After church in the French Concession, we took the subway to the LuJiaZui station on Line 2 (green). LuJiaZui is on the Pudong side of the Bund just steps away from the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Aquarium, Riverside Promenade and lots more.
It was super hot out, so we had dinner before exploring the area. We went to Element Fresh inside of Super Brand Mall. Element Fresh offers both Western and Asian menu options and has multiple locations throughout Shanghai. Although it's on the pricey side, the food is reliable and the ambiance first-rate.
From Element Fresh we walked to the Riverside Promenade to watch the sunset. It was beautiful. The Pudong side of the Bund is quieter than the Puxi side, which alone merits the visit. In addition to the tranquility, the Pudong side of the Bund offers its own unique views of the spectacular Shanghai city skyline.
The real reason we visited Lujiazui is so that Glo could take Tim to Flair, a bar on the 58th floor of the Ritz Carlton Hotel. In our opinion, Flair offers the best views of the Bund!
Tip: You can sit at Flair's indoor bar for free. Order whatever you like then take as much time as you want outside on the deck admiring the view, taking pictures, etc. If you want to sit outside on the deck, Flare charges a 400 RMB/person charge.

上海灘 (The Bund) is a 1980 Hong Kong drama TV series, starring Chow Yun-fat, Angie Chiu and Ray Lui. The series theme song, "Shanghai Beach," is very popular throughout Asia and originally was sung and made famous by Hong Kong singer Frances Yip. However, in this music clip, I am featuring the version by one of my favorite Hong Kong actors/singers/film producers, Andy Lau. Andy recorded this song in 1996.
'Though I've never watched this series, I've always liked its theme song. It's one of my all-time favorite Chinese melodies. I've translated the main meaning (thus, it's not a word-for-word translation) of the song into English to the best of my ability so that my AMP friends worldwide may have an understanding of what the song is about.
The song is sad, yet beautiful, isn't it? Love is surely like the tidal waves... and "my heart has endured enough of the raises and falls in love and in life..." as this song is referring to. How many of us can relate to that?
Chow Yun-fat's name also climbed to huge success with his role in this series. I hope you like this song, this video clip, and my interpretation of the song :) ~WhiteLibraTexas~

The Bund (simplified Chinese: 外滩; traditional Chinese: 外灘; Shanghainese: nga3thae1; Mandarin pinyin: Wàitān) is a waterfront area in central Shanghai, People's Republic of China. The area centres on a section of Zhongshan Road (East-1 Zhongshan Road) within the former Shanghai International Settlement, which runs along the western bank of the Huangpu River, facing Pudong, in the eastern part of Huangpu District. The Bund usually refers to the buildings and wharves on this section of the road, as well as some adjacent areas. It is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Shanghai. Building heights are restricted in this area.
The word "bund" means an embankment or an embanked quay. The word comes from the Hindi-Urdu word band, which has Persian origins and meant an embankment, levee or dam (a cognate of English terms "bind", "bond" and "band", and the German word "Bund", etc.). In Chinese port cities, the English term came to mean, especially, the embanked quay along the shore. In English, "Bund" is pronounced to rhyme with "fund".

After church in the French Concession, we took the subway to the LuJiaZui station on Line 2 (green). LuJiaZui is on the Pudong side of the Bund just steps away from the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Aquarium, Riverside Promenade and lots more.
It was super hot out, so we had dinner before exploring the area. We went to Element Fresh inside of Super Brand Mall. Element Fresh offers both Western and Asian menu options and has multiple locations throughout Shanghai. Although it's on the pricey side, the food is reliable and the ambiance first-rate.
From Element Fresh we walked to the Riverside Promenade to watch the sunset. It was beautiful. The Pudong side of the Bund is quieter than the Puxi side, which alone merits the visit. In addition to the tranquility, the Pudong side of the Bund offers its own unique views of the spectacular Shanghai city skyline.
The real reason we visited Lujiazui is so that Glo could take Tim to Flair, a bar on the 58th floor of the Ritz Carlton Hotel. In our opinion, Flair offers the best views of the Bund!
Tip: You can sit at Flair's indoor bar for free. Order whatever you like then take as much time as you want outside on the deck admiring the view, taking pictures, etc. If you want to sit outside on the deck, Flare charges a 400 RMB/person charge.

The series theme song, "Shanghai Beach," is very popular throughout Asia and originally was sung and made famous by Hong Kong singer Frances Yip. However, in this music clip, I am featuring the version by one of my favorite Hong Kong actors/singers/film producers, Andy Lau. Andy recorded this song in 1996.
'Though I've never watched this series, I've always liked its theme song. It's one of my all-time favorite Chinese melodies. I've translated the main meaning (thus, it's not a word-for-word translation) of the song into English to the best of my ability so that my AMP friends worldwide may have an understanding of what the song is about.
The song is sad, yet beautiful, isn't it? Love is surely like the tidal waves... and "my heart has endured enough of the raises and falls in love and in life..." as this song is referring to. How many of us can relate to that?
Chow Yun-fat's name also climbed to huge success with his role in this series. I hope you like this song, this video clip, and my interpretation of the song :) ~WhiteLibraTexas~
