In his late teens, London rapper Dizzee Rascal was involved in a life-threatening situation while visiting a resort in Cyprus. On his first night there, Dizzee got into a scuffle, and on the second night he was stabbed six times all over his body. "It's mad, but it's still going fast at the same time - it's weird." When he got to the hospital, Dizzee Rascal learned he was nearly killed while people from the opposing crew sat around him. When Dylan Mills released his debut album as Dizzee Rascal in 2003 he put London's newest sound, grime, on the global map. Fashioned from his experiences as an amateur pirate radio DJ and MC as well as his fascination with Three 6 Mafia, drum & bass and heavy metal, Boy in da Corner captured the raw energy and determination of a teenager who had found salvation in music. A critical and commercial success, the album earned Mills three top 30 hits and the Mercury Prize at age 19. It also put him on the road to becoming the first legitimate pop star to emerge from the grime scene, with more albums, worldwide tours and a performance at the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. Growing up in East London, Dizzee Rascal, recollects his nomad-like upbringing in government housing before settling down in the Bow district. Similar to some Americans raised in section 8 housing, drugs and violence were a common occurrence. He tells DJ Vlad, "There's a real gun culture in the U.K., just for those who don't know." He explained, "It's very raw." Although not all U.K. police carry firearms compared to the United States police force, the 31-year-old rapper clarified that there's also a limited amount of guns obtained by English citizens because the right to bear arms is not a staple in their culture due to some unfortunate incidents. He said, "They're not as gun crazy there in general because it's not apart of that—you guys have it apart of the Amendment, so it's looked down...

Too much hiding behind shadows
Too much crying through the night
Many people move around you
Like a moth around the light
I can feel you I can see your face
All through the night
Chorus: Sorry sorry I tried so hard to say Sorry sorry I
don't know what to do But watch you walk away
Many footsteps, many windows
On the verge of a million doors
Close reflections in the mirror
Fading traces on the floor I can feel you I can see your
face
All through the night
Chorus Too much hiding behind shadows Too much crying
