This week, I check in with some local WA leaders within the organics sector to share their stories as a special focus in recognition of National Organic Week (NOW). GUEST SPEAKERS: Linda Chatwin @ Bodyscents, Willow and Ria @ The Organic Circle, Barry Green @ Boronia Farm Linda Chatwin – has her own skin care range of natural and organic products that are created right here in Kalamunda. Willow and Ria - are the owners of my favourite little local café called The Organic Circle. Barry Green - is based in Donnybrook on Boronia Farm. He has been following organic farming principles for 23 years, and has been certified for the last 15 years. On his farm you will find cattle, apples and plums. Barry is also on the Advisory Committee for the Natural health and Eco Lifestyle Expo and has several other ventures including the Tourist Radio Network in the south west. Organic food was once a rare-ity, found only in health food stores. But as we are seeing a great increase in food allergies and this is making us search for new solutions with a lot of people turning to the organics sector for answers. The consumer is driving the demand and in this case, organics are becoming more readily readily available and accessible. Some even refer to organics as “the way food used to be” • Organics is 100% natural • No synthetics • No harmful preservatives • Organic farmers work hard to build strong lands for a sustainable food production system in to the future • Certified organic food production must account for animal welfare, land restoration and re-vegetation. • Organic market considers not just financial, but environmental and social returns. Almost 2 in 3 Australian have bought organic in the past year with the industry worth $1.27 billion to Australia – and this is predicted to grow by up to 15% each year. We are seeing a great increase in food allergies and this is making us search for new solutions with a lot of people turning to the organics sector for answers. Eliminating the processed foods, additives and toxins from our diet is the start to improving your health and wellbeing and giving yourself a great new platform to build on.
