In the mid-80's, she was still not talking about her personal relationship with fellow actor
Spencer Tracy, so when
James delves deeper into the topic, without missing a beat Hepburn warns him off mid-sentence. She is just as tight-lipped about her relationship with
Howard Hughes but offers a perspective why he ended up like he did.
And I don't know which bridge she flew a plane off of in
NYC, but I wish she'd talked more about the stunts she and Hughes did
The only cringe-worthy moment is when she is talking about her older brother',
Tom's, suicide. It was Hepburn who found the body hanging from a rope, and she tried to hoist on her shoulders to relieve the tension of the rope. Her explanation here is what her father at the time said to a
Hartford newspaper. She seems to be referring to
Black men in general being able to hang themselves without the noose slipping, but according to biographies her father played football in the
South with *a* particular
Black man who could do this, and for some reason, he reasoned that his son was trying to imitate this feat and erred rather than trying to commit suicide.
