A list of the top ten oldest living verified people, as of 1 January 2017.
So the average human life span is about 71 years, and typically females live about 5 years longer than males.
While you can certainly extend your life by living a healthy lifestyle, to ever get as old as these next 5 people is extremely unlikely.
So in this list I'll be showing you the 5 oldest confirmed people ever to have lived.

5) Misao Okawa
Misao Okawa from Japan lived to a staggering 117 years and 27 days.
Born in Osaka, Japan on the 5th march 1898, she married but her husband died all the way back in 1931.
She did however have 3 children with her late husband, two of which are still alive today.
Misao has jokingly said she wonders how she managed to live to long and has credited Sushi and lots of sleep as her secret.
Up until the age of 110 she was still walking freely but started using a wheelchair to prevent potentially fatal falls.
However she was still able to propel herself using the wheelchair.
On the 1st of April 2015 she sadly passed away from heart failure.
4) Marie-Louise Meilleur
Born in Quebec, Canada in 1880 Marie-Louise lived a whole 117 years and 230 days.
She was French Canadian, married twice and had 10 children.
She has 85 grandchildren, 80 great grand children, 57 great-great-grandchildren, and four great-great-great-grandchildren.
Despite being a smoker until she was 90 years old, she still defied all the odds and briefly became the oldest living person alive.
At the time of her death she was living in a nursing home along with one of her sons and her oldest daughter.
She sadly passed away April 16, 1998 from a blood clot.
3) Lucy Hannah
Not much is known about Lucy Hannah, however she was born on July 16th 1870 in Alabama, U.S.A
She was African American, and lived an amazing 117 years and 248 days making her beat Marie Louise Meilleur by only 18 days.
While she was never the oldest person alive or the oldest American, she is however the oldest verified African American ever to have lived.
She sadly passed away on March 21st 1993.
2) Sarah Knauss
Sarah Knauss holds the title as the oldest American ever to have lived.
Living an incredible 119 years and 97 days.
Born on September 24, 1880 in Pennsylvania, she was a housewife and also a manager at an insurance agency.
Knauss lived through seven wars involving the U.S. and the administrations of 23 presidents.
When she became famous for being oldest living person in 1998, her response to her new found fame was "So what"
She credits not letting things upset her as the secret for her long life.
On 30th December 1999 she sadly passed away.
However if she lived just another 33 hours she would have lived in 3 different centuries.
At her death, she was one of seven living generations of her family.

Jeanne Calment is the oldest verified person ever to have lived.
She lived an incredible 122 years and 164 days.
Making her the only person ever to have reached 120, 121 and 122 years old.
She was born in France on the 21st of February 1875.
At the age of 21 she married a wealthy store owner, allowing her to life a life of somewhat luxury.
In her own words she says she was never a health fanatic and even smoked 2 cigarettes a day from the age of 21 to 117.
She was in good shape for most of her life, even living by herself until she was 110 years old.
She could even walk freely up until 114, however she fractured her leg which required surgery.
After that she used a wheel chair.
She credits olive oil, wine and chocolate as the secret to her long life, along with always remaining calm and never letting anything stress her out.
She lived so long that she outlived her daughter and grandson by several decades.
However on the 4th of August 1997 she did sadly pass away, however her amazing record will certainly live on for a very long time.

5) Misao Okawa
Misao Okawa from Japan lived to a staggering 117 years and 27 days.
Born in Osaka, Japan on the 5th march 1898, she married but her husband died all the way back in 1931.
She did however have 3 children with her late husband, two of which are still alive today.
Misao has jokingly said she wonders how she managed to live to long and has credited Sushi and lots of sleep as her secret.
Up until the age of 110 she was still walking freely but started using a wheelchair to prevent potentially fatal falls.
However she was still able to propel herself using the wheelchair.
On the 1st of April 2015 she sadly passed away from heart failure.
4) Marie-Louise Meilleur
Born in Quebec, Canada in 1880 Marie-Louise lived a whole 117 years and 230 days.
She was French Canadian, married twice and had 10 children.
She has 85 grandchildren, 80 great grand children, 57 great-great-grandchildren, and four great-great-great-grandchildren.
Despite being a smoker until she was 90 years old, she still defied all the odds and briefly became the oldest living person alive.
At the time of her death she was living in a nursing home along with one of her sons and her oldest daughter.
She sadly passed away April 16, 1998 from a blood clot.
3) Lucy Hannah
Not much is known about Lucy Hannah, however she was born on July 16th 1870 in Alabama, U.S.A
She was African American, and lived an amazing 117 years and 248 days making her beat Marie Louise Meilleur by only 18 days.
While she was never the oldest person alive or the oldest American, she is however the oldest verified African American ever to have lived.
She sadly passed away on March 21st 1993.
2) Sarah Knauss
Sarah Knauss holds the title as the oldest American ever to have lived.
Living an incredible 119 years and 97 days.
Born on September 24, 1880 in Pennsylvania, she was a housewife and also a manager at an insurance agency.
Knauss lived through seven wars involving the U.S. and the administrations of 23 presidents.
When she became famous for being oldest living person in 1998, her response to her new found fame was "So what"
She credits not letting things upset her as the secret for her long life.
On 30th December 1999 she sadly passed away.
However if she lived just another 33 hours she would have lived in 3 different centuries.
At her death, she was one of seven living generations of her family.

She credits olive oil, wine and chocolate as the secret to her long life, along with always remaining calm and never letting anything stress her out.

5) Misao Okawa
Misao Okawa from Japan lived to a staggering 117 years and 27 days.
Born in Osaka, Japan on the 5th march 1898, she married but her husband died all the way back in 1931.
She did however have 3 children with her late husband, two of which are still alive today.
Misao has jokingly said she wonders how she managed to live to long and has credited Sushi and lots of sleep as her secret.
Up until the age of 110 she was still walking freely but started using a wheelchair to prevent potentially fatal falls.
However she was still able to propel herself using the wheelchair.
On the 1st of April 2015 she sadly passed away from heart failure.

Born in Quebec, Canada in 1880 Marie-Louise lived a whole 117 years and 230 days.
She was French Canadian, married twice and had 10 children.
She has 85 grandchildren, 80 great grand children, 57 great-great-grandchildren, and four great-great-great-grandchildren.
Despite being a smoker until she was 90 years old, she still defied all the odds and briefly became the oldest living person alive.
At the time of her death she was living in a nursing home along with one of her sons and her oldest daughter.
She sadly passed away April 16, 1998 from a blood clot.
3) Lucy Hannah
Not much is known about Lucy Hannah, however she was born on July 16th 1870 in Alabama, U.S.A
She was African American, and lived an amazing 117 years and 248 days making her beat Marie Louise Meilleur by only 18 days.
While she was never the oldest person alive or the oldest American, she is however the oldest verified African American ever to have lived.
She sadly passed away on March 21st 1993.
2) Sarah Knauss
Sarah Knauss holds the title as the oldest American ever to have lived.
Living an incredible 119 years and 97 days.
Born on September 24, 1880 in Pennsylvania, she was a housewife and also a manager at an insurance agency.
Knauss lived through seven wars involving the U.S. and the administrations of 23 presidents.
When she became famous for being oldest living person in 1998, her response to her new found fame was "So what"
She credits not letting things upset her as the secret for her long life.
On 30th December 1999 she sadly passed away.
However if she lived just another 33 hours she would have lived in 3 different centuries.
At her death, she was one of seven living generations of her family.

Misao Okawa from Japan lived to a staggering 117 years and 27 days.
Born in Osaka, Japan on the 5th march 1898, she married but her husband died all the way back in 1931.
She did however have 3 children with her late husband, two of which are still alive today.
Misao has jokingly said she wonders how she managed to live to long and has credited Sushi and lots of sleep as her secret.
Up until the age of 110 she was still walking freely but started using a wheelchair to prevent potentially fatal falls.
However she was still able to propel herself using the wheelchair.
On the 1st of April 2015 she sadly passed away from heart failure.
