If you visited my website a number of years ago, you may have come across a text file I wrote detailing the many mistakes made by the 1989 video game opus "The Wizard" - both factually and in presentation of the various games used. Here they are in video format.
(And yes, I know it's just a movie. I heartily enjoy this movie, as a matter of fact. Point is, 90% of the stuff in this video is stuff that any 9-year-old watching the movie at the time would've noticed as being blatantly wrong. They had a "Nintendo Consultant" on the payroll, for God's sake - they could have at least gotten the Zelda stuff right.)
It should be noted that this video only deals with things that are FACTUALLY wrong about the various games it depicts. There are plenty of other discrepancies in the film - like how they knew about the Warp Whistles when SMB3 had yet to be released, or how Spanky doesn't kill them all by oversteering his big rig on the drive to Universal Studios - but since those things either don't involve gameplay or cannot be irrefutably disproven, they're omitted.

The Wizard (also known as Joy Stick Heroes in Germany, Sweet Road in Japan, The Video Game Genius in Brazil, Vidéokid in France, Game Over in Finland and Gameboy in Sweden) is a 1989 adventure comedy-drama film starring Fred Savage, Luke Edwards, and Jenny Lewis. The film follows three children as they travel to California. The youngest of the three is emotionally withdrawn with a gift for playing video games. The Wizard is famous for its numerous references to video games and accessories for the Nintendo Entertainment System and has been called a feature length commercial. The film was also well known for being North America's introduction to what would become one of the best-selling video games of all time, Super Mario Bros. 3.
Jimmy (Edwards) is a young boy who has suffered from an unnamed, but serious mental disorder (strongly implied to be autism) ever since his twin sister drowned in a river. He doesn't interact with anyone, spending most of his time building things out of blocks or boxes, and he always carries his lunch box with him. He's determined to go to "California", at first the only word he can say since the tragedy. The trauma of the drowning and Jimmy's condition has broken up his family: he lives with his mother and stepfather, while his half-brothers Corey (Savage) and Nick (Christian Slater) live with their father Sam (Beau Bridges). When Jimmy is put into an institution, Corey breaks him out and runs away with him to California. Jimmy's mother and stepfather hire Putnam (Will Seltzer), a greedy and sleazy runaway-child hunter, to only bring back Jimmy, who competes with Corey's father and older brother to find the boys and sabotage each other's efforts.

If you visited my website a number of years ago, you may have come across a text file I wrote detailing the many mistakes made by the 1989 video game opus "The Wizard" - both factually and in presentation of the various games used. Here they are in video format. (And yes, I know it's just a movie. I heartily enjoy this movie, as a matter of fact.
