced their all-new turbocharged engine in 1981. Following these developments, Brabham owner Bernie Ecclestone managed to get BMW to make the team turbocharged inline-4 engines from 1982 onwards. And in 1983, Alfa Romeo made a turbocharged V8 engine, and in the same year and following years, Honda, Porsche (badged as TAG), Ford-Cosworth and other smaller companies made turbo-charged engines, mostly twin-turbocharged V6's. By the midpoint of 1985, every competing team had a turbocharged engine in their car. And by 1986, the power figures were becoming quite crazy- all of the engines had unrestricted turbo boost in qualifying, where they were developing 1,350+ hp at 5.5 bar boost (80 psi). These engines and gearboxes would only last about 2-3 laps, and for the race, the turbocharger's boost was restricted to ensure engine reliability; but the engines still produced 950-1000 hp during the race. Following their experiences at Indianapolis, in 1971 Lotus made a few unsuccessful experiments with a Pratt & Whitney turbine fitted to chassis which had also 4WD. The power range was between 390 hp (290 kW) to 500 hp (370 kW), turbos 500 hp (370 kW) to 900 hp (670 kW) in race, in qualifying up to 1,300 hp (970 kW).

In this video I (attempt to) repair the steering bracket of a Yamaha 50HP four stroke. The steering is completely seized and unfortunately turns out to be unrepairable so I'll be revisiting various methods of un-seizing outboard steering once the replacement unit arrives. There is still plenty see in this video relating to the disassembly of the mid section, but all up you couldn't call it a good day in the office with regards to the outcome...

Here we have a Kymco 50cc 4 stroke scooter. This is a video on installing the power up kit. Power up kit is a typical 139QMB big bore kit. Once finished, this 4 stroke will run with the stock 2 stroke scooters. This Kymco went from a top speed of 32 mph to 42 mph at 6000 feet of altitude. Also.. Torque was way up. Jetting was stock. For those at sea level, you may have to go one size larger on the main jet. Enjoy the video..
