Öland

Öland (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈøːland]) is the second largest Swedish island and the smallest of the traditional provinces of Sweden. Öland has an area of 1,342 km² and is located in the Baltic Sea just off the coast of Småland. The island has 25,000 inhabitants. It is separated from the mainland by the Kalmar Strait and connected to it by the 6-km Öland Bridge, which opened on 30 September in 1972.

Administration

The traditional provinces of Sweden no longer serve administrative or political purposes but still exist as historical and cultural entities. Öland is part of the administrative county of Kalmar County (Kalmar län) and consists of the two municipalities of Borgholm Municipality and Mörbylånga Municipality. There was an Öland County in the short period between 1819 and 1826; otherwise, the island has been part of Kalmar County since 1634.

Heraldry

Öland was granted provincial arms in 1560, but it would not be until the 1940s that the province was assigned its proper ones. The arms granted to Öland had been mixed up with the arms granted to Åland and this was not discovered until the 20th century. While Öland changed its coat of arms, Åland, which was now a Finnish (autonomous) province, kept its established but originally unintended coat of arms. The deer is meant to symbolise the status of Öland as a royal game park and the arms are topped by a ducal crown. Blazon: "Azure a Deer Or attired, hoofed and gorged Gules."

Oh Land

Nanna Øland Fabricius (born 2 May 1985), better known by her stage name Oh Land, is a Danish singer-songwriter and record producer. She resides in Brooklyn, New York City.

Career

2008–11: Debut, Fauna and Oh Land

Oh Land's debut album, Fauna, was released in her native Denmark on 10 November 2008 by Danish independent label Fake Diamond Records. For her eponymous follow-up album, she worked with producers Dan Carey, Dave McCracken and Lester Mendez. The album was released on 14 March 2011 and peaked at number five on the Danish Albums Chart. It also served as her debut in the United States, where it was released on 15 March 2011 by Epic Records, reaching number 184 on the Billboard 200 chart. An EP with the same name was previously released on 19 October 2010, containing four tracks from the full-length album. On 7 April 2011, she was given the Brink of Fame: Music Artist award at the 2011 NewNowNext Awards.

Oh Land made her US television debut performance on Late Show with David Letterman on 2 March 2011 performing her single "Sun of a Gun". She also performed it on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on 24 March 2011 and on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on 25 May. Oh Land toured North America as the supporting act for Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark in March 2011, and supported Sia on North American dates of her We Are Born tour in July and August 2011. She also opened for Katy Perry on select US dates of her California Dreams Tour in August 2011, and joined Perry again in October and November on the tour's second leg in the UK and Ireland. As an actress, Oh Land had a supporting role as Sara in the 2007 Danish psychological drama film Hvid nat. Her song 'Speak Out Now' was used as the theme for the TV series Rita starting in 2012.

Murder of Richard Oland

The Killing of Richard Oland occurred on July 6, 2011. Richard Oland, a New Brunswick businessman and member of the Order of Canada, was found dead in his Saint John, New Brunswick office on July 7, 2011. His son, Dennis Oland, has been charged with second degree murder. On December 19, 2015, Dennis Oland was found guilty of second degree murder. At his sentencing hearing on February 11, 2016, Dennis Oland was sentenced to life in prison, with no possibility of parole for a minimum of 10 years

Death

On July 7, 2011, Richard Oland's body was found in his office in Uptown Saint John. The Toronto Star reported that he was bludgeoned to death with an axe. In point of fact, "the pathologist who performed the autopsy on Richard Oland's body could not determine what weapon — or weapons — were used to kill him." Oland suffered 40 sharp and blunt force injuries to his head and neck and six defensive wounds to his hands. Oland had last been seen at 6 p.m. the previous evening.

Chris Crocker

Chris Crocker is an American Internet celebrity, blogger, songwriter, recording artist and former pornographic film actor. Crocker gained international fame in September 2007 from his viral video "Leave Britney Alone!", in which he tearfully defended pop singer Britney Spears' comeback performance at the MTV Video Music Awards; his video had over four million views in two days. The video received international media attention, hundreds of parodies and criticism for Crocker.

Producing and acting in his own videos, Crocker is a self-described edutainer. In almost all of his adolescent works, he presents himself as an openly gay and effeminate Southerner in a "small-minded town" in the Bible Belt.
