Rochford is a local government district in Essex, England. It is named for one of its main settlements, Rochford, though the major centre of population in the district is the town of Rayleigh. Other places in the district include Hockley, Ashingdon, Great Wakering, Canewdon and Hullbridge.
It was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of the Rayleigh Urban District and the Rochford Rural District.
Rochford District is twinned with the German town of Haltern.
In October 2009 the Rochford District was commended at a national level for its outstanding progress in boosting domestic recycling rates from "below 20 per cent to nearly 70 per cent", in the National Recycling Awards. Rochford District was nominated in the Local Authority Target Success category, and beat four other short-listed local authorities to claim the award.
In May 2006 a report commissioned by British Gas showed that housing in the district of Rochford produced the 9th highest average carbon emissions in the country at 7,219 kg of carbon dioxide per dwelling.

Rochford is a town in the Rochford district of Essex in the East of England. It is sited about 43 miles (69 km) from Central London and approximately 21 miles (34 km) from the Essex county town, Chelmsford. According to the 2001 census the civil parish of Rochford, which includes the town proper, and London Southend Airport, had a population of 7,610, increasing to 8,471 at the 2011 Census.
The town is the main settlement in the Rochford district, and takes its name from Rochefort, Old English for Ford of the Hunting Dogs. The River Roach was originally called the Walfleet (Creek of the foreigners). It was renamed the Roach in what is known as a back formation. This is where it is assumed that Rochford means ford over the River Roach so they renamed the river to fit the theory. The town runs into suburban developments in the parishes of Ashingdon and Hawkwell. Kings Hill, in Rochford, was notable for containing the Lawless Court up until the 19th century.
A district is a type of administrative division that, in some countries, is managed by local government. Across the world, areas known as "districts" vary greatly in size, spanning entire regions or counties, several municipalities, subdivisions of municipalities, school district, or political district.
In Afghanistan, a district (Persian / Pashto: ولسوالۍ Wuleswali) is a subdivision of a province. There are almost 400 districts in the country.
Electoral districts are used in state elections. Districts were also used in several states as cadastral units for land titles. Some were used as squatting districts. New South Wales had several different types of districts used in the 21st century.
In Austria, a district (Bezirk) is an administrative division normally encompassing several municipalities, roughly equivalent to the Landkreis in Germany. The administrative office of a district, the Bezirkshauptmannschaft, is headed by a Bezirkshauptmann. It is in charge of the administration of all matters of federal and state administrative law and subject to orders from the higher instances, usually the Landeshauptmann (governor) in matters of federal law and the Landesregierung (state government) in state law. While there are matters of administrative law the municipalities themselves are in charge of, or where there are special bodies, the district is the basic unit of general administration in Austria. Officials on the district level are not elected, but appointed by the state government. There are also independent cities in Austria. They are called Statutarstadt in Austrian administrative law. These urban districts do have the same tasks as a normal district.

Castle Point is a local government District with borough status in south Essex, centred 29.8 miles (48 km) from London. The Borough comprises the towns and villages of Canvey Island, Hadleigh, South Benfleet, and Thundersley, the site of the council headquarters.
The national land use survey carried out for the following census in 2005 by the Office for National Statistics showed over 50% (27.070 square kilometres (10 sq mi)) of the borough to be within its non-gardens definition of green space: here a mixture of agricultural fields, natural marshland and sports grounds/courses and to have the second lowest area in England covered by non-domestic buildings: 0.55 square kilometres (0.21 sq mi). More than one fifth of the area, 9.6 square kilometres (3.7 sq mi), was made up by the second-highest category of use: gardens. The district ranked 295th in area of the 325 districts in England in area. The district relies heavily on other parts of Essex including factories and ports in Tilbury, the large town of Southend on Sea and on Central London for its largest sources of employment and as it has areas of seaside resort the median age of residents was in 2011 greater than the national average: 7% of its residents were aged 75 to 84 compared with 5.5% nationally.
