Asus (styled as ASUS, officially ASUSTeK Computer Inc.) (/ˈeɪsʊs/) is a Taiwanese multinational computer hardware and electronics company headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan. Its products include motherboards, desktops, laptops, monitors, tablet PCs, servers, video cards and mobile phones. It primarily sells products under its own brand but also produces components for other manufacturers, including Apple, Dell and HP.
Asus is the world's fifth-largest PC vendor by 2011 unit sales (after HP, Lenovo, Dell and Acer). Asus appears in BusinessWeek’s "InfoTech 100" and "Asia’s Top 10 IT Companies" rankings. Wall Street Journal Asia ranks it number one in quality and service, and it ranked first in the IT Hardware category of the 2008 Taiwan Top 10 Global Brands survey with a total brand value of US$1.324 billion.
Asus has a primary listing on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE: 2357) and a secondary listing on the London Stock Exchange (LSE: ASKD).
The name Asus originates from Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology. Only the last four letters of the word were used in order to give the name a high position in alphabetical listings.
A republic is a form of government in which the government is officially apportioned to the control of the people and thus a "public matter" (Latin: res publica) and where offices of state are subsequently directly or indirectly elected or appointed. In modern times, a common simplified definition of a republic is a government where the head of state is not a monarch. The word republic is derived from the Latin phrase res publica, which can be translated as "the public affair", and often used to describe a state using this form of government.
Both modern and ancient republics vary widely in their ideology and composition. In classical and medieval times the archetype of all republics was the Roman Republic, which referred to Rome in between the period when it had kings, and the periods when it had emperors. The Italian medieval and Renaissance political tradition today referred to as "civic humanism" is sometimes considered to derive directly from Roman republicans such as Sallust and Tacitus. However, Greek-influenced Roman authors, such as Polybius and Cicero, sometimes also used the term as a translation for the Greek politeia which could mean regime generally, but could also be applied to certain specific types of regime which did not exactly correspond to that of the Roman Republic. An example of this is Sparta, which had two kings but was not considered a normal monarchy as it also had ephors representing the common people. Republics were not equated with classical democracies such as Athens, but had a democratic aspect.
Historically, the term "gamer" usually referred to someone who played role-playing games and wargames. Since they became very popular, the term has included players of video games. While the term nominally includes those who do not necessarily consider themselves to be gamers (i.e., casual gamers), it is commonly used to identify those who spend much of their leisure time playing or learning about games.
There are many gamer communities around the world. Many of these take the form of discussion forums and other virtual communities, as well as college or university social clubs. Stores specializing in games often serve as a meeting place to organize groups of players[citation needed]. Prior to the emergence of the Internet, many play-by-mail games developed communities resembling those surrounding today's online games[citation needed].
In October 2006, the Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA) was established as the first non-profit membership organization formed to represent American computer and video game consumers. The ECA was formed, in part, in response to the seemingly imbalanced representation of the games industry (e.g., the ESA, IGDA and others) in comparison to game consumers in the United States Congress.
Beyond and once again, you know how this is gonna end
the same way it always seems to do
Don't yet know how to deal with what is obviously true
we are better than you
We are all equals here
and we fight for dominion tonight
We don't ask color, race or creed,
dedicated, free-for-all
Passed through my line of sight
You are the one that caught my eye
I'm coming for you right now
Yeah you can try to hide
How many levels can you up
before I track you down and make you die?
We'll light a fire under you
drop some tunes and just YouTube the sight
But we are all on common ground
