Stephen or Steven /ˈstiːvən/ is a masculine first name, derived from the Greek name Στέφανος (Stéfanos), in turn from the Greek word "στέφανος", meaning "wreath, crown, honour, reward", literally "that which surrounds or encompasses". In ancient Greece, a wreath was given to the winner of a contest (from which the crown, symbol of rulers derived). The use of the noun was first recorded in Homer's Iliad. The name is significant to Christians: according to the Book of Acts in the New Testament, Saint Stephen was a deacon who was stoned to death and is regarded as the first Christian martyr. The name has many variants, which include Stephan, Stevan, Stefan and Stevon.
In Middle English, the name Stephen or Stephan was pronounced as a bi-syllabic word — Step-hen or Step-han — much like a Scandinavian surname. Steve was pronounced as it is in Modern English. This etymological usage began a decline in the mid-19th century.
Steve is the common short form, while various diminutives such as Stevie and Ste are also used. Many family names are derived from Stephen: the most common are Stephens/Stevens and Stephenson/Stevenson (others include Stephen, Stephan, Staphan, Stefan, Stevin and Stever).
Theodore Edmond "Teddy" Bridgewater II (born November 10, 1992) is an American football quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Vikings in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Louisville.
Bridgewater was born on November 10, 1992 in Miami, Florida, the son of Rose Murphy. He attended Miami Northwestern High School. In his sophomore year, he replaced Jacory Harris as starting quarterback and took over a team that had been named the 2007 national champions by USA Today. He completed 97 of 160 attempts (60.6 percent) for 1,560 yards over the season, throwing 16 touchdowns with three interceptions. He also carried 45 times for 211 yards (4.7 average) and two more scores. Northwestern finished the season 13–3, falling short to Seminole High School of Sanford 28–21 in the 6A state title game.
In his junior year, Bridgewater passed for 2,546 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushed for 379 yards and five more scores. In a late-September game against Hialeah-Miami Lakes High School, he completed 19 of 24 passes for 327 yards and a Dade County record of seven touchdowns. He was named second team All-State for 6A classification and first team All-County by the Miami Herald. Northwestern finished the season 10–2, after a 29–16 loss to rival Miami Central High School.

The BBC's Rough Justice programme was an occasional series investigating questionable criminal convictions. In 1996 it turned its attention to the murder of Carl Bridgewater in September 1978, for which Patrick Molloy, James Robinson and cousins Michael Hickey and Vincent Hickey had been convicted. Rough Justice was far from the first investigation of the case; Paul Foot's book 'Murder at the Farm' was published in 1986. However this examination did lead on to a second appeal and the three surviving members of the Bridgewater Four were freed on bail in February 1997. Their convictions were overturned on 30 July 1997. TX for this programme is 10.4.96. Note that Michael Hickey in the reconstructions is an early role for Jonny Lee Miller.

Sep.17 -- Ray Dalio says it took more than great returns to turn Bridgewater Associates into the world's largest hedge fund. It took principles -- prescriptive rules for life and business that Dalio established over four decades. The principles are what make Bridgewater unique, and unusual. Now Dalio has published them in a book, along with his life story. Bloomberg's Erik Schatzker sat down with Ray Dalio at Bridgewater's campus in Westport Connecticut to review those principles.
