FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Prosecutors say a police officer was justified when he shot at a man who was wielding a sword during a disturbance at a Fort Collins apartment complex.

The Coloradoan reports (http://goo.gl/iWLkfK ) that the district attorney's office determined the officer was in a "worst case scenario" when he responded to reports of yelling, banging and loud music coming from a unit in the Village Gardens Apartments on March 29.

The officer said he feared for his life when he encountered 35-year-old Mark Bade, who stood with a sword at waist height in a thrusting position. Bade tried to slam the door, and the officer fired a single shot that passed through the steel apartment door at an angle, hit a television and became lodged in the apartment wall.

Bade then dropped the sword and was taken into custody unharmed.
