A Sailing Yacht (SY or S/Y) is a ship prefix used to identify a vessel that is privately owned and uses sails as its primary means of propulsion.
The category of classes sailing yacht is among those officially recognized by the International Sailing Federation. This category includes within it the sailing boats that exceed 30 feet (over 9 meters), so in all respects similar to a yacht.
Sailing yachts can range in overall length (Length Over All—LOA) from about 6 metres (20 ft) to well over 30 metres (98 ft), where the distinction between a yacht and a ship becomes blurred. Most privately owned yachts fall in the range of about 7–14 metres (23–46 ft); the cost of building and keeping a yacht rises quickly as length increases. In the United States, sailors tend to refer to smaller yachts as sailboats, while referring to the general sport of sailing as yachting. Within the limited context of sailboat racing, a yacht is any sailing vessel taking part in a race, regardless of size.
A yacht /ˈjɒt/ is a recreational boat or ship. The term originates from the Dutch word jacht "hunt", and was originally defined as a light fast sailing vessel used by the Dutch navy to pursue pirates and other transgressors around and into the shallow waters of the Low Countries. After its selection by Charles II of England as the vessel to carry him to England from the Netherlands for his restoration in 1660, it came to be used to mean a vessel used to convey important persons.
Modern use of the term designates two different classes of watercraft, sailing and power boats. Yachts differ from working ships mainly by their leisure purpose, and it was not until the rise of the steamboat and other types of powerboat that sailing vessels in general came to be perceived as luxury, or recreational vessels. Later the term came to encompass motor boats for primarily private pleasure purposes as well.
Yacht lengths generally range from 10 metres (33 ft) up to dozens of meters (hundreds of feet). A luxury craft smaller than 12 metres (39 ft) is more commonly called a cabin cruiser or simply a cruiser. A superyacht generally refers to any yacht (sail or power) above 24 m (79 ft) and a megayacht generally refers to any yacht over 50 metres (164 ft). This size is small in relation to typical cruise liners and oil tankers.
Sailing comprises wind propulsion of a craft by means of sails and steering it over water, ice or land, depending on the type of craft. A sailor manages the force of the wind on the sails by adjusting their angle with respect to the moving sailing craft and sometimes by adjusting the sail area. The force transmitted from the sails is resisted by forces from the hull, keel, and rudder of a sailing craft, by forces from skate runners for an iceboat, and by forces from wheels for a land sailing craft to allow steering a course on a point of sail with respect to the true wind.
While there are still some places in the world where sail-powered passenger, fishing and trading vessels are used, these craft have become rarer as internal combustion engines have become economically viable in even the poorest and most remote areas. In most countries sailing is enjoyed as a recreational activity or as a sport. Recreational sailing or yachting can be divided into racing and cruising. Cruising can include extended offshore and ocean-crossing trips, coastal sailing within sight of land, and daysailing.
The Strait of Bonifacio (Corsican: Bucchi di Bunifaziu, Ligurian: Bocche de Bunifazziu, French: Bouches de Bonifacio, Gallurese: Bocchi di Bunifaciu, Italian: Bocche di Bonifacio) is the strait between Corsica and Sardinia, named after the Corsican town Bonifacio. It is 11 km (6.8 mi) wide and divides the Tyrrhenian Sea from the western Mediterranean Sea. The strait is notorious among sailors for its weather, currents, shoals, and other obstacles.
The most famous disaster in the Strait of Bonifacio was that of the French frigate Sémillante on February 15, 1855. Sémillante had left the port of Toulon the day before on its way into the Black Sea to supply the Crimean War with troops. A storm caused it to hit a reef; the ship sank and none of the 750 soldiers on board survived.
After a tanker disaster in 1993, the passage through the Strait of Bonifacio has been prohibited for French and Italian flag ships with dangerous goods. Passage for ships with dangerous goods sailing under other flags is strongly discouraged and subject to mandatory piloting.

http://www.kielisreal.de/content/740-White-Pearl-geht-auf-Probefahrt-auf-der-Kieler-Förde The largest sailing yacht with 144m and 3 carbon fiber masts (300ft high! 91m) is built by the German Naval Yards shipyard in Kiel for the russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko. Le 'White Pearl', comme il a été baptisé, se préparait ce lundi matin à quitter le port allemand de Kiel, en bordure de la mer Baltique, pour effectuer son premier voyage test.
While crossing the Strait of Bonifacio in late September 2015 on our Oyster 53 sailing yacht, we encountered Force 9.5 sustained (40-50 knot) winds and 20-25 foot (7-8 meter) seas. We expected 38 knots while threading the needle between two storm systems, but instead... we got a little more. Please enjoy the ride! The Strait of Bonifacio is the passage between Corsica and Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea.

Plant gave a wonderful design brief: build me a schooner that can win! Herreshoff gave Elena a slightly deeper keel than preceding designs of that time, lowering her centre of ballast, which improved her windward ability. Fresh out of the shed, Elena won most of her early races against the cream of the American schooner fleet. Seventeen years later came her crowning glory - victory in the 1928 Trans-Atlantic Race.
Yacht in Storm | Sailing Wild Waves The most common Yacht fall into storms and hurricanes in the western Atlantic. The most dangerous area is located between the sailing center of New England and Bermuda , Florida and the Caribbean. Yachtsmen from Bermuda say that in the winter in the Atlantic are found severe storms , which are no less dangerous than hurricanes . Such storms can last for three days with wind of 85 knots , which is much greater than the force of a hurricane. Yachts can not always come out unscathed from such severe storms. This storm has once again confirmed that the wind and waves to predict the hurricane force of events impossible. Musikero
BY SALING KET with REY VALERA
Verse1
T'wing naririnig and kanta ng gitara
Naaalala ko ang landas ng aking ama
Buhay musikero minana sa kanya
Verse2
Sinubok ko na rin na sundin ang sarili
Baka ang musika ay hindi para sa'kin
Ngunit pag may awit, tinatawag ako
Chorus
Naririto ako pinili'y landas ng musika
Naririto ako tinagay sa landas ng musika
At ang bilin nya mangarap ako
At tangapin buhay na ganito
Isang musikerong await sa inyo
Ang buhay ko
Naririto ako, at ngayon
Ay nasasakyan ko na, na ito
Ang buhay ko
Di ko napansin ang pagihip ng hangin
Tinatangay ako sa landas na ito
Ito ang aking awit, ito ang buhay ko
Chorus
Naririto ako pinili'y landas ng musika
Naririto ako tinagay sa landas ng musika
At ang bilin nya mangarap ako
At tangapin buhay na ganito
Isang musikerong aawit sa inyo
Naririto ako, at ngayon
Ay nasasakyan ko na, na ito
