Auckland Alloy Yachts have confirmed another order for a new super yacht - one of three it's working on for overseas buyers.
Alloy Yachts has 300 employees... in fact it employs more people than the Kawerau paper mill.
So it's more good news for the marine industry, which employs over 10,000 people and brings in export earnings of almost a billion dollars.
Natasha Smith visited Circa Marine and Industrial in Whangarei, and found it facing a rare dilemma in today's economic climate - it can't find enough staff to keep up with its orders.

Held on June 18, 2016, the 3rd Annual Marine Industry Day is a family-oriented event aimed at celebrating the region’s marine industry through a variety of fun, interactive experiences. It features live music, food trucks, children’s activities, numerous marine-related activities, water taxi tours, educational games and much more.
Marine Industry Day is open to anyone who is in the marine industry or anyone who would like to learn more about it. There is no cost to attend.
Held at Esplanade park in downtown Fort Lauderdale with Go Riverwalk, the event is organized and sponsored by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida and the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, with support from the U.S. Superyacht Association, Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and Young Professionals in Yachting.
Marine Industry Day also builds awareness of our industry on local, state, and federal levels. The Marine Industry Day celebration is a gathering of Broward County’s diverse marine industry workforce and families who comprise the foundation of Broward’s number one economic driver.
More than 1,500 people attended Marine Industry Day last year, which featured more than 25 interactive and educational exhibits. Businesses that participated included Nova Southeastern University, IGFA, Frank & Jimmie’s Propeller, Marine Industries Cares Foundation, Regent Bank, Land N’ Sea, BlueFoot Pirate Adventures, Maritime Professional Training, Museum of Discovery and Science, Beard Marine, Bradford Marine, Carefree Boat Club Dockside Corporate Services and FAU Athletics.

Ship transport
Ship transport is watercraft carrying people (passengers) or goods (cargo).
Sea transport has been the largest carrier of freight throughout recorded history. Although the importance of sea travel for passengers has decreased due to aviation, it is effective for short trips and pleasure cruises. Transport by water is cheaper than transport by air, despite fluctuating exchange rates and CAF charges to account for such.
Ship transport can be over any distance by boat, ship, sailboat or barge, over oceans and lakes, through canals or along rivers. Shipping may be for commerce, recreation or the military purpose. Virtually any material can be moved by water; however, water transport becomes impractical when material delivery is highly time-critical.
Containerization revolutionized ship transport starting in the 1970s. "General cargo" includes goods packaged in boxes, cases, pallets, and barrels. When a cargo is carried in more than one mode, it is intermodal or co-modal.

It features live music, food trucks, children’s activities, numerous marine-related activities, water taxi tours, educational games and much more.
Marine Industry Day is open to anyone who is in the marine industry or anyone who would like to learn more about it. There is no cost to attend.
Held at Esplanade park in downtown Fort Lauderdale with Go Riverwalk, the event is organized and sponsored by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida and the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, with support from the U.S. Superyacht Association, Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and Young Professionals in Yachting.
Marine Industry Day also builds awareness of our industry on local, state, and federal levels. The Marine Industry Day celebration is a gathering of Broward County’s diverse marine industry workforce and families who comprise the foundation of Broward’s number one economic driver.
More than 1,500 people attended Marine Industry Day last year, which featured more than 25 interactive and educational exhibits. Businesses that participated included Nova Southeastern University, IGFA, Frank & Jimmie’s Propeller, Marine Industries Cares Foundation, Regent Bank, Land N’ Sea, BlueFoot Pirate Adventures, Maritime Professional Training, Museum of Discovery and Science, Beard Marine, Bradford Marine, Carefree Boat Club Dockside Corporate Services and FAU Athletics.
