More than 100 New Zealand Defence Force personnel were deployed in late April alongside the Australian Defence Force to train Iraqi Security Forces so they can better counter the threat posed by ISIL (Dash) and deter its further advances. Task Group Taji, which is composed of New Zealand and Australian personnel, has trained 2100 Iraqi soldiers to date. The training covers weapons handling, combat first aid, live fire training and drills in complex warfighting environments (urban assault, counter-improvised explosive device, etc.)

Approximately 182 New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) personnel will be deployed on operations around the world over the Christmas period this year. While Christmas will be a normal working day on operations, the deployed Kiwis will be able to mark the occasion, with some planning a traditional Christmas lunch and others a customary game of backyard cricket or rugby. Personnel in Antarctica, Korea, and parts of the Middle East may even experience a white Christmas.
The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has airlifted a 2.4-tonne shipping container to volcanic White Island near Whakatane, to provide visitors an emergency shelter in case of an eruption. The island is 50 km off from the nearest shore and the container was placed on an old mining site to provide a natural protective barrier during an event of an eruption.

New Zealand Defence Force personnel perform a haka to the fallen at the service to mark the centenary of the Battle for Chunk Bair on 8 August 2015. This was the first haka performed as part of an official commemoration by New Zealand forces on the Gallipoli Peninsula in nearly 100 years. The haka was performed to honour all those who fell during the Battle for Chunuk Bair from 6-10 August 1915. The New Zealand Defence Force wished to acknowledge the generosity of the Turkish authorities in allowing the haka to be performed. The haka performed is the New Zealand Defence Force haka, He Tauā. Military police are investigating how unedited footage showing New Zealand soldiers in a fatal Afghan firefight was leaked on to the internet. The expletive-laden footage, taken on a helmet-mounted camera and lasting for more than 10 minutes, shows the incident at Baghak in August last year where Lance Corporals Rory Malone and Pralli Durrer were killed. It was released on to YouTube last week and differs vastly from a sanitised version released some months ago by the New Zealand Defence Force. A defence force spokesman said the footage showed the intensity of the situation during the Baghak incident. "The action that took place on 4 August was a very complex, chaotic and intense firefight. It is the most complex firefight NZ Defence Force personnel have been involved in since Vie...
Remembering eye brushes no obstacle
You feel nothing, nothing touches you
Nothing, nothing coming through
Disrupt this transmission
Blood money transfusion
Nor is that conclusion really true
You sell up your stocks and buy out your bonds
You're down to your socks and you're waving your wand
But it sure aint magic I guess you aint a real blonde
I wanted this to be
Something really fine
Starlight into mystery
Clock provides the time
Your canopy snaps and your engine is gone
Your altitude drops and you've lost all your guns
Your flying days are surely nearly done
Your goose is cooked and there's too many chiefs
Spoiling the rot that the Indians eat
Can I have some more, just leave off that meat
You fall from a dream into your bed and scream
You fall from a scream into your bed and dream
Wreckage from another crash
Litter under camouflage
Wreckage from another crash
