Duxford is a village in Cambridgeshire, England, about 10 miles (16 km) south of Cambridge.
The village formed on the banks of the River Cam, a little below its emergence from the hills of north Essex. One of the more populous settlements in its hundred it was split into two ecclesiastical parishes in medieval times until they were united in 1874.
Originally known as Duxworth and listed as Dukeswrthe in the 10th century, and Dochesuuorde in the Domesday Book the village's name comes from "Worth (enclosure) of a man called Duc".
From medieval times the village was unusual in possessing two parish churches, each with a separate incumbent.
The church of St John the Baptist, as it's been known since at least 1260, consists of a chancel and north chapel, a central tower and a nave with north aisle and south porch. The chancel, nave and lower part of the tower were all built in the 12th century, with the tower raised in the 13th century. By the 1860s the building was in disrepair and after the parishes were merged in 1874, the church fell into disuse, and became increasingly dilapidated during the 20th century, despite receiving a new roof and stone floor in the 1960s. Since 1979 it has been run by the Churches Conservation Trust.
The Flying Legends is a two day airshow, held at Duxford Aerodrome in Cambridgeshire, England at the beginning of July every year.
The airshow features only warbird and vintage aircraft, such as the Supermarine Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane, North American P-51 Mustang and resident Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress Sally B. It is run by The Fighter Collection, which is based at Duxford.
The War Museum of Thessaloniki (Greek: Πολεμικό Μουσείο Θεσσαλονίκης) is a military museum in Thessaloniki, Central Macedonia, Greece. Thessaloniki War Museum opened its doors to the public in October 2000. It is housed in the building designed by architect Vitaliano Posseli and erected between 1900 and 1902.
The museum’s mission is to act as a base in Northern Greece for events organized by the War Museum in Athens and to help preserve historical memory and heritage in Northern Greece. Through its permanent exhibitions and various dedicatory exhibitions, the museum emphasizes the continuation of the Hellenic race throughout history, while simultaneously contributing to the documentation of the history of Greece at war.
The permanent collections show events which were a watershed in Modern Greek history from the turn of the 20th century to the liberation of Greece from German forces at the end of World War II. They include photographs of the times, Greek army, air force and navy uniforms, weapons of the Greek army, replicas of artillery and ships, works of art, stone engravings, maps, paintings, postcards, and similar items from the armies of other Balkan countries.
Imperial War Museums (IWM) is a British national museum organisation with branches at five locations in England, three of which are in London. Founded as the Imperial War Museum in 1917, the museum was intended to record the civil and military war effort and sacrifice of Britain and its Empire during the First World War. The museum's remit has since expanded to include all conflicts in which British or Commonwealth forces have been involved since 1914. As of 2012, the museum aims 'to provide for, and to encourage, the study and understanding of the history of modern war and "wartime experience"'.
Imperial War Museum Duxford is a branch of the Imperial War Museum near Duxford in Cambridgeshire, England. Britain's largest aviation museum, Duxford houses the museum's large exhibits, including nearly 200 aircraft, military vehicles, artillery and minor naval vessels in seven main exhibition buildings. The site also provides storage space for the museum's other collections of material such as film, photographs, documents, books and artefacts. The site accommodates several British Army regimental museums, including those of the Parachute Regiment (named Airborne Assault) and the Royal Anglian Regiment.
Based on the historic Duxford Aerodrome, the site was originally operated by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the First World War. During the Second World War Duxford played a prominent role during the Battle of Britain and was later used by United States Army Air Forces fighter units in support of the daylight bombing of Germany. Duxford remained an active RAF airfield until 1961. After the Ministry of Defence declared the site surplus to requirements in 1969 the Imperial War Museum received permission to use part of the site for storage. The entirety of the site was transferred to the museum in February 1976.

Duxford Flying Legends 2017 - Highlights
The first of the Imperial War Museum (IWM) Duxford's airshows for the 2016 season was themed, somewhat loosely, around American Aviation. Nonetheless, as with most IWM Duxford Airshow's it was well worth attending and a marvellous day out for young and old aviation enthusiasts alike. The weather was reasonably good as well, although somewhat cloudy, but then any UK airshow where rain does not intervene can be considered lucky. Here is the majority of the show, which I hope you will enjoy. Pre show:- 00.00.22 - 1943 North American T-6G Texan, 49-3209/G-DDMV 00.00.47 - 1944 Vickers Supermarine Spitfire HFIX, TD314/G-CGYJ 00.00.57 - Bell UH-1H Iroquois 'Huey', 72-21509/G-UHIH 00.03.27 - 1943 de Havilland DH-89A Dragon Rapide, HG691/G-AIYR 00.04.12 - AFV432 (Medical) Armoured Personnel Car...
Excuse the noise and shakiness as a very windy day it turned out to be, grounding some aircraft in part of the show. Here are the highlights of the Saturday's show. Sadly the Sea Vixen had to belly land back at its base at Yeovilton due to a hyrdraulic issue after the display. Enjoy!

IWM Duxford visit 2013 on the Friday before the big airshow on the weekend - this shows the arrival of the B25 and Spitfires as the weather was closing in.
On the outskirts of town, there's a little night spot
Dan dropped in about five o'clock
Took off his coat, said "The night is short"
He reached in his pocket and he flashed a quart
He hollered, "Rave on, children, I'm with ya
Rave on, cats," he cried
"It's almost dawn, the cops is gone
Let's all get Dixie fried"
Well, Dan got happy and he started raving
He pulled out a razor but he wasn't shaving
And all the cats knew to jump and hop
'Cause he was born and raised in a butcher shop
He hollered, "Rave on, children, I'm with ya
Rave on, cats," he cried
"It's almost dawn, the cops is gone
Let's all get Dixie fried, fried, fried, yeah"
The cops heard Dan when he started to shout
They all ran in to see what it was about
And I heard him holler as they led him away
He turned his head and this is what he had to say
He hollered, "Rave on, children, I'm with ya
Rave on, cats," he cried
"It's almost dawn, the cops is gone
Let's all get Dixie fried, fried, fried, [?]
Now, Dan was the bravest man that we ever saw
He let us all know he wasn't scared of the law
And through The black crossed bar he tossed a note to
his dear
"It ain't my fault, sugar, that I'm in here"
For hollering, "Rave on, children, I'm with you
Rave on, cats," he cried
"It's almost dawn, the cops ain't gone
