Piano pedagogy is the study of the teaching of piano playing. Whereas the professional field of music education pertains to the teaching of music in school classrooms or group settings, piano pedagogy focuses on the teaching of musical skills to individual piano students. This is often done via private or semiprivate instructions, commonly referred to as piano lessons. The practitioners of piano pedagogy are called piano pedagogues, or simply, piano teachers.
The range of professionalism among teachers of piano is undoubtedly wide. "Competent instruction is not always assured by the number of years one has taken lessons", warned piano pedagogue and writer of numerous pedagogical books, James Bastien. The factors which affect the professional quality of a piano teacher include one's competence in musical performance, knowledge of musical genres, music history and theory, piano repertoire, experience in teaching, ability to adapt one's teaching method to students of different personalities and learning styles, education level, and so on.
Lesson 1 is the debut studio album of the Japanese super girl group E-girls. It was released on April 17, 2013 in two different editions.
The album was announced on February 26, via the group and LDH official websites. It was revealed the album prices and some details about the editions, being released in two editions: limited with a DVD and a regular CD only. In March 18, jacket covers and tracklist were revealed, the CD including fourteen tracks and DVD including all music videos released up to date and a bonus live video from EXILE's "EXILE Live Tour 2011 Tower of Wish ~Negai no Tou~". The album was also put in pre-order in Japan's iTunes Store, including an acoustic version of the song "Love Letter" as a special pre-order track only. The first press of the CD+DVD edition includes a 64-page photobook. First presses of both editions feature a special packaging and include a card with a serial code which give access to a free wallpaper download though their official website. If codes of the album and their previous release, "Candy Smile", are entered, the page also offers the download for an unreleased song.
The Piano Lesson is a 1990 play by American playwright August Wilson. It is the fourth play in Wilson's The Pittsburgh Cycle. Wilson began writing this play by playing with the various answers regarding the possibility of "acquir[ing] a sense of self-worth by denying one's past".The Piano Lesson received the 1990 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
A Romare Bearden painting, The Piano Lesson, inspired Wilson to write a play featuring a strong female character to confront African-American history, paralleling Troy in earlier Fences. However, on finishing his play, Wilson found the ending to stray from the empowered female character as well as from the question regarding self-worth. What The Piano Lesson finally seems to ask is: "What do you do with your legacy, and how do you best put it to use?"
Set in 1936 Pittsburgh during the aftermath of the Great Depression, The Piano Lesson follows the lives of the Charles family in the Doaker Charles household and an heirloom, the family piano. The play focuses on the arguments between a brother and a sister who have different ideas on what to do with the piano. The brother, Boy Willie, is a sharecropper who wants to sell the piano to buy the land (Sutter's land) where his ancestors toiled as slaves. The sister, Berniece, remains emphatic about keeping the piano, which shows the carved faces of their great-grandfather's wife and son during the days of their enslavement.
The piano (Italian pronunciation: [ˈpjaːno]; an abbreviation of pianoforte [pjanoˈfɔrte]) is a musical instrument played using a keyboard. It is widely employed in classical, jazz, traditional and popular music for solo and ensemble performances, accompaniment, and for composing and rehearsal. Although the piano is not portable and often expensive, its versatility and ubiquity have made it one of the world's most familiar musical instruments.
An acoustic piano usually has a protective wooden case surrounding the soundboard and metal strings, and a row of 88 black and white keys (52 white, 36 black). The strings are sounded when the keys are pressed, and silenced when the keys are released. The note can be sustained, even when the keys are released, by the use of pedals.
Pressing a key on the piano's keyboard causes a padded (often with felt) hammer to strike strings. The hammer rebounds, and the strings continue to vibrate at their resonant frequency. These vibrations are transmitted through a bridge to a soundboard that amplifies by more efficiently coupling the acoustic energy to the air. When the key is released, a damper stops the strings' vibration, ending the sound. Although an acoustic piano has strings, it is usually classified as a percussion instrument because the strings are struck rather than plucked (as with a harpsichord or spinet); in the Hornbostel-Sachs system of instrument classification, pianos are considered chordophones. With technological advances, electric, electronic, and digital pianos have also been developed.
A lesson is a structured period of time where learning is intended to occur. It involves one or more students (also called pupils or learners in some circumstances) being taught by a teacher or instructor. A lesson may be either one section of a textbook (which, apart from the printed page, can also include multimedia) or, more frequently, a short period of time during which learners are taught about a particular subject or taught how to perform a particular activity. Lessons are generally taught in a classroom but may instead take place in a situated learning environment.
In a wider sense, a lesson is an insight gained by a learner into previously unfamiliar subject-matter. Such a lesson can be either planned or accidental, enjoyable or painful. The colloquial phrase "to teach someone a lesson", means to punish or scold a person for a mistake they have made in order to ensure that they do not make the same mistake again.
Lessons can also be made entertaining. When the term education is combined with entertainment, the term edutainment is coined.

In this piano lesson I talk about chords. When I started this channel in 2006, I decided NOT to teach song tutorials, since there was no viable way for me to teach every possible piece by myself and still be sane. My approach to this channel is to teach you the skills and concepts of piano so you can grow as a musician and learn any piece you wish. But both you and I know that the main reason we put so much hard work into learning the concepts of piano is so that we can play pieces for ourselves and possibly others. Not being able to teach concepts AND pieces to you guys always bothered me… I wanted a way to offer a good solution to learning pieces online in an interactive way. In 2014, I met some guys from Berlin, Germany who founded a piano learning company called 'Flowkey', and when t...

UPDATE: Hello, this is Present Day Michael. I would like to point out that Past Michael chose his words poorly when he said "this chord doesn't work", and that statement has led to much anger and confusion throughout the eons (well since 2011 anyway). What he SHOULD have said was "by moving notes closer together than a minor third or farther apart than a major third, you're creating an entirely new chord that you're almost definitely not expecting, and you should watch this video https://youtu.be/Nr2XBoanNJY to understand the crazy nonsense that's happening here." The great thing about improvised YouTube videos that unexpectedly become popular is that you can never change a single thing about them ever. Present Day Michael apologizes profusely for Past Michael's mistakes. END OF TIME-WARP...

In this piano harmony tutorial we will delve into some intermediate to advanced concepts by analyzing a short (~2 minute) piece I wrote specifically for this purpose. I will first play the piece and then we will discuss the progressions, chords, voicings and general choices I made while writing and performing the piece. I hope you find this useful and add something to your repertoire! The focus here is on more intermediate / advanced piano playing concepts. By playing an entire piece you should be able to see how different concepts from harmony, voicings, chord progressions etc fuse together into a meaningful composition. Note: the video mentions another video about inverted pedal notes. Here are two! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S75Nfcb1UYE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gZG6nO9m8U...

Part 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpcMNpibhSk In this video, our three focus points are: Broken Chords (taking the triad and playing the individual notes), Staccato and Legato articulations (S: playing one note after the other without blending it with the next/L: blending the notes together) and Rhythm in Practice (using the above to invent your own practice routines and free your fingers, discover your own style and develop keyboard awareness). I remember piano lessons
The hours in freezing rooms
Cruel ears and tiny hands
Destroying timeless tunes
She said there's too much out there
Too much already said
You'd better give up hoping
You're better off in bed
You don't need much to speak of
No class, no wit, no soul
Forget you own agenda
Get ready to be sold
I feel now like Christine Keeler
Sleepwaking in the rain
I didn't mean to lose direction
I didn't want that kind of fame
(Take your hands off my land)
Credit me with some intelligence
(if not just credit me)
I come in value packs of ten
(in five varieties)
And even though I got it all now
My only stupid dream
I see you and me together
And how it should have been
I remember piano lessons
Now everything seems clear
You waiting under streetlights
