The nickname of Yoandri Hernandez Garrido comes from the 6 flawlessly shaped fingers on each of hands and the 6 faultless toes on each foot. Garrido is proud of his extra digits and refers them to a blessing, saying that they set him apart from others and allow him to make a living by climbing trees to cut coconuts and posing for snapshots with tourists who frequent the eastern Cuban city. Referred to as polydactyly, Hernandez's condition is quite common; however, it is rare for the extra digits to become so perfect. He also said that, as a young boy, he was visited by a famous Cuban orthopedist who is also one of the doctors of Fidel Castro, and he affirmed that, in all his travel years, he had never come across such a case of shapely polydactyly. Hernandez, the only one in his family born with the condition, said that the doctor was very impressed when he saw his fingers. Nicknamed veinticuatro (twenty-four in English), Hernandez, now 37, said that his distinctiveness has made him a well-liked guy. He has a ten year old son with a woman who resides in Havana, and he is looking forward to his second child with his present girlfriend. Currently, he hopes he can be an example to young ones with polydactyly that there is nothing wrong with them.

Polydactyly or polydactylism (from Ancient Greek πολύς (polus) "many" + δάκτυλος (daktulos) "finger"), also known as hyperdactyly, is a congenital physical anomaly in humans, dogs, and cats having supernumerary fingers or toes.
The extra digit is usually a small piece of soft tissue that can be removed. Occasionally it contains bone without joints; rarely it may be a complete, functioning digit. The extra digit is most common on the ulnar (little finger) side of the hand, less common on the radial (thumb) side, and very rarely within the middle three digits. These are respectively known as postaxial (little finger), preaxial (thumb), and central (ring, middle, index fingers) polydactyly. The extra digit is most commonly an abnormal fork in an existing digit, or it may rarely originate at the wrist as a normal digit does.. The world record holder for highest number of digits is Akshat Saxena from Uttar Pradesh, India. He was born in 2010 with 7 digits on each hand and 10 digits on each foot, for a total of 34 digits.

Garrido is proud of his extra digits and refers them to a blessing, saying that they set him apart from others and allow him to make a living by climbing trees to cut coconuts and posing for snapshots with tourists who frequent the eastern Cuban city. Referred to as polydactyly, Hernandez's condition is quite common; however, it is rare for the extra digits to become so perfect. He also said that, as a young boy, he was visited by a famous Cuban orthopedist who is also one of the doctors of Fidel Castro, and he affirmed that, in all his travel years, he had never come across such a case of shapely polydactyly. Hernandez, the only one in his family born with the condition, said that the doctor was very impressed when he saw his fingers. Nicknamed veinticuatro (twenty-four in English), Hernandez, now 37, said that his distinctiveness has made him a well-liked guy. He has a ten year old son with a woman who resides in Havana, and he is looking forward to his second child with his present girlfriend. Currently, he hopes he can be an example to young ones with polydactyly that there is nothing wrong with them.

He was born with 12 finger and 12 toes. The extra fingers were not actually attached and they would just dangle around. The toes were completely attach and functional. Since I know this world is cruel I decided to remove all of them while he was still an infant. As a mother I never want to see my kids get rejected and eventually questioned by him to a decision to keep them. After he was born we found a Dr. Martin S. Lacey in the state of Minnesota specialist in hand, Plastic Surgery. The surgery was schedule at the age of 10 months. The night before the surgery we were order not to feed him anything after 10:00pm and the surgery was schedule for 8:00. We had to arrive around 6:00pm. The surgery did not take long 3 hours max , after the surgery he was in pain medicine but he was conscious and smiling. Since he was able to recover fast we were allow to leave by 12:00pm. The doctor said not to take bandages until after 3 days. After we got home he wanted to start crawling and stand like usual and he was able to but we decide to strap him to a bouncy chair for the rest of the day and the following. But by the third day he was back to normal crawling and walking while holding to things. It wasn't until 5 days that I was brave enough to take the bandages and the photo shows how it looked. He was taken to see the doctor after 7 days and everything looked normal. He scares are still there but they should fade by the age of 2 or 3 maybe. IT HAS ONLY BEEN 5 MONTHS. BORN APRIL 2011, SURGERY FEBRUARY 2012.
