Father Brian Evan Anthony Davies, OP (born 1951) is Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, Fordham University (since 1995), and author of An Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion, now in its third English edition, which has been translated into five languages.

Education

Brian Davies studied Theology at the University of Bristol (BA 1972) and undertook graduate studies at King's College London (M.Th, 1973; Tutorial Assistant, 1974–6; Ph.D, 1976).

Teaching

He spent the period 1982–95 at the University of Oxford. Throughout those years he was Lecturer in Theology and Philosophy at Blackfriars, Oxford. Davies was also Tutor in Theology, St Benet's Hall and a member of the Faculty of Theology (1983–95); Regent of Studies of the English Dominican Province (1988–95); University Research Lecturer (1993–95); and member of the Sub-Faculty of Philosophy (1994–95).

In 1994 Davies was appointed Regent of Blackfriars and, as a Head of House, received the degree of Master of Arts by Special Decree by the University of Oxford. In 1995 he took up his current appointment at Fordham University. He held Visiting Professorships at the Beda College, Rome (Spring 1987 and Spring 1988), Fordham University (July-August 1987, July-August 1988, and Fall 1994), and Candler School of Theology, Emory University (Spring 1993).

Brian Davies (rugby league)

Brian Davies (16 May 1930 – 14 November 2012) was a Queensland state and Australian national representative rugby league footballer of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. He played in 27 Tests between 1951 and 1958 as captain on 3 occasions. He played at both Prop forward and as a Second rower and was a noted goal-kicker. His club career was played in both the Brisbane and Sydney domestic competitions.He is considered one of the nation's finest footballers of the 20th century.

Club career

Davies was born in Brisbane, Queensland, and did not begin playing rugby league until he was eighteen. He was recruited purely on the basis of his size by Brisbane Brothers identity Bert Fraser to trial with Brothers in 1948. He became a regular first grader in 1950. He won a Brisbane premiership with Brothers in 1956 and captained the side to a second premiership in 1958.

In 1959 he moved to Sydney and signed on as captain with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs where he played four seasons. He returned to Queensland in 1963 as captain-coach of the St. George district side in 1963 and his final playing year in 1964 as captain-coach was back with the Brisbane Brothers club where his career had started.
